I found FLV Player to play FLV files, but it requires Adobe Air. Do you guys install Adobe Air? Also, what other good players play FLV?

HI guys,

I'm looking for apps that can keep personal data such as password, bank details and so on that come with password security. Any recommendation?
*
I use Catch. Can set up PIN prompt upon startup. Can store notes, photos, etc. Synchronises with server so you can edit on your PC browser as well. Very good note taker.

How do you clear an app from the Market list of downloaded apps? I downloaded some of them to some phones, then the phones are factory-resetted / given / sold to other people. The list of phones and apps remain. Very annoying.

There's a new Market version out. Now got more categories like Trending Apps (interesting!), Top Free, Top New Free, Top Grossing, etc.

I can't decide between waiting for the next gen Iphone or just get the many android phones out there now.Ā

One major factor is the apps.Ā  I believe there are more apps for the iphone than android phones...is that true?

Anyone knows if there are good (and preferably free) android apps for offline maps and offline language translators?Ā  I wish to travel without paying for roaming charges.
*
I guess you don't need a phone urgently if you can ask about the iPhone5. If you can wait, wait for it. If it's released end of this year, we should be getting it next year tongue.gif

There are some analysts who say Android apps will overtake iOS apps (in fact, in July). But Android apps quality is relatively lower than iOS version (eg. Facebook, eBay), and some apps and games are released on iOS first before ported over to Android if there's demand. Of course, there are some Android apps that will never be available on iOS because of the closed nature of the system (widgets, automation, etc).

If apps are your #1 priority, wait for iPhone5 or buy iPhone4 now laugh.gif

Offline worldwide maps - not sure.
Offline dictionaries: ColorDict. Can install languages you desire like German English, Japanese English, English Chinese, etc.

Well...I don't need a phone urgently but I have travel plans in October and having a smartphone (leeching on free wifi) is definitely a good travel companion.

I read an article about a year ago regarding an iphone app that allows you to take pictures of a sign/text in foreign language and convert it to english.  I wish there's something like that for Android.

Hence now I'm debating whether to just give in and get an Android by October or forego travelling with a smartphone and get the iPhone next year.  rclxub.gif
Hehe..good to know, I love free goods!

Hey, check out Google Goggles. It's like Google search but you're now searching with pictures. It can translate text too! But requires data connection tongue.gif

Yes, Android has 50% free apps. iOS has 25% free apps.

QUOTE(mydragoon @ Jul 15 2011, 01:59 PM)
just curious... since this is Android section, assumption i make is that most are Android users and indirectly, should be Google users.

so, essentially, we are ok with leaving our data with Google. they are big and so far they have done no major wrongs.

data = contacts, emails, credit card details, etc... the full range of Google services and products.

however, how does one feel about other company handling your data?

companies like... Facebook, Twitter whatsapps, tango, etc... From what I understand with companies/ apps like whatsapp, they will use their server to send the messages between your contacts. potentially, they could be keeping a copy of your messages. are you guys comfortable with that?

for me... i'm not really into FB. never liked how they handle our privacy -- heck, i feel they totally want to disregard our privacy.

i've yet to install whatsapp mainly because i dun like to have another party handling my data/ communication. since i already 'trust' Google, prefer to use Gtalk, etc... However, most of my contacts (iphone users especially) is not on it...

so dilemma for me... what about you guys?
*
I use FB for fun. It's a great way to catch up on friends whom I don't contact as much as I want to. I don't upload pics, but friends/family upload them and tag me (I can't stop them). Certain details have to be accurate and real so old friends can find me (name, etc).

Google - they read my email and target me with personalised ads, know my appointments via Calendar, what I have on my phone via Market, etc. But I don't really care. I'm just 1 tiny dot in the sea of millions of their users.

Whatsapp - they can know my entire phonebook and my conversation with all of my contacts. This feels a bit scarier to me, so I've never had the urge to install Whatsapp. Having less control than conventional IM makes me feel insecure.

Nowadays corporations can easily identify us as individuals, knowing where we live, what we bought, what we like, how we look like, who our family members and friends are (and details about them like above), where we work, how much we earn, etc. Scary, isn't it?

Played, first Android game I ever took the effort to finish. Now building up my 2nd team. It's easier now since I've got the uber items. Now just keep killing stone golem to level up laugh.gif

No other game interested me as much. Cut the Rope seems intriguing. Or maybe play Slice It.

is it really good? i dread spending more money on games. i bought samurai 2 after so many ppl said its good... after playing it... realised its not sth i like. i like games like Ultima 4 & Ultima 5 (PC days). Pocket Legends, Zenonia and Inotia is nice too. Final Fantasy 7 is also another game I like. is  battlehearts similar to these games. looks like it is...

i'm using Dolphin HD.
*
I detest console-type RPGs because they are long-winded and I hate the party micro-management. I also don't play many action or RPG games on phones. But Battleheart is something different, it's easy to get into, is not too difficult, does not punish the player, and everything is very polished. It's the only mobile game I have ever been almost addicted to. It's nothing like Ultima or FF series, because everything is simplified for the casual player. There is no story. It's just levelling and getting better loot... and it does so excellently and cutely. Frankly, I think it's not your cup of tea laugh.gif

I use Dolphin Mini.

I'm looking for a screenshot app which can take scrolling screens. I want to screenshot 1 entire SMS conversation. Which app can do this? Thanks.

QUOTE(mydragoon @ Jul 27 2011, 11:34 AM)
ya, dun look like it'll be my cuppa tea... i wanna be able to like grow my character, assign attributes, etc... if its just attack, collect loot, upgrade, attack, collect loot, upgrade... i call this the diablo-type of game. something like samurai 2.

thanks anyway for the feedback... saved me from having wasted some $$$. smile.gif
*
Yeah, only 2 attributes here, attack and defense. As for me, tried Inotia3 and Zenonia3... uninstalled after 5 minutes tongue.gif

1st team - Knight, Barbarian, Wizard, Bard. Loved the Wizard and Bard. Knight and Barbarian could probably be replaced by Monk and Rogue, they're much cooler.

I want to ask something, why people still using file manager apps although there are already "MyFiles".
I'm curious and just asking.

Not every phone has MyFiles. Also, other file managers can do things like rename file extension, view hidden files, mount system as read/write, change file permissions, etc.

Ever had the ringtone volume accidentally changed accidentally because you inintentionally pressed the volume rocker? Introducing Volume Control +. It allows you to set the individual volumes, and lock it in place.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.c...umePlus&feature

You can choose to lock any volume you want. Like for me I lock the ringtone and notification volume. This respects the ringer mode, like if you put silent mode, the ringtone and notification will be silenced as well. BTW you can also lock the ringer mode, in case you do not want to accidentally change the ringer mode.

Auto launches on boot too!
