Jeez why is everyone fighting over who started what first.

New XCOM is just what the old fans ordered and waited for the last 15 years. And seem to be delivering the goods. Hope new XCOM can convince newer gamers to play the original which is still re-playable until now.

Playing this new XCOM using a gamepad looks pretty good actually. Makes more sense with the UI compared to kb/m.

About VC, the second and third game are less scripted. Lots of random missions you can take.

Like how VC to you felt like a puzzle based (which is silly IMO), XCOM is more of a luck based.
Ppl have been saying how they've missed a shotgun in point blank range in XCOM. Seriously?

tl;dr
this new XCOM shared a similarity with VC. Just like how XCOM shares a similarity with Fire Emblems (perma-death in particular), FFT, Jean d'Arc, etc...They're all in the same genre.
I don't see anything wrong with it. rclxub.gif

that's only if you truly sucks in tactics and strategy
and your most "brilliant' tactic is concentrate fire on every thing that hates you.
let's say that even if the RNG gods hate you, you still can win with good battlefield tactics with no casualty.
speaking as a person playing on classic difficulty now.

also, rockets are fun. biggrin.gif

I see a brother with similiar thinking here

rookie = $40 000
high explosive = $1,500

alien equipment = $ 100,000-300,000

profit margin = (count yourself tongue.gif )

I love russian tactics of sending rookies arming with primed explosives rushing towards any alien they see.
make every map looks like hell in two or three turn.

Just need one guy with that to bash walls. others just MC guy and use the alien's guns and ammo tongue.gif

Added on October 11, 2012, 3:49 pmMost likely I still play the original. The newer games lack that charm and the brutality that forces you to learn things the hard way.

Yes, playing too many games increase expectations but we all know that tongue.gif

The new XCOM seemed to be a blend of Company of Heroes' cover system with some of the older XCOM features like permanent death, 2 layers of strategy and research tree. Along with some of the unnecessary complexity removed which is kinda sad.

I dont see whats wrong with it or any similarities with other turn based games. It is like saying Battlefield is the same as CoD, while the fact is, both game's mechanics are very very different.

Man I shouldn't have viewed so many playthroughs while waiting for the game to unlock. Seems like spoiling all the surprises for me. Going to stop watching YouTube until MY game unlocks. sweat.gif

Unfortunately, i have used the key to preload the game.

I might get a copy of Special Edition and sell the key away.

Nvm then. Seems that plenty of sellers in garage sale still have the copy with pre-order DLC.
