QUOTE(Skidd Chung @ Sep 27 2012, 02:10 AM) JA2 was fantastic because it got the management, strategy and tactical details. Also the voiceovers and acting are far, far better compared to what is shown in the XCOM demo. you canNew XCOM is much more simple but polished. I realised you can't switch weapons while in game (unless its a skill), no inventory, no limb/specific injury, no different ammo types etc. If you ever played S2 Silent Storm, that was also a fantastic tactical game, not much on management. Graphics and destructability was superb. If it was upgraded to JA2 style with same physic engine and added JA2 voice-overs it would be pure awesome. you have two weapons usually only snipers need to switch weapons to go overwatch with their pistols instead with their sniper rifles. there are no cost involved. They are basically zerglings with the similar tactics to make the game "difficult". That's why some part of the game is simply ridiculous. Also their characters don't have much of a personality too. QUOTE(Skidd Chung @ Sep 27 2012, 01:09 PM) Yup tested the pistol already. What I think Firaxis is trying is limiting the number of ways players can abuse or stress the game engine they are building on top off.I meant more on multiple weapons. But it could be because its a demo, there is no way to equip other weapons other than the standard rifle and pistol. And only 1 grenade probably for balance. Simplified the inventory I guess. Simpler design helps to make more harder decisions obvious later on. Also important, it help players to understand faster what they can do and their options faster than 100-pages manual will do. More importantly for modders, its helps them to learn the system/engine faster which make modding of anything sort easier |

QUOTE(Skidd Chung @ Sep 27 2012, 01:31 PM) I thought the lead designer said no modding tools will be provided. I hope mod community will still try. And whats this about only 1 base for the whole game? Is it true? the first mod already came out,Will miss the high explosives dearly. Update: Restarting the demo in classic mode. it allows you to change the type of aliens on the second mission, the type of weapons you have (human, laser, plasma) and the difficulty the mission is on in a single screen. the developers don't need to make an actual modding tool available for now. While modding tools are helpful, their simple and good coding practices helps modders to figure out everything extremely fast |

QUOTE(yuhhaur @ Oct 9 2012, 05:00 PM) Meh, Like I didn't mourning the superhuman difficulty back in the original titles. Lol in this xcom, if you play in classic difficulty, you will need two boxes of lube.Losing is fun... Added on October 9, 2012, 5:01 pmLosing with minimal casualties is knowledge Not losing is the essence of the tactical gameplay. Just now, I play 4 hours of xcom eu. Quite nice. Economics now more important now. you WILL RUN OUT OF CASH VERY FAST. If you are not, you are playing it in baby's mode. NO more russian rookies with grenade tactics anymore. every soldier is important. add to the fact that soldiers cost moolah, you will run out of fresh bodies fast . I play only until third month, almost lost France and Nigeria. Important tip, manage every single credit like it's your real saving account. Make every purchase count. DO NOT BUY SURPLUS ARMOR/GUNS/FACILITY. You will regret fast fast. Officer school is very very important. Buy only squad and hospital upgrade there. These tips applicable only for classic mode. Cause there's no way to lose in easy mode. The developers practically guarantee God mode for your last soldier every single battle. Added on October 10, 2012, 2:16 amOh yeah, additional note: DO NOT INVADE ALIEN BASE UNTIL YOU WANT TO END THE GAME ALREADY Make sure all six are taichou level and above. My squad kena rogol puas puas by the 3 3-crysallid patrols in that base. Also f*** cryssalid , they are damn dangerous and fast. Oh yeah if you don't like the squaddie upgrade from rookie, remember to save before you complete every mission. rookie upgrade to different classes only happens once you are back in the base. QUOTE(kuman @ Oct 10 2012, 09:14 AM) like the old XCOM.. i think we can have multiple alien base and we can attack at anytime.. since the last mission is in Cydonia... not exactly based on what I read in the internet.so in this XCOM the final mission will be this single Alien Base? hmmm this.. i was hoping to drag the game as long as i could before going to the final base and go on the alien base raid run before the final misson, i guess that wouldnt be the case la for this time around... no worry will play it and see.. thanks for the tips.. but if you rushed into the base early in your gameplay with minimal firepower, armor and experienced troops, you will get raped in the base. Very very hard. imagine going against crysallid in the original xcom with 14 troops with still beginning earth weapons. now, imagine 6 troops going against 3 crysalllid appearing suddenly imagine due to game mechanics, they get instant free one movement to get near your troops when you both meet. remember you get only one action and one move per turn for each soldier. in short, prepare lots of lube |

QUOTE(ray148 @ Oct 11 2012, 02:42 PM) Playing this new XCOM using a gamepad looks pretty good actually. Makes more sense with the UI compared to kb/m. that's only if you truly sucks in tactics and strategyAbout VC, the second and third game are less scripted. Lots of random missions you can take. Like how VC to you felt like a puzzle based (which is silly IMO), XCOM is more of a luck based. Ppl have been saying how they've missed a shotgun in point blank range in XCOM. Seriously? tl;dr this new XCOM shared a similarity with VC. Just like how XCOM shares a similarity with Fire Emblems (perma-death in particular), FFT, Jean d'Arc, etc...They're all in the same genre. I don't see anything wrong with it. and your most "brilliant' tactic is concentrate fire on every thing that hates you. let's say that even if the RNG gods hate you, you still can win with good battlefield tactics with no casualty. speaking as a person playing on classic difficulty now. also, rockets are fun. |

QUOTE(Instant_noodle @ Oct 11 2012, 03:09 PM) you forgot to mention about cannon fodders!!! lotsa cannon fodders!!! civillians cannon fodders!!! low status troops as cannon fodders!!! cannon fodders everywhere!!! I see a brother with similiar thinking hereMOAR CANNON FODDERS!!! rookie = $40 000 high explosive = $1,500 alien equipment = $ 100,000-300,000 profit margin = (count yourself I love russian tactics of sending rookies arming with primed explosives rushing towards any alien they see. make every map looks like hell in two or three turn. |

QUOTE(ChaosXP @ Oct 11 2012, 09:43 PM) Nah no need to collect it. All will be collected at the end of the mission. I believe at impossible you'll need to "stun em all". I disagree with you Minor Gripes (Regarding the game and not the storyline) : » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Thats what I found out so far. Must have more female customization i bet RM50 with you that boob bouncing female models going to be among the first mods that going to come out within the next two months. that and a keyboard hack to allow you to zoom closely into your base as console players can |

Finally beat the game on classic difficulty
Did not lose any nations But dead soldiers like telephone book lol cuz don't save often during missions. nice. will try again once more modding tools come online. gooding ending too. don't know why they don't like it. here an general tip smoke grenade are very important part of the support class. use them when you take on more than three foes. I figure that out only after I find out enemy just give up attacking you and retreat if all of your front-liners are in the smoke coverage |

QUOTE(bobohead1988 @ Oct 17 2012, 07:29 AM) The game doesnt wait for you ahh i remember this onealso fought chrysalids on classic, was nervous as f*** remembering old times then after the battle i felt it was dumbed down chrysalids ( the part where if you kill a zombie another one emerges unless you kill it with fire, how fast a new chrysalid emerged from the zombie, even with laser weapon they go down very fast with minimal effort) ![]() good times were had veteran level terror missions from the month may can only be accomplished with at least 6 spotters rookies carrying primed high explosives. |

QUOTE(ifourtos @ Oct 17 2012, 04:41 PM) You proved to have a are far too less creative mind. Like I said, when you talk about lack of creativity, I think you should look at a mirror sometime.Sniper = Must use only Sniper Gun, end of story? can it be option like, high critical less dmg type, 2 hit type, element type, ultra-powerful but much less magazine type........ The current choice : Plasma Sniper, Laser Sniper, Sniper. ( same type only better in dmg ) We can bring robo-vehicle (forgot the name), we can bring laser weapon, we can bring more squad, etc... Wrong. DO ANY 1 here can bring less than 6 people for the rest of the game? Except you playing Easy/Normal. 6 is a must. Not a choice. lol, obviously you are the one that are not creative let me put it this way Hover SHIV is incredibly good and in the end game, it's one of the most versatile unit in your squad. usually you use SHIVs when one of your high rankers are out of comission, which in classic ironman, happens quite a lot. Your imagination is quite limited. I need Real Choices. There might me choice to upgrade in research to allow either more squad OR super solider path. So, a different play through give you totally different experience better weapon hit harder, better armor live longer. Isn't that normal? If you don't have better weapon (like earlier of the game where aliens are more tech advance) you will need to be more defensive instead of rush rush rush. Tell me when you can kill a tank with the outdated phalanx in Civ5 In Turn Base Tactic, Better DMG/HP is usual. How about we can add in more element like : Mobility, Stealthy.... There is no tank tactic in this game. There is almost to none we can upgrade the mobility of our squad Stealthy = Ghost Armor? thats all? There is mobility, its called defense. what else do mobility present? movement? If that's so, there's sprinter, skeleton suit and ghost suit. there is tank tactic, although you are foolish to attempt it against alien higher hit and crit chance on classic and impossible. Battle Tactic = Only 1. Flanking , Run and Hit. I can: 1. take all sniper and camp and use one person as lure 2. take all assault to zerg rush 3. take all heavy to blast through 4. take a balance build and play safe For easy mode you can bring only 2 soldier and finish the game. For normal mode, only option 4 is viable. If you really want to play this game, iron mode + classic, ONLY OPTION 4 is viable. ( no save/load cheat, better enemy ) What i meant is, you dont have variety of viable tactic. NOPE. You can win the game by taking just six heavys and blast everything to kingdom come. So too is just combination of assault and support for zerg rush. Snipers are viable with ghost armor and archangel armor. All this people use and win in both normal and classic. There only one people haven't try out is all robot party |

QUOTE(Icehart @ Oct 17 2012, 09:19 PM) Well, got to give credit to Firaxis for reviving this awesome game franchise. Was hoping for more challenges in the near future. Overall, I quite like the game except that game structure is quite predictive. They should rebuild the terror from the deep, increase the difficulty and give it to those who like challenges. I just tried Impossible after finishing classic, and boy, that is hard Go for ironman. |
