how to differentiate between r2 and q5 led module.. ordered from dx 2 q5's led and 1 r2 led they all look the same under the magnifying glass
if im not mistaken r2 die is smaller than q5 right?? but i receive all the same size lol?

There is no difference between the 2 bins if the LED is the same. They are impossible to tell apart unless they are marked or you have an integration sphere.

A light meter may or may not be able to help (too many variables).

Here's a guide @ thebrightside that may have what you're looking for, to identify the LEDs

What you described is probably an XR-E, they have Q5 and the R2 bins commonly mentioned and used. Like what walter said, hard to tell the difference if both are XR-Es

uncle wong,

I've change my mind. I don't need that metal chunk. I just send my host to you. Less messy.

Like what AlanTCH said a P,M and E series chunk will be nice. So you can bore all of the series.

Hi guys,

My old Nuwai 3W was stolen from my car glovebox when the car went in for regular service. Although old, its small and provides good light when required.

So now im looking for a cheap CR123 replacement to stash in the car yet i wont be too heart broken if its gone missing again. "Cheap" means around the RM150 mark new or used (in good condition). Any suggestions?

Hi bimmer!

Few I can think of:

4Sevens MiNi 123 @ RM 130 (key chain sized) [XP-G R5]
iTP A1 @ RM 85, SS=RM105 (key chain sized) [XP-E Q5]
iTP SC1/SC2 @ RM 140 (bigger sized) [XP-E R2]
iTP A4 @ RM 105 (2 CR123 version of A1) [XP-E Q5]

If you can get second hand, it'll be even bette value!

I second these recommendations! thumbup.gif

But why do you specifically want one that runs on CR123A anyway? These batteries are not exactly hard to find, but they're not widely and cheaply available, either. Did you consider one that runs on a AA battery? The 4Sevens Mini AA or ITP A2 puts out plenty of light, you won't be disappointed, especially if you're comparing it with your stolen light.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys.

I had bad experiences with leaking AA alkalines previously and they rendered my AA Maglite useless. In the end i had to throw the Maglite out cos it was seriously badly corroded inside. We're talking about a several months of no use cos it was left in a corner for emergencies only and it had a new set of batts. Its ok if you use your lights regularly but not good if you leave it idle for months or years.

But now since there are (Energizer) lithium AA batts, i may consider AA lights now.
