QUOTE(pseudoblue @ Apr 16 2010, 12:58 PM) The S1200 is nice eh I'm looking for something compact-ish and bright. The Thrunite Catapult is not bad, but then the S1200 might be even nicer. Still eagerly awaiting more news and specs. If they had a neutral white version... wow...For those of you with neutral white lights, is it that much better than the normal one? I don't have any NW lights yet. |

QUOTE(pseudoblue @ Apr 16 2010, 03:56 PM) Compact, bright and have reasonable good runtime would be a 2x 123 light or 1x 18650 light. Going for the EagleTac P20C2 or T20C2 is like a good choice for me Yeah, I did consider also those 1x 18650 lights. The T20C2 Mk II is in my sights. This will be more for general use. But I'm also looking for a very bright (like above 700 lumens) thrower for distance use, hence something like the Catapult or upcoming S1200. QUOTE To my experience, this can be a matter of preference. But it is true that in general, the warmer tint will be more soothing to our eyes, giving a comfortable mood or feel, and to bring out certain color properties. The applicability of neutral, warm and cool white is very broad. I still personally prefer cool whites for flashlights, (yes to all neutral white guys, shocking eh Thanks for sharing your experience. |

QUOTE(polkiuj @ Apr 17 2010, 02:33 AM) I don't think the S1200 will be a crazy thrower. Then again, what do I know? I have no experience with the SST LEDs. =D I suppose that depends on the reflector design more than the LED itself. Anyway, I did read somewhere that the S1200 might have a more floody beam. |

Another light to check out.I am also looking for another compact hi-powered light (above 500 lumens). What do you guys think between the Lumapower vs Thrunite Catapult? Both using SST-50. |

QUOTE(pseudoblue @ Apr 23 2010, 09:18 AM) The D-Mini VX Ultra is smaller than the Thrunite Catapult, even with its 18650 tube and even more compact with its 123 tube. D-Mini does pack a punch in brightness for its size but good fo a short time, it has a wider beam and does not throw as well as the catapult. The catapult is brighter though. I found a pic and yes the VX Ultra is quite a bit smaller than the Catapult. It's really a pocket rocket.GW2U will be bringing in Lumapower lights soon The Catapult performs really well on 2x 18650, but that would make it even longer and even less compact compared to the VX Ultra. Yeah, I know the Catapult is more of a thrower. Hmm... any of you guys around PJ area? Wouldn't mind meeting up to check out the VX Ultra. |

Yeah, a lot of poison due to that Varapower 2000.
However, the tests show that it is nowhere near the claimed 3000 lumens. In fact only half that Ok lah, the 3000 lumens is probably emitter lumens (better marketing). Normally the loss is 20-30%, so OTF should be 2100. But now only about 1500. |

QUOTE(heng84 @ May 21 2010, 12:33 AM) thank you very much uncle wong for the great work.. haha really hope to deal with u in future again.. btw.. you got v1 and v2 catapult .. any difference for the output both on max?? v2 is 100 lumens brighter than v1. It's about 11% more, but don't know how visible it is. I think to be quite noticeable visibly, you must have at least 50% more. This post has been edited by jchong: May 21 2010, 11:08 AM |

QUOTE(damonlbs @ May 24 2010, 01:04 PM) Just read the review. I'm surprised he said "Overall, the V2's maximum output has been slightly lowered". I thought the output was increased from 900 to 1000 lumens because they drive the emitter harder now. Hmm... I wonder if his sample was defective because later he updated to say "ThruNite has contacted me stating that the damaged LED will lose some lumens. Currently awating their own testing process to verify this." |

Going by % terms, I guess the V2 is as claimed. ThruNite claims the V2 is about 11% brighter than V1 (1000 vs 900 lumens). From selfbuilt's numbers the throw is 9% higher and ceiling bounce is 9.8% higher.
But the disappointing thing is that in absolute terms the OTF lumens is only 600 (vs 1000 as claimed). So ThruNite's claim is way overstated. This is not good. |
