Hi bro. Welcome to the community icon_rolleyes.gif
Its nothing to do with tank to create a beautiful layout. If u give a cheap plastic tank to Mr Amano or Oliver knott, they can turn it into amazing planted tank. But a good filter is a must for planted tank. Ok, this is how its work; Plants make photosynthesis and grow, the fauna breathe oxygen produced by the photosynthesis, Micro-organisms in the substrate and bio filter degrade the fish waste. If u can get this complete ecosystem in ur aquarium, u will be rewarded with a beautiful planted tank nod.gif

Haha.. frm what i know, pet is a animal we kept for amusement. So,u must be specific if u ask for pet care coz dif pet dif care biggrin.gif . But if u ask info bout starting a planted tank, here we go. This is base on my 1.7ft tank.

1- Aquarium = RM 85
2- Lighting sys Aquazonic 96W for 2ft = RM 270
3- Canister filter Eheim 2211 + Eheim Substrat pro= RM 300
4- HOB for surface skimmer = RM 18
5- ADA Power sand S = RM 92
6- ADA Bacter 100 = RM 5 for 2 spoon
7- ADA  PanacW x4 spoon= RM 5 for 2 spoon
8- ADA Clear Super= RM 5 for 2 spoon
9- ADA PanacP x4 spoon = RM 5 for 2 spoon
10-ADA Tourmaline BC = RM 5 for 2 spoon
11-ADA Aqua soil Amazonia2 9 liters (powder type)= RM 140
12-ADA Bacter ball x1pcs ( put in canister filter)= RM 4

Ok that the basic setup (also my setup) for starting a planted tank. All the decoration like stone, drift wood and plant not yet in the list coz different ppl different taste of layout, so the price for the decoration is depends to what u want icon_rolleyes.gif .  And pls note that there will be a additional cost for the layout maintenance  brows.gif

Incoming~!!

Well for starters, here we look at the "Entire outlook of the aquarium" hence AQUASCAPING.. to make your aquarium look very pleasing to the eyes.

CAre for each individual species of fauna/flora is another whole new different story.

I'm currently studying and living in Kuala Terengganu, normally I get all my fishes for my aquarium when I go back home to Klang. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

So now I want to know whether anyone knows of any good LFS around Kuala Terengganu which sells Cherry shrimp??? Or whether I can buy it online and have them ship it here??? icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

Let me try say it out then u see if i got the idea correct for this pet.

First is get the tank set up with the co2 and what ever stuff that is require for plant to grow. Then plant the seed to the soil in the tank. Then start growing the plant?

WOnt the plant go out of shape and become a bush when time pass by? How do u cut the plant to make nice nice shape?

ALso how long can this hobby last? Like im sure the plant will grow and overcrowd the whole tank right? WHat do u guys do for that problem?

thats what it mean by aquascaping....it just like caring a garden but instead of you are doing it in underwater...

if the plant overgrown...just trim it...thats why im enjoyed when i trim my plant thrice a week...

you dont need to buy a seed to grow a plant....just get some easy growing plants which u can get mostly in lfs....

the hobby can last for infinity...just either u give up on this hobby or left it without any cares...

cheers

The hobby is aquascaping. That is doing landscape underwater.

Just think of it as trying to grow a garden inside an aquarium. The same rules apply to the plants - light, co2, soil, fertalizers, etc. Same problems too - but instead of weeds we get algae. rclxub.gif

The problem is you not using Titleist Pro V1X. Try that and you will find better results... whistling.gif /jk

The issue is your tank is not "designed".

Check out this

http://www.aquajournal.net/na/iwagumi/styles.html

Select a style (this is Iwagumi(rock layout) style). Then got to your Local Fish Shop (LFS) and buy all the necessary stuff...

Read the rest of it too...

http://www.aquajournal.net/na/index.html

Good luck... tongue.gif

Just added 2 Marimo balls into my shrimp tank. Here's a cherry shrimp instantly jumping right on it.
