Overfeeding will cause algae.
A healthy oto is should have a rounded belly. You're getting algae? Can share with us the light that you are using? And how old is your current tank setup?
Another option for a good algae eater is Nerite Snails. And to me, Yamato Shrimps are more hardworking than cherry shrimps though.
No overfeeding... Been feeding twice a day, 2-3 minutes only.
When I buy them for the first 2-3 months they will be healthy with rounded belly, but after 3-4 months, they will lose the round belly and look skinny, algae will start growing and they will stop eating. I don't know why... Bought them 3 times already, everytime buy 5 otos.
Lights I DIY T8 18 watts, 6500k fluorescent light in 20 gallon, so its low light setting

. How old ar? I moved it 2 times already, if count from when I upgrade from 1 feet to 2 feet its been 1 year already. If count from when I last moved it to a new house would be only 3 weeks.
Living in Kuala Terengganu now, no good LFS here. Otos I holiday go back cheras buy one, if otos die before holiday, my tank will be without algae eater. Problem started when otos die and no holiday for 3 months, so the tank 3 months no algae eater. It was horrible

, until I got so desperate I ordered online for a batch of 30 cherry shrimp (no one selling otos online)
And now the problems is that the cherrys are eating the brown algae, but not the furry one growing on my Hygrophila polysperma
