I mean, if you using external HDD for recording, maybe it is possible to transfer the recorded contents into another HDD and play it on another Byond decoder.

No sure about that. They might be using some kind of recording format which suits with Byond OS, but since Byond was running on Linux, I guess some one will come up with a program which enable us to playback the content on PC.

I've a question, have a friend who wants to install byond. He currently does not have sports packages.
Does it mean that he won't be getting Supersport HD and ESPN HD? Thanks.

All the info that you need is on 1st page. Yes, you can use your existing byond to get the recording service but you need to buy an external USB HDD. Then you just need to call Astro and ask them to enable the recording service and they will charge you Rm5 monthly. The RM10 monthly charges if you opt for new Byond PVR decoder which comes with 500GB internal HDD.

RM10 - if you change to the new PVR box

RM5 - If u use current Byond box. You need to buy external HDD. Only WD MyPassport AV are supported by Byond. (320GB maximum).
If u have buy the new HDD, just called Astro to activate the recording function on your current byond box. Make sure you already have that HDD and connect beihnd your decoder.

you will get the HD channels with the packages you subscribe to.

if you dont have sports package, you cannot watch ESPN or Supersport HD.

another thing on PVR FAQ is that:

IF you have a recording of a certain channel, example, ESPN HD, you must be subscribed to sports to continue to watch previous recordings. if you cancel sports, you cannot even watch what you record.
