Actually, to put it simple...

If I would pay close to RM3k for a iPhone 3GS 32GB...
With 3K, I might as well:
1. Buy Nokia N900 (Maemo) or Motorola Milestone (Android), which boths are great smartphones. (AP around RM1800)
2. Buy one iPod Touch 3G - 16GB - JB it, and enjoy the apps/games. (around RM1.1K)

Heck, if I really want true mobile gaming experience, the RM1K I can buy myself a PSP and still have extra to spare. But I already have PSP.
So, I would get the iPod Touch 3G to get those cool apps and games. Without phone functionality, I don't have to worry about the battery power. Plus, since I have N900, I can enjoy true multi-tasking and it's browsing experience.

Meh.... this is good idea. I can enjoy both.

thats what i was going for, what i was thinking
i get this and an ipod touch as its just the same as the iphone without the phone function

Ya good idea, can enjoy both. rclxm9.gif

For me, I don't need iPhone, I'm interested in few of it's softwares and also the games. So, iPod Touch will fit my requirement and the price is reasonable. Plus, without phone functionality, I don't have to worry about reserving the battery for phone calls, etc. and I can enjoy the games/apps to the max. I'm not going to pay additional around RM1.5K, just to get the phone function and 3.5M camera?

But it depends, some people might want to carry only 1 device and they actually like iPhone. Just see which fit your requirements and need.
I need a smartphone with flexibility, true multi-tasking, good web browsing experience, system monitor, nice Desktop, nice UI, which N900 fits the bill very well. Honestly, I can't stop using this phone, it's very addicting. Because it's mobile, I can use it anywhere easily, better than carrying laptops around. Just like the PSP, mobile gaming experience, you can play it anywhere easily, can put it to sleep mode anytime to pause the game. With the N900, you can do a short and quick web browsing with PC like experience (as long as you have WiFi or 3G data plan) almost anywhere.

Not rich, it's "wise" spending. Haha... cool2.gif
Rich is when one simply spend and buy something expensive that should cost much less.

Wise spending is what we should practice. Those that are really rich they just have so much money until they dunno what to buy. Its like my uncle i ask him buy la iphone he said what for? He prefer something simply like Nokia 8800 ARTE CARBON even it cost RM4500 to him its small and easy to use. To me its like wat for? Thats why different people have difference preferences

I have few questions about N900:
1. Is it true that it can boot with Android in the future?
2. Is OS the one that decides the responsiveness of the touchscreen?
3. Does it have nHD screen just like SE Satio, Vivaz?
4. Currently it can only be used to listen to radio using third party software? Does it need internet connection to open the radio? Or just like the normal way after plugging in the headset then can listen to the radio already?
Sorry for asking so much. I am really interested in buying this phone. biggrin.gif

MY answers are in blue
1. Is it true that it can boot with Android in the future?
Watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yri4qOfP8T0

2. Is OS the one that decides the responsiveness of the touchscreen?
No, the combination of hardware and software decides it

3. Does it have nHD screen just like SE Satio, Vivaz?
No, but the quality is as good as nHD

4. Currently it can only be used to listen to radio using third party software? Does it need internet connection to open the radio? Or just like the normal way after plugging in the headset then can listen to the radio already?
Sorry for asking so much. I am really interested in buying this phone. biggrin.gif
To listen to local FM yes u need headset to act as an antenna or if u have 3G access or wifi u can listen to online radio.

3. AFAIK, nHD screen hve the res of 640x360 while N900 screen hve 800X480 res. Hence, N900 screen was miles better than the nHD screen as the res was much higher than the nHD screen

4. If ur talking bout FM radio than yes, just download the app, jack in ur earphone as da antenna and enjoy FM radio on ur phone. This is due to the fact that N900 actually have FM receiver in it alongside FM transmitter but Nokia doesn't write an app to use the hardware. But then, the community steps in and write an app to utilize the unused FM receiver in N900

But if u listen to Internet Radio (The one incorporated into the Media Player, then u need to pay for the usage, as it uses data (streaming) from the internet.

Hope this clarifies it icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Apr 10 2010, 11:27 PM)
Personally, iPhone makes things better for the novice or normal users, they make it simple and "safe" for these users. But then, these are not the "smartphone" that techies or IT people are looking for; These are more like "smart"phones for dummies. That's why there're article which says iPhone is not a smartphone.

You can't really say that. It would be more apt to say that its a phone for tinkerers, but not necessary IT people. My cousin loves the iphone because apple did a smartphone "right", its very usable, the apps work well and there's a huge amount of apps in the app store (apple really knew how to push it out and market it). He's a programmer that does PS3 game programming, so if you want to say he's not a techie/IT person he out qualifies most of us here tongue.gif

The iphone is also used a lot by Microsoft employees (the tech side). So don't be so quick to think that the iphone is only for novice users. They're doing something right, and all other phone companies should be learning from them.

QUOTE
But then, it depends on the users/buyers. iPhone will suit most normal phone users and fit their requirements, because they polished then important BASIC features very well. They don't really need "smart" users.

They did alot more than that. Polishing even BASIC features like that they did is no easy task, if you've done any UI development work and testing with users, you'd be surprised how many idiots are around laugh.gif However what they did was more than just the UI, they had a whole plan, and everything was executed together properly. It wasn't half-assed, and when the iphone was launched, they were already bringing in tons of developers for the phone.

QUOTE
Honestly, I'm not against iPhone, I would get one but definitely will JB it. I just cannot accept the price which is over ridiculous for it's specs. Based on current phone market, it shouldn't even cost more than RM1.5K. The 3GS only come with single speaker, delivering MONO sound quality.

Agreed, its horribly overpriced.

QUOTE
iPhone actually is a GOOD thing to happen, when it first launch, it make a BIG entrance and change to the smartphone world. It's like a phone from future, and make all other smartphones look bad and outdated. But it's been sometime and I only see minor updates or facelift over the iPhone 2G->3G->3GS. Imagine the first buyer, pity them and it ain't cheap.

iPhone change the smartphones market, bring tough competition, and WAKE UP others and make them pay more attention, which results to today's smartphone and also competitive pricing. If not, I think smartphones would easily cost RM3K or more.
*
You're wrong here. Even when the first iphone was launched, it was behind in features and even in hardware specs. You could find phones that were more powerful than it, but you could not find one so properly designed. Its like driving a BMW vs driving a proton. They were worlds apart. Now look at all the smart phones, they stole UI ideas from the iphone, almost every single phone uses their interface.

I got the n900 because I find it better than the iphone for my needs smile.gif Using ssh on an iphone is PAINFUL, its a pleasure on the n900 smile.gif Browsing with flash, multitasking, good integration with skype/IMs makes me love this phone. The problem is, this phone is half-baked at the moment. Nokia released it as a "development" phone for people to test and play to get ready for meego.

My only worry about the n900 is that nokia will stop providing support for it (there's alot of worry of fremantle abandonment when harmattan is released) and then we'll have a phone that is only 1/2 of what it could be. Nokia is known to do this, so its one of my worries.

Now where's my PR 1.2!

I disagree,
Yea u understand their tutorial but we dont expect everyone to understand right? but end of the tutorial i put a link back to the overclock site. Furthermore ppl will keep asking several question over n over n over again. So to reduce that to happen i prefer this way. I hope u understand
