QUOTE(winc87 @ Sep 6 2005, 10:06 PM) The waterblocks on the mosfet are not that useful since the mosfet can sustain up to 100C. Normally the mosfet only goes up to 50-60C. not really.. the actual temps are not reported.. the temp probe is placed on the side .. the small yellow dot if u can see there near the heatsinks.. so it's actually the temp of the surrounding area of the mosfet.. not directly @ the mosfet

Mine can go up to 68c If the sensor is the surrounding area then it should be even higher. Crap

I put the probe on the heatsink. No way i could stick the probe to the mosfet as the heatsink glued on it.

then it's not the mosfet as well heh
the heatsink is not as hot as the mosfet itself

The difference shouldn't be too big, i got the temp reading at 50C something. The real temp of the mosfet shouldn't exceed 100C right ?
Or do you have the temp reading showing that the mosfet exceed 100C ?

nah.. if i'm not mistaken mosfets are the hottest @ the top.. (Correct me if i'm wrong)
ask some of the electrical engineering student or something..
mine temp (in ITE) never went past 50 cause i have a fan blowing @ it all the time.. but i'm thinking it will be around 60-70c..
and it depends on whether u have the jp17 jumper on 2 and 3 position

winc87 and I are both electronic students. We know the limit of MOSFET. I know it's the hottest component on motherboard, but typical MOSFET can sustain more than 100C. It is fine to work at 70-80C, it's analogy to yr proc running at 40C only. Of course with extra cooling you can get slightly better stability. You can check here for a typical MOSFET operating temperature. It's up to 125C, but of course at this temperature the MOSFET won't work well. Well, if the heatsink is 50C, at most the MOSFET will be around 60C only. It wont exceed 70 or 80C for sure. This post has been edited by charge-n-go: Sep 8 2005, 01:58 AM

thanks for clearing that up.. i'm talking about the real temps.. not the limit of the mosfet.. i know they go really high

i changed the thermal paste on mine and it runs pretty cool.. just that mine is making some ticking sound now so i have no choice but to change it soon..
doesn't really bother me (the ticking sound) but i can try whether it runs cooler as well on the new cooler..

How about getting some customised waterblock from the Nazi if you have the cash.

I've applied AS5 on mine. Still very high temps. Probably cause I've no fan on it or the CPU. What's the max temps for chipsets?

lol mosfet waterblock.. IMO it's a waste of money and extra uncessary loop in the WC system
my chipset never hit past 50-51c underload.. i run it 100% all the time.. as for the limit.. i'm not sure.. but to me i won't let it go > 55-58c
