Avatar Blu-ray Sells 1.5m, Breaks First-Day Sales Record

Blu-ray MoviesAccording to Deadline Hollywood's Nikki Finke, quoting sources from 20th Century Fox, the Blu-ray edition of Avatar has sold 1.5 million units in the US and Canada during its first-day and has thus "blown away" the record for first-day Blu-ray sales, until now held by The Dark Knight, which had sold 600,000 units in December 9, 2008.

Note that neither Netflix nor Redbox are stocking Avatar yet, as both rental companies recently signed agreements with Fox to delay availability of titles from the studio for 28 days. Blockbuster, on the other hand, is.

I just bought a copy from Speedy, haven't watch yet, beside free 6 postcard inside, they also have free "exclusive sticker pack", those included :

btw just finish watching it, eventhough i already expect PQ to be perfect, but it still make my jaw drop, especially the Hallelujah Mountains & the jungle shot, it just looks so damn stunning !

It seem like some of the BD already start to convert to Single-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo. That mean there is only one single disc and one side is blu-ray and another side is DVD. Who's idea is this? Double sided disc is always ugly in my opinion. It only will acheive cost saving for holywood's studios.

Example are Bourne series of movie (not trilogy pack). Fortunately the Bourne Trilogy did not affected. Here is example:





Who like this idea and disc? and who don't? I don't like this design. Really ugly and missing cover art.

Really strange for WWII in HD US and UK version.

US version already released but it is only 470 mins whereas UK version will release on April 26, 2010 but it is 600 mins. US version is 1080i whereas UK version is 1080p.

Strange thing is US is 2 discs version whereas UK is 1 disc!

I am not sure information in www.blu-ray.com correct or not. But release date for UK version is sure wrong.
