First and foremost, can I get past the "Emergency Calls Only" screen? Is it possible?

I did it more than a month ago. (3.1.3). Its all very well. So far no problem and no difference. -

My bigboss(father) gave it to me yesterday...i tried downgrading the FW to 3.1.2 but error 1015 comes up...hmmm dunno wat to do next..

well bro if it is stuck here...then you need wait till the jailbreak and the unlock comes out for the 3.1.3 version..because your set is a network locked set...you cant download the 3.1.2 because apple doesnt allow you to do hat unless your previous set is jailbroken and had catch the shsh file...if you know which country..by try asking your dad..then put in the repective sim..unlocked the phone then use it as a ipod touch the jailbreak is out...

Current Firmware : 3.1.2
Current network: Maxis
iTunes Version : 9.0
PC/MAC : Mac
Jailbreaking software : blackra1n
Problem Encountered : I keep getting a 'Could not Activate Cellular Data Network' message whenever I try to either send MMS or use 3G
Steps Taken So Far :
1) Checked the settings for MMS in this thread (http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/868281/+10) and mine is the same details
2) Resetting the phone. Didn't work. Still got the same message.

Other Information/Remarks :
I'm wondering if it's the network itself is having problems, or it's my own phone. This has only happened recently (the past few days). Previously, I haven't had this problem after enabling MMS.Any advice is appreciated!

From what I know this is an australian set (MB496X/A), iphone 3G black 16GB....do we really need the respective network simcard to activate it? If not, no other way? This set comes with 2.2 FW before the update. It got WinterBoard before...now if cannot use as phone, use as ipod touch is good enough for me since I already have another phone to use...

following what you said..3g wouldn't be a problem...go itunes and try shift restore..it means on the itunes press shift button then click restore....before that you download 3.1.2 version at the below link...then try to choose the file and restore see whether it works again...

OK I have just successfully downgraded the FW to 3.1.2....now still stuck to activate it...inserted my celcom simcard, cannot activate it...now what bro?

so now it works but locked right....use the blacksnow..to unlocked it..(just unlocked it no need to jailbreak because you have use blackra1n...

if yours is indeed an australian unit, you actually have an option of unlocking (legally) and no need of the jailbreaking maneuver anymore.

Yea locked~~....already used the blacksnow but still locked...I guess it's caused by my 05.12 modem firmware...so sad again liao~~

telstra has the most expensive unlocking fee in australia; AUD150 if i'm not wrong.

vodafone is AUD50.

try checking out telstra's website for the exact procedure and price.

ohh..gosh so expensive to unlocked legally...with telstra...why is it so cheap with vodafone???
but he cant do the service over here right...he have to bring it to australia...

Yes, I upgrade it using iTunes. Its a Maxis set & am using Celcom.

well you can try calling maxis cs and do a backhand setting on your data network..after that you try to loggin...maybe it might work..
