With the sudden influx of newbiew/n00bs who refuse to use the search function, and thus opening repeat topic/thread, here's the software corner's own super-newbie/n00b thread.

*hint: always double check the list from the Apple website above against the iPhone 3G Part Numbers (this could be found outside the box or via Settings -> General -> About -> Model) to determine the origin of your iPhone 3G, as there is currently a scam going around the market.*

The iPhone 3G and 3GS, both share the physical appearance and it could be difficult to differentiate them at a glance. However here are a few tips to identify them:

1. The 3GS has a built in compass whilst the 3G doesn't.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

2. The backcase of the 3GS has a reflective silver text (to match the silver Apple logo) whist the 3G bears a grey text.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

3. The 3GS is significantly faster and more responsive in terms of data processing

4. The 3GS has the ability to record video (and you can e-mail, send it via MMS, and upload directly to youtube and MobileMe) whilst the 3G can't.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

5. The 3GS has a much better camera (3MP) and it has automatic focus, white balance and exposure as well.

Wow, are we on v11 already? Nice! TS, would it be a good idea to cross link back to the last post in v10 for other members' convenient backtrack? Just my 2 cents, thanks smile.gif

It's official! Digi will be offering iPhone packages within 1st half of 2010. Finally, welcomed competition to Maxis has arrived! Check out their website:

http://www.digi.com.my/iphone/index.do

Digi to Sell IPhone in Malaysia, Taking on Maxis (Update3) from Bloomberg

March 1 (Bloomberg) -- Digi.Com Bhd., the Malaysian mobile- phone company controlled by Norway’s Telenor ASA, signed an agreement to sell Apple Inc.’s iPhone in Malaysia to tap growth in a market that it forecasts will surge 10-fold in five years.

“Growth is coming back this year,” Digi’s Chief Executive Officer Johan Dennelind said in an interview with Bloomberg television in Kuala Lumpur today. Digi will start selling iPhone 3G and 3GS in “coming months,” he said.

The three-year agreement will help Digi increase sales more than 5 percent this year, higher than the industry average, Dennelind said. Digi’s sales rose 2 percent last year, slowing from 10 percent in 2008 as Malaysia’s economy shrank 1.7 percent. The government forecasts economic growth of more than 4 percent this year.

The deal will end Maxis Communications Bhd.’s monopoly on selling iPhones in Malaysia. Phone companies are focusing on data sales in the nation of 27 million people as smartphones become increasingly popular to access the Internet. Malaysia has more mobile phones than people, offering limited growth in voice calls.

“The competition is going to be brutal,” said Scott Lim, who manages the equivalent of $670 million, including Maxis shares, as chief executive officer of MIDF Amanah Asset Management Bhd. in Kuala Lumpur.

are you using tethering?

if you are one edge or gprs your iphone will not be able to receive sms or calls until you are disconnected. but if you are using 3g, then you phone will still be able to get calls and sms. i have no idea why since other phones will disconnect edge/gprs when u get sms or calls but iphone just won't. i think that is the reason you get delayed sms and fail calls.

To all the Pros here,

I am a newbie on my IPhone 3GS, got it from Maxis a month back. That time it came with 3.1.2 OS, and i found this website: iphonenodata.com and was pretty happy with this small little tool for not exceeding my data usage from Maxis.

A week back I updated my OS to 3.1.3, even with the help of iphonenodata I am still able to download/view pages through safari, youtube and facebook!

And worst part is even when I am at home, the Iphone seems to connect to 3G network more than my home wifi.

Can anyone please advice me how to stop my 3g/edge usage? :'(
I have already exceeded 200MB of the original plan, not sure how much should I pay for it.. >"<

Please help and much appreciates!
