Yea,how come there is a "best uni" there?
But I think except Monash is comparable to us..
The courses that Nott offer should be better than the locals one..
More recognised, with a shorter period to study..

Hey guys, I've prepared an answer for ignorant people out there, lol.

Nottingham Malaysia is supposed to be an identical replica of the teaching standards in the UK.
Differences should only be reflected in the cultural and social aspects.

What Proof? I quote programs such as the MBA, and also other management courses provided by the Business School. The MBA delivered in Malaysia is no different in terms of accreditation by AMBA towards the program delivered at the main Nottingham campus. Also, the business school in Malaysia is recognized alongwith the main Nottingham campus in UK by the recent EQUIS accreditation. (see http://www.nottingham.edu.my/Faculties/Soc...ages/news.aspx)

So to those haters saying "this is the Malaysian campus only lah, not as good as the UK wan, don't waste time pay so much money go there..", please maintain status quo, so I can easily pick up all your lost opportunities in life.

---

So, with proof that the standards are high, as seen in the accreditation by leading bodies, and couple that with Nottingham's world top 100 ranking, why is it not the best university in Malaysia? The only other contender would be Monash, as it is also a quality institution sharing the same world top 100 ranking.

monash is at 45 while nottingham is at 91..

according to times higher education rankings for 2009...

but of course..both uni have their respective strengths and weakness. smile.gif

I read somewhere that say the standards in M'sia campus (MBA course, IIRC) is higher coz our students are too competitive. They had to lower their passing mark (or some other indicator) in UK Campus to compete wit M'sian campus students. Forgot where already.

EDIT: Found it. http://educationmalaysia.blogspot.com/2006...nottingham.html

Take the rest of the article with a pinch of salt and pepper coz the post is 4 years old.

There are other rankings indicating otherwise. That's why i mentioned, "is a strong contender". Hehe. Can't really compare, coz as you've mentioned, both have their respective strengths and weaknesses. I guess the major consideration students in Malaysia have to make when choosing between Monash and Nottingham is the study environment. One is a modern and classy complex, the other is more of the outdoors, greens, sprawling park concept.

Oh wow. But If I do go for a MBA, I probably would seek other universities, since my first degree is from Nottingham.

there is always a question mark about the quality of a branch campus of a university, and how much consistency there is.........

so if monash is ranked 40th worldwide, does it mean it's the same for the msian campus?.........

note that the entry cutoff for certain courses offered at multiple campuses are different.......check monash's prospectus........clayton is always higher than the others........

and i was reading the nottingham msia prospectus........while they claim equivalence, and possibility of transfers, it is subject to 'minimum grades'.......ie you have to achieve certain minimum grades to be eligible for transfer........which imply the standards at the main campuses in and around nottingham is higher than msia..........also, the prospectus seem to suggest that exams are set locally, not the common exam papers used in their uk campuses.........

at least they use proper english.........i was also reading ucsi's prospectus, i found so many english mistakes, it reflects very badly on the establishment........

I believe the minimum grade is applied in China Campus and Malaysia Campus as well (for those who want to come).

... and yes the exam papers are set locally, but it does not mean that it is not regulated twice before being approved. Once by UK, and once by a third party in UK if needed.
