technician from TM gonna install HSBB in my house tmr!!!! i hape they dont do any drilling or else i will die on the spot XD

lol?? plz compare our price with other countries. use brain  laugh.gif

Well, they installed the fibre socket on the wall in my kitchen. So that involved some drilling. sweat.gif

Fortunately for me, my house already had a conduit to run the cable from the back all the way to the front, so there was no need to drill any hooks to hold the cable.

Try to plan on how and where you wanna land the fibre cable and from there, where you want to put the modem + router. Then talk to the technician when he comes over and see if he agrees it's possible.

QUOTE(Gh-x @ Mar 19 2010, 11:09 PM)
Well that was just an Example, even right now the price is unknown. For me i target the 10Mb to be around the Streamyx 4Mb package price.
Well i hope the HSBB come with a good bandwidth cap for an a little higher than average user.
*
Yeah, I get what you mean. Let's hope the package is something achievable. wink.gif

That would be an very good price. I'm expecting current 4mb price-200+. If lower than that, awesome! Streamyx will be way cheaper too if that happens.

QUOTE(rasyid @ Mar 20 2010, 02:58 AM)
i dont think it will cost more than RM150 .. cause the purpose of this is to increase the broadband penetration ...
who would use if its cost more than what they already paying ...  gov is not thinking of profit ..
they just want to achieve the target ..

govemen also have reputation to keep ... they will get bad name la if the broadband penetration sucks ..
*
Streamyx is still available. A cheaper streamyx will boost the broadband penetration too.

So we definitely have to use the router given by them? That would be shit.

They won't lose if they charge cheaply. The speed is LOCAL network speed. They WILL, and they CAN guarantee that speed for local connections. For local bandwidth, it's almost free for them. If MORE user subscribe, then they'll be able to cover their wiring cost very fast.

Now, the more user subscribes, the only one that will suffer will be user themselves. Why? Because international link is limited.

If they charge a PREMIUM price, TM will suffer. No one will subscribe new package and they won't be able to cover the fiber wiring cost.

This local internet vs international link got me wondering. Can US citizen consider their internet 'local internet' if their browsing speed is fast when access youtube which was based on US itself. When they browse sites outside US, the speed is pretty much limited due to 'international link'. So, who to be blame here?

TM has done their best to supply infrastructure for Malaysian. To have fibre optics in all residential area is always a welcome. International speed is different issue together. The focus here is to replace all copper based wire to fibre optics.

Please don't tell me it is ok to have DSL with good internatianal speed, and let us forget about laying out fibres locally.

For US netizens, sites like Youtube, and most Filehosting websites, are all considered as Local Internet, just like Lowyat.NET here. Once we upgrade to HSBB, loading LYN will be almost like browsing through your computer. If we were to connect to US servers, we'll be limited with latency (+100ms) and bandwidth (if a lot of user downloading from US servers). The thing about US is that they have a very well established internet network, so they don't usually need to browse sites outside US.

But we *could* get fast speed for torrents, as I think most of Malaysians use torrent. Torrent, on the other hand, is not based on server. It's based on location of peers, in which if we were to upgrade to HSBB, we'll get significant increased upload speed.

Even though you have a 10Mbps connection, it still depends on the smallest pipe (bottleneck) in the end-to-end connection. For example, if this forum is hosted on a server at a local DC and the server has a 1Mbps port , you will not be able to get 10Mbps connection. Most dedicated server in our local DCs are on a 1Mbps port and maybe 10Mbps if you pay more per month. Most servers in US DCs are either on 10 or 100Mbps ports and even 1Gbps.

Just my 2 cent...
Let say 10mbps for 160. 10mbps for local, if m'sia lots of torrent seeders then can utilize 10mbps. Then... assume that 4mbps to foreign servers. Still acceptable right? since streamyx 4mbps to foreign servers also need 160/month. I just hope that the price not too high. 10mbps local is quite nice. If there are local servers providing direct download for media contents will be even better(illegal so... quite impossible). lolz

Really just my 2 cent ahaha
