As a matter of fact, there will be no increase in this capacity expected until that Asia America Gateway is completed somewhere, IINM, in 2012*.
The AAG started operating around Dec 2009.

You can see from the FAQ that they have already made provisions for this in their T&C. They guarantee 90++% of the rated speeds for local - local connections, but anything that goes international is bound by the "best effort" T&C.
*
Local connections are within their control so they can try to ensure a certain level of service. There is no way to guarantee end-to-end speeds over international links to all over the world as there are too many factors that come into play for such a connection.

still, tm cut a few bandwidth amount from each user so they can get a new subscriber.
*
Bandwidth is shared. If you were to get a 10Mbps dedicated connection (like a leased line), you would probably have to pay in the thousands of RM per month.

They will still need better international links to support the new volume.

Normally the other countries get away with it due to fair usage policies, or bandwidth cap whatever you call it.
*
Maybe TM also will follow the other countries practices to keep cost for international bandwidth down.

In the short term, the only people who are going to sign up for HSBB will be the heavy downloaders. The cost cannot be justified for casual or regular users. Why pay more than RM160 when that can buy you 4MB (which is already a lot for regular users)?
*
Unless the price is known, you cannot yet determine what the up-take would be. Since HSBB provides other services other than internet surfing, it is possible then current casual users may find those added services useful to them and hence signup.

Once we upgrade to HSBB, loading LYN will be almost like browsing through your computer.

Even though you have a 10Mbps connection, it still depends on the smallest pipe (bottleneck) in the end-to-end connection. For example, if this forum is hosted on a server at a local DC and the server has a 1Mbps port , you will not be able to get 10Mbps connection. Most dedicated server in our local DCs are on a 1Mbps port and maybe 10Mbps if you pay more per month. Most servers in US DCs are either on 10 or 100Mbps ports and even 1Gbps.

Could someone on HSBB post a couple of trace routes to sites in US?

QUOTE(thankyou @ Mar 23 2010, 12:22 PM)
if they do not bundle IPTV with HSBB Internet, it will be an issue unless the person does not subscribe to Astro. Just imagine:

HSBB - RM150 - 180
IPTV - RM50
Astro - RM100 - 120

My wallet gonna torn apart!

I was told that the 5/10/20Mbps packages will have the 3 services. Apart from the internet speed , the difference would be eg if you buy video on demand, it may cost more if you have the lower package and cost less if you have the higher package. The IPTV bandwidth is separate so does not affect the Internet part. Supposedly we are going to be surprised with the pricing... just have to wait till tomorrow.

If more people are inconsiderate like that, you may just find that TM will implement methods to curb such usage. I have said many times before that they have not said you can download unlimited amounts of data. In fact, their FAQ also now says that. See below. They may be slowly changing their FAQ and terms ad rules to bring in such a download limit in the future to curb excess usage.

If you think carefully, if TM decides to impose download limits, it will be the heavy downloaders that will be affected the most. The light users would probably still be within the restricted limits.

41. Why TM is offering unlimited packages & at the same time limits the amount of traffic?
Unlimited means that there is no time capping for user to access to the Internet and it does not mean that user can download/upload an unlimited volume of data.

Well it's time for they to lower the price for broadband, I can't remember for how long 1MB still remains at RM88.
*
It may be possible that Streamyx prices will come down. After all, they just had the Super Upgrade deal and the Blockbuster deal and signed up users for 1-2 years contract at the current prices.

If people just downloading 24/7 just for the sake of downloading, that is crazy. But, there are reasons why TM introduce 4mbs UNLIMITED.If they cant give UNLIMITED just say la...simple...people wont even want to download 24/7.They must do what they have promised.people are greedy. No use being generous.

People need to understand the unlimited term first.
