My family in Thailand said that a lot of shops in Bangkok are now having a sale. The rally had a disappointing turnout, but the silver lining is that shops are lowering their prices to cover their loss. I'm going there next week for shopping.

5-Star Hotel ~ Dream Hotel
Classic Room-30Sqm-Plasma Tv-Wifi
Classic 1 King Bed
Travel Date: 28/8 - 31/8 (3D2N)

I couldn't believe that I could get the rate of RM260/night.

I remember Dream Hotel was one of our top list when we did our research on BKK hotels, the rate was range between RM500~RM600 IIANM, now due to this political issues, their room rates are hammered down, this is definitely a steal!

I bet I would. Since August will be Ramadhan month, I'm planning on late July but still want to consider whether Bangkok or Terengganu Island. Hotel cheap, transportation cheap and everything will be cheap. Thats heaven. I do the same when Jakarta get bomb last few years.

Currently quiet. However, even at its peak, the demonstrations were limited to a few defined areas. The danger however, at that time, and now is that you'd never know what rogue elements would do and where.

But make no mistake, the situation in BKK is fluid and can change. The recent end to the crisis is by no means a final end to the issues that caused the demonstrations. Nothing was resolved; the affected people are still unhappy.

Compounding this, there is a worrying royal succession issue that can impact in the near future.

Personally I would go to BKK but I would not bring family or parents just in case things change. The situation won't change quickly (it takes time and infrastructure to restart) though but when it does, trouble will follow again. Any traveler will need to monitor news and know what to do and where to go in case an exit from BKK is necessary.

*note: this is my opinion having lived/worked in Bangkok before.

M heading there 1st weekend of Jul...@aeiou - for Best western rate, you got the rate from which website?

I am also looking at the following hotels

Baiyoke Boutique - Dlx with b'fast 2 THB1200
PR Place - Classic Suite is 900 THB/night(for 2 guests).
Tango vibrant living place-Standard RoomQueen size bed @Thai Baht 1250net/night. Includes American breakfast set.

Anyone had stayed in the above hotels and any comments to share?

Tempting indeed, with low fares, and damn cheap hotels ...

But almost half of Central World's gone, is Pratunam area even safe?

Worst fear is they did something to the airport or such. Sigh .... How I miss the food and places of BKK.

I booked thru Asiarooms.com.
The reason I booked different Hotel on the last night of our trip was because we will be mainly shopping in Silom & Pratunam area on 18th and going to Jatujak on 19th in the morning by BTS Skytrain. Best Western Mayfair is just walking distance to Payathai, Ratchathewi BTS station and Airport rail link station. At about 4pm on 19th, either we walk or hotel's tuk-tuk can send us to the Ratchaprarop Airport rail link station for the free ride to Suvarnabhumi airport.

Wanna join us for Safary World on 17th ? can get cheaper price if book in group.
