Hey guys,

I was searching for a thread had info on recovering from workout pains/injuries. Currently I'm suffering from my hamstring pains caused by DLs. I've never really did a 5 rep DL in gym. It was my first time, but I've been practising the form for quite awhile, there was no pain throughout the entire exercise, just the great sensation of ur hamstrings burning through the workout. Back was straight throughout.

The problem started when I woke up the next day though. Tried to flex my hamstrings, via getting into DL position and it hurt like mad. The hamstrings only. It was so bad that i couldnt squat for my next workout. Im suppose to squat again today, any suggestions on how to allow my hamstrings to recuperate and recover after the next time I DL? And should I squat today? Can it actually be done with the hamstrings hurting like that? Full squats btw. Thanks a lot guys..

i don't know about this, since i'm not pro at this thing..but one thing that i know, when you just started working out from scratch, your body will start to pain after certain amount of time you workout..i said this because i faced this situation like more than 5 times, when i was starting to workout...for example, i usually make myself to do pushups like 60x a day, continously, and another 30x and another 20x in a couple of times..the pain starts after a week, than use 3 days of my daily pushups to recover, than after that takes 2 weeks to pain again...while the pain was occuring, maybe you can noticed some difference in your muscle, but i dunno what to name it, since i just wourkout on my own theory..
sorry if this is no help for you...

hamstrings? prolly wrong technique. i've never had any hamstring soreness from DL, only lowerback and upperback.

Deadlifts do work your hamstrings, lower back and traps. I've experienced DOMS from all 3 muscle groups. As it was your first time, its probably DOMS. Squats work your quads more so squats should be ok.

You could be doing a Romanian DL. They place more emphasis on the glutes and hams. It's different from the conventional way of pulling.
If its regular DOMS just eat well and get your rest, and it wont be as bad the next time
The better your nutrition, the better your recovery

yeah, i wasnt doing a stiff leg. I see i see.. any stretching exercises I can do hopefully recover faster??

xarmx : i know what you mean man! first cut is the deepest ><
axymax : yeah seems to fit the symptoms of DOMS perfectly.

john91: ooh but full squats though. I attempted to squat again today, dono my hip or glutes not fired up from warm up or something (I DID MY WARM UPS) n my hamstrings started to hurt as I went down. Lower back started to feel the load as I went up.. I havent been lifting much but I've never had lower back pain from squatting, only the burn from quads.

Todays DLs were pretty ok but more lower back than hamstrings.hamstrings still feel a bit of pain, but not so much cuz warmed up from stretches/squats.thanks guys! really appreciate it. I hope everyone can use this thread to post up QnA about injuries/pains they're not sure of, since we're all training and there's always a risk of getting hurt!

It's better to wait until you're fully recovered, especially if you've got an infection from a sore throat. If you go ahead and force yourself, it may take a toll on your immune system and you're gonna have a longer wait. Best to consult a doctor

Hi guys, got a question here, ever since I started lifting weights I've been plagued by aches, mainly at the joints, have recovered from elbow pains (from both arms, different timings though), and both wrists. Currently recovering from a minor wrist sprain. Now, it might be from overlifting but I am always careful to moderate my weights, not just blindly following what my gym mates pull. So far I've been able to get 10 x 3 reps for most of the weights.
Question is, should I be starting on calcium pills or something. Need some advice on nutrition for this. Many thanks!

Oh, I have a bad back as well sad.gif. I'm only 27 would you believe that.

First thing to do is always to lower the weight and assess your form. You might also wanna start on some glucosamine.

I'd believe that. I'm 17 and I've got a back injury. wink.gif

Ever since I started lifting weights and my recovery improved, I started getting strong. Not the other way around. You must assess your form. The people I train always say that they feel better, so it's strange that you feel WORSE from exercise. Perhaps you ought to deload and reset your reps as your form could falter in later reps, especially if you're not technically proficient enough. People don't seem to understand, the importance isn't in keeping up with the repetitions. It's the load you're under and effort you exert. Time under load can effectively grow muscle better than repetitions as a whole. Also, it's safer because the CNS is active in protecting itself during that rep, instead of resetting in each rep.

Check out Sinew Plex by Poliquin. Had a client with minor knee pain due to old age plus he's an avid badminton player. Put him into three weeks of Sinew Plex and he barely felt any pain anymore. Glucosamine chondoitrin is also good, but the results take such a long time to appear. Plus you need Vit-A supplementation as a catalyst. Another option are fish oils. Fish oils are like a double edge sword as it helps heal joint pain as well as act as an anti-oxidant and brain booster. Especially useful for people that have problems with attention deficiency (such as myself) Amazing supplement. It also works to burn off fat. Hormonal thing this.

My fish oils are from True Protein if you're wondering, where it's sold in a pack of 1000 capsules of 1000MG. I take about 14 caps a day (the recommended serving dose is 1 cap a day but my studies have taken me further from that belief), and it'll last me for about 2 and a half months.

Thanks a bunch for the reply pizzaboy. Well tbh I wouldn't say my problem is that serious, all my injuries so far have recovered well and happy to say I didnt reinjure them so far. I was kinda wondering if my body wasnt used to the load stress maybe? Could be the forms though, will ask my gym mates to keep a better lookout if I'm doing anything wrong still biggrin.gif.

Shall be looking out for the products you recommended, need to do my own research on this myself before buying it. tyvm biggrin.gif you've been a great help!

edit: oh yeah, wont be so anal to get to 10 reps anymore then, haha.
