Since I see so-so-so many threads about asking which console is better, i guess we should create a thread that discuss all 3 consoles togethre under one roof.

First start off with its price.

Average GameCube should not cost then RM450 since US retail price is only USD$99

Average Playstation 2 (PS2) should cost not more then RM850

Average XBOX should cost not more then RM850. When getting XBOX, they come in a different so called package. I guess it is a gimick from Microsoft.

The standard package come with 1 orginal controller and the console is in black color. The package should cost not more then RM750

Then Microsoft also release White Crystal Edition where you will get 2 controller in trasparent white color and of course, the console also in trasparent white color. This package should not cost more then RM850

Some package also come with 1 or 3 free orginal games like Tetris online (and some other not so popular games. Sorry, i forgot those games title... )

i guess it have a lots to write about all this 3 games console. Maybe i think i should let other members help me out and please correct me if i am wrong.

My fave is ps2 cos i'm an rpg fan....
Gamecube ranks 2nd for me as it gives us more relaxing games.Usually relax with it after a tedious rpg from ps2.

My fav is XBOX. Best console graphics, unbeatable sound(DD5.1 rocks!), has most of the good games and some great exclusive. Oh..of course, the flexibility of the XBOX ...also doubles as my living room media centre with a network to my PC and internet.

It's so cool to share photos album on the big TV with friends and family in the living room!!

I own a GC, and the games are great! The mechanics for Multiplayer Crystal Chron is an experience not to be missed.

But at heart I'm an RPG addict and I miss stuff like Shadow Hearts, FFX, and Kingdom Heart. Not to mention Katamari Damacy (not RPG but something wholly different). I still have to say that PS2 would not have been bad for me either.

I only trust scores from gamespot.com

Anyway, i don't agree it doesn't have "most" good games. In fact, the best version of 99% multiplatform games is on the XBOX. Soul Calibur 2,Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, BurnOut 3, NFS:UG, LOTR etc etc. What else isn't there?? Cross platform games are best played on XBOX anyway. DD5.1 - no competition!

there's some great exclusive PS2 series, but not too many, namely, DMC,FFX,Omnimusha,Viewtiful Joe which I enjoyed.

Also, the XBOX doesn't have too many exclusive, but most of the exclusive are pretty enjoyable...Ninja Gaiden, Crimson Skies, PDO, Fable, KOTOR, DOA series etc.(except HALO...yeah..i hate HALO...oops...better run for cover from Private John...LOL)

Quality is more important than quantity. I don't have time to play so many games anyway. I'll rather use it on some really good games.

I've never gotten to play GC except the other 2 consoles. I own a PS2 and i'm still thinkin about the Xbox.

PS2 has great games library and yet it is still one of the pioneers in consoles. Too bad it has limited VRAM and on board RAM. If only they would've pump out 8 MB of VRAM at least, it'll be l33t

Xbox...planning to get one coz i want it to be my media centre also. Imagine playing games at higher quality, with 5.1 surround, watching videos/animes streamed from my pc. *drool*. This black box also has its own exclusive which i find it very very tempting for me to buy.

Game library wise, I am going with Ps2,GCN then Xbox, but in terms of usage, I use my Xbox,PS2 then GCN , Xbox doubles up as my media centre,so far I can't complain , since I play them all.

Whether it has lots of exclusive game it depends on you. If they are tons of exclusive games for A console but it's not your cup of tea, it's not that "exclusive" anyway.

xbox is very bulky and heavy.

It's hard and perhaps not fair for me to rate which console is better.
Therefore, I'll put a simple guideline of choosing a console according to the
enthusiast level of the owner.

So, ask yourself, are you a console gaming enthusiast, how much
interest do you have in Console gaming?

High : You might want all three
Medium: PS2 and maybe XBOX
Low : probably PS2

Here's why...

PS2, owing to the vast library of games that cater to old and young has a wider appeal. The standard console case is also the most TV shelf friendly. Not the greatest in terms of hardware horsepower, but good games like GT4, MGS3 and
DMC makes it worth the while. So, PS2 is definitely for the casual gamer.

Xbox, once considered a very specialized console with very little market. It is actually gained a lot in popularity in the last two years.
I remember it used to be very difficult to get Xbox games.
Games selection, largely catered for older audiences, very few kiddy
looking games. So, parents can't actually say that they are buying it
for their kids.

The standard box actually looks like a hulk of the three but if you are interested and have the time, you can do quite a variety of things with it.
Eg. modding it with a bigger HDD, attaching it to the LAN using a wireless-G card and setting it up as a competent media center to play some of the downloaded media content from the internet. Others have case-modded it to look nicer and more at home with other entertainment peripherals.

A lot of the games also come with high-def 720 progression display, showing some
of the nicest looking graphics on your high-def or enhanced definition TV, by using the high-def AV pack.

So, if you are a gaming enthusiast willing to spend some time tweaking your
box, you'll get a lot from here. In the hands of a casual gamer, unfortunately, the xbox's full potential will not be realised.

As for GC, I don't own one but always wanted to get one but couldn't justify having a third console. So, I can't speak from personal experience.

GC, a quality platform, with a hardware spec that is higher than PS2. However the limited library of games (even though of great quality) means that it is definitely for fans of the games such as Metroid Prime, Zelda, Mario and RE4.

You are definitely either a console gaming enthusiast(which quite likely that you own a PS2 and/or XBOX) or a loyal Nintendo-specialist and fan.

There you go, each console has its target users and fans. Whatever you buy, just make sure you can find the time to enjoy it.

Ps2 games lesser blood and gore, western game....blood & gore everywhere, even games that look like for kids, cute big head suddenly the head explode and gore fly everywhere.

Anyway about your interest level, i do not agree with all.

High : ya, all three.
Medium : ps2 or xbox or gc depends on your interest.
Low : ps2 or xbox...not really just ps2 'coz i think with all the exclusive, mostly ps2 game require long hour of gaming which is not really for normal gamer. RPG? These category of gamer are basically into sports game only.

R&C series, Sly Cooper series... ICO.. Gran Turismo series.. Fighting game... tekken series.. virtua Fighter.. alot more capcom's 2D figthing games..

Why xbox user and ps2 can't get along...(make it an exception to mutsumi san the ps2 whore).
On top of that, me and him play halo 2 together.
It's just personal preference...why everybody just couldn't believe in that?

final fantasy series, dragon warrior, kingdom hearts--->not everybody like jap style of rpg, some find the walking style, fighting system annoying like me. Like FFX 2...go figure ( no offense to ff's fan)
All those slg robot game etc, it takes so long just to finish 1 round...i am spending my whole life just for that one game.

Do you even play NHL? NO, the score so high...why don't you play it? It's FUN, read the score. Get what i mean? Zelda, top ranking game...why not everybody play it? Reason, some people are willing to let it go and go for something else on other console.

Agingamer post is the best so far. Prazole are way too ps2 supporter, eventhough i am xbox supporter i don't have bias opinion on ps2 other than their hardware spec.

One more thing, not all cross platform games are release on pc. Mostly are console only. If it's that many, nobody gona get console anymore.

I'm getting an Xbox soon. The reason is that I'm actually have more preference towards FPS gaming & racing. Seeing that Halo series really interests me a lot & other games too like Forza Motorsport( hope this will give GT4 a good fight, along with Enthusia) & others.

It's the GAMES that got my attention, not the hardware spec uberness or anything. So, after this I'll be a multi-console owner wuhoo!

2 years of PS2 ... I think I'm gonna try a new system now(Xbox), just like Sakaguchi-san of the FF producer that decides to joins Micro$oft. FF series on Xbox2 definitely gonna be something.

IMO, this sort of topic only act as a catalyst for fanboy nationalism to flare up whenever opportunity knocks. If you really have to be a fanboy of something, be a fan of the games. Go where the games go. People defending a particular console are just those who either narrow minded and close their minds towards other options or those who are unfortunate to buy one and only one console and had to justify their decision of buying that particular console by defending it to kingdom come.I applaud Zaryl for his stand in this, he goes where the games go, and not because the Xbox b****slaps the other two consoles with its supposed better specs. If we want to get into this kind of argument then my gaming rig spanks all my other three consoles into submission.

Go where the games are. Sakaguchii-san left SquareEnix for Xbox2 with his Mistwalker company, if he decides that the next FF goes to Xbox2, then im there. If the creative team in SquareEnix owns the rights to FF and sticks the next FF to PS3, im there too. If SquareEnix decides the unimaginable and sticks the next-gen FF to Revolutions, i'll be buying it in an instant. The point here is, go where the games are.

But also, just because the games you want mosts generally resides more on your preferred console, does not mean that other consoles does not have its advantages. You'll never see ICO, Wanda and the Colossus, Tekken series and others on consoles other than the PS2. Dont go belittling the games by proclaiming them "not nice", " inferior to <insert game here>", just because it is on other console without trying them out EXTENSIVELY *keyword EXTENSIVELY*. You are missing a whole lot of enriching diversified gaming goodness if you narrow it down your gaming ways, and the more you do this, the more you entrench yourself into your own priivate world where your console is king and the rest of the other offerings on other available consoles sucks.Just because you play DOA extensively, does not automatically make Virtua Fighter or Tekken inferior. They all have their strengths , and if you ask me, if you could cultivate a liking to as many diverse game titles/genres , you will be living a very enriching and filling gaming life.

How would you know F-Zero is not for you unless you tried it? How would know an FPS game on console like Halo would be enjoyable and playable unless you try it?You cannot dismiss Katamari Damacy as hogwash unless you have explored the concept. It is premature to proclaim DOA as an "an end to end all fighter debate" fighter of choice unless you have tried extensively the other major available fighter series on other system as well. We are blessed with screenshots and gameplay video downloads with the age of the Internet, but these downloads are not a definitive means of determining if the game is enjoyable or not. You can have the most gorgeous looking racer or fighter like Wreckless or TaoFeng , but they sorely lack in depth and gameplay mechanics. But lack of graphical polish can also dampens the excitement of playing a game, example Ridge Racer DS vs Ridge Racer PSP.

Simply put, be a fanboy of the games, not the console. You have not enjoyed the entire spectrum of what "gaming" is until you have tasted what others have to offer.This also corrensponds to your ability to be the judge of what's good and what's not, coz unless you have tried all there is available, you cannot make qualified , sound judgements on what you are doing. Graphics means jack shit unless accompanied with deep gameplays. Gameplay can only save your game so much unless accompanied with polished presentation and graphical splendour.

its always cheaper cuz the hardware is less expensive compared to xbox..
ps2 is selling IMO around the same price as xbox... not that worthwhile, hardware wise *hardware* cuz the technology in ps2 is a year older than both xbox n GC plus is doesnt come with harddisk n stuff..
but sony knows they have what gamers wants.. so they are selling at higher price..

I just lost my game in dota 'coz i keep alt tab to post with you. Now i finish my game, i can do some searching around. Scroll down to the bottom, you will see the number. Remember...sony & nintendo set foot earlier than msoft in console world. They have a strong base. Now xbox sales surpass gamecube, does this means gamecube is a lousy console like how you put it since you follow the ranking so much or it's because xbox got hold of some new audience. You read the news also know nintendo having some trouble with their console sales. Do i really need to do all the google for you?

Sales figure, games rating online etc doesn't makes that gaming console sux. It's your own personal preference.

Finally you have proven all the point i am trying to tell you.

Game rating and sales figure doesn't make up for the games quality.
Xbox solds more than gamecube 'coz they are still peoples who prefer xbox games over ps2 or gamecube. Still it doesn't mean gamecube sux.

If game ranking system are so reliable why the sales figure still show xbox solds more than gamecube? Why they are still lots of people go for xbox when they know gamecube and ps2 have better games? Their country have no advertisement for ps2 and gamecube?

Simple answer.

Game ranking site review the games, not by comparing 3 consoles. Game site/magazine don't review a game based on the console, like devil may cry should get higher score because it's on ps2, it's because it's a good game for that particular genre and on that console. This doesn't mean everybody love that genre. Get it? Make it an exeption to cross platform game, they might review it based on console.

Well, i should blame you for the lost in dota game though but not the stress.

prazole and PrivateJohn, is it really necessary to continue arguing on this subject? Like someone said earlier, different consoles appeal to different masses and thus the sales should reflect that.

stringfellow: Yes, I know this is like a fanboy magnet/catalyst/inciter/batu api, but at least there's only ONE thread now for it and its much easier to regulate.

It's not just me & prazole, stringfellow as well but it's all settled in my thread already.

The Good:People buying consoles to play games (a concept some has yet to grasp).
The Bad: People dismissing other games/consoles as bad because they had made their console purchases and commit to it, without actually TRYING the games they so easily dismiss beforehand.
The Ulgy( spelling intended that way, see the thread title ): Fanboys who had to go defensive on their console purchases just because they can only afford one console, and only one.Fanboys of these types subconsciously shuts out other alternatives on other consoles just because (a) they cannot commit to another console, (b)they dont make an effort of trying other games or competing series of the same genre on other consoles or ©they lack understanding and experience in what's going on in the gaming scene or just plain shephered as sheeps, following the crowd.

Disclaimer:These statements are not targetted specifically to anyone here, it is just my general overview of what the gaming crowd had turned into when gaming went mainstream. Fanboys has been in existence since the days of SNES/Genesis , but in diminutive form, and they are overshadowed by the larger numbers of good, sincere gamers at that time.Ever since gaming has becomed accepted as mainstream hobby, the crowd has evolved from those who goes into this hobby for the pure innocent joys of gaming, to those who had gone into this hobby with secret hopes that their console of choice triumphed over the others and kill off competition.Monopoly breeds uniformity and uniformity kills creativity.

You know ...the people who often calls other fanboys are usually the biggest fanboy themselves....action speaks louder than words.

Funny thing is, some of these fanboys are actually fans of the games themselves, otherwise they wouldnt be gaming on the three major consoles, unlike others who shuts themselves out of other consoles or in denial that there might be other games that are better than on their current consoles.

Which is a more possible fanboy, the one who game on one console or the ones who game on all three.At least the one who game on all three consoles, had seen what the other consoles have to offer, had broader view on the gaming scene and is more informed on what games are better since they had seen all the gamess offered on all fronts.

But then, it's easier on the mind of some people to slap the label "fanboy", than actually reading between the lines.Maybe the tunneling program of their choice on their Xboxes had tunnel-visioned their mindset on things too.....

Game on all 3 consoles are not your life. You can't actually finish all the game even you, you can't say other don't know a single thing while you know almost everything. That's when gaming site, magazine review come in. That's the purpose of gaming review website/mag. We buy something we think which suit us best.

What kind of music you are listening to now? Rock?Jazz?Pop? You like heavy metal? Pop suck? Have you listen to all the pop song from all over the world? No, so everybody are suppose to listen to every single pop song available to understand whether pop song are for them is it? It's just like the gaming world.
Stop giving remark like you are perfect for once for chris sake.

Did you even finish all the game on all 3 consoles? If you do, that must be sad 'coz you spend your 24 hours on all 3 consoles. If you can't, you are not qualify to say you know every single aspect of the gaming world nowadays. Just xbox games itself i having hard time to finish it all, with pc games...and some of the ps2 title.
You favor psp over ds and having argument with other ds fanboy there. Does that not make you a fanboy? Everybody is a fanboy to something.

Ya it's the same manner but i own most of the famous ps2 games because my brother love ps2. I can take screenshot if you want.
I got your point but what i just telling you is ps2 have a great library of certain genre if you into it otherwise ya should go for something else.
Notes : I never jump into conclusion ps2 have no great games at all. It's different genre you will find in each unique console.

Like pop song, boy bands gain popularity, go to tower records 7 out of 10 are pop song. Boyband are extremely famous in asia region. Still some might go for jazz, rock, trance. Not everybody gona like justin timberlake eventhough his record are like mad. You can find 10 great pop song among po world, 3 great classic music doesn't mean one have no choice but to hop in world of pop song. Some likes all as long as it sounds good to them.

BTW, your last post abit too much...might create more disaster in this flame war. Everybody who is involve in this flame war knows their own mistake, each of us actually are contributing to the flame war. Wow, some of you are trying really hard to flame others without looking like it. I mean really... Sideways attacks will only get pass the most dim-witted of opponents and unfortunately many here aren't in that category.

Can we please stop talking about semantics and just go back to discussing the merits of each console INDIVIDUALLY? For the benefit of the doubt, just assume that everyone only owns ONE console... Seeing as ppl with more than one console will (Duh!) have that ONE console anyway, I suppose its the easier middle ground compared to forcing everyone to assume talk in the context of all 3 consoles which is ludicrous for the average joe (Or Ali, Ah Meng, Muthu or whatever)

I try, and yet backlog asides , id like to think that i have dabbled in those three major consoles enough to form an weighted and intelligent surmization of them.Dont easily assume others are like you, weighted down by works most.Same here, but guess what, i bring my consoles with me everytime i go on my worktrips, and these helps clearing the backlogs. Nothing to be ashamed of, nor does your presumption that those who game on three consoles doesnt have a life outside of a console world. Id like not to assume your day-by-day itinerary, and id appreciate if you dont slap your presumption that my daily life mirrors yours.

So much for the analogies and knickknacks, that is still bypassing the issue that you refuse to try what other consoles have to offer , by using that excuse that you buy something that suits you best. You dont HAVE to buy one, you only need to hang out with those who have one.Try it, you might get a different perspective when you hang out with those who are outside your familiar territory.Since you like analogies, i'll use one now.It's like stepping out of your house, grabbing a seat on a plane to Amsterdam, and realised that there is more to that particular city than tulips. It broadens one's horizons and view of things once one is exposed to such experiences.



Yes, i favor the PSP over the DS, but that is after i have tasted what both consoles have before i come to that conclusion. I tried Feel the Magic, MArio DS, and WarioWare on the DS, and got myself almost 10 games for the PSP, AND THEN i made the conclusion that favor the PSP over the DS. Does that not make the argument more valid, because i have tried my hands on all of them? If you must label me as a fanboy, then yes , im more inclined towards the PSP than the DS with the current available lineup, but i will never make or form a conclusion unless i have tried all there is to offer on both sides of the competing parties. The sad and ironic thing is, the other person i debated with, Pip-X, have not even have either a DS or the PSP, and he is arguing for the sake of his nostalgia for Nintendo! How's that for a fair and justful debate?

And to that particular person who tried so hard to form his articulation that could be his best attempt at licking someone's a$$(Matrix), you need to try harder.Your stand in here, only shows how you sorely lack in having your own stand in things. If that's the case i am no difference from you. I own ps2 and xbox. I played devil may cry, final fantasy, gt series, suikoden, getaway, killzone, omnimusha and some slg game. Most of it i didn't finish it, i just let my brother play after awhile. I even list out some of my favourite ps2 games in an old thread. Is that an assumption like you accuse people of? So don't make it an excuse an if you are doing the same thing by giving assumption out of other people. You did your part in contributing to this flamewar like any of us.

First you trying to imply one must own 3 console to have better perspective of the gaming world (which is correct), but now you are saying something else like what i mentioned above.

It's true try it only you know but those are for people who have misleading thought on certain games like A console suck because he doesn't even own one. Still, people who doesn't own anything yet will go through survey and review to get something best for themselves. Otherwise, there is no point for gaming review and advertisement nowadays.

If i am making an assumption out of an xbox user, then perhaps i am the only guy in this world who bought xbox for that. Sidenote, I didn't even mention about all the xbox user in this world buy xbox because they are like me. So it's your own assumption.

If what i said so far are false and just assumption, maybe other bought xbox for jap rpg Final Fantasy, PS2 for first person shooter HALO 2, gamecube for strategy game Command & Conquer. Since i don't own a gamecube, given the fact that all the info from gaming media are not very accurate and my experience on ps2 & xbox doesn't help.

I have seen threads like this on other forums and it never cease to amaze me how much anger it stirs up every time. It's always controversial.

All it needs now is someone to post and say PC is better than consoles for gaming.


Bear in mind, that if someone dislikes a particular console, it is just the console
he/she dislikes. Not you. No discredit to the choices that you have made.
No need to feel personal and defend your position.
You made your decision to own specific console(s) based on your own reasons.
No need others to agree or validate it.
Just enjoy what you have.

The forum should be a place for people with similar interests to share information, tips and help each other out. Debates should be encouraged but not arguments that lead into personal attacks. Disagreements are fine but no 'fighting'/flaming should be tolerated.

Moderator(s) if there are no further constructive discussions on this, I think we should close this thread and move on...

and i tought the reason this thread got red icon is beacause more and more reviews from other consoles .purpose for this thread is to introduce the newbies for different type of consoles. now become flame wars again. this thread should be on a natural ground for all three major console. right now i only see flame flame flame flame. whats wrong with gamers nowadays? everyone is waiting like hunting dogs to see anyone makes a mistake. one flaw then boom. chasing and biting all the way. then theres the cheering team who puts petrol and light fire.

Maybe you should try stepping out of this air bubble you're living in and see what kind of person you have become in this thread.

Back to the topic, I chose PS2, GC and XBOX because i have no choice but get them when i wanted to play games on them. I got my first GC when i was giddy for some Star Wars:Rogue Leader action, , got my first Xbox after seeing how beautiful DOA3 was at the time of its release, while my first PS2 was the 10000 series, along with Ridge Racer V a week after the Japanese launch.

GC starts getting interesting when Eternal Darkness came out.At first wasnt sure if it is a hit or a miss, since it was published by Silicon Knights, and the only thing that crosses my mind when SK is mentioned is the Legend of Kain series. Got into conversation with Silkworm, and convinced me over for the purchases and laughed my butt off for even worrying. It is then i think GC is worth a shot.

Xbox was bought with a bundle in mind.Initially was just interested to get only DOA3, but at the time of purchase , the shops werent able to un-bundle and sell me DOA3 only. Got 7 other games and paid quite a hefty sum for it, which is at the time, was not available for modification. The moment i start seeing its potential, is when Panzer Dragoon Orta and Jet Set Radio Future was released, and they were lightyears graphically compared to the offerings from the other consoles. The graphic whore in me was thoroughly satisfied, and with Sega fresh from its decision to go developer-only, provided the goods with their awesome Xbox offerings. Dabbled immediately with the progressive scan capabilities when MS launched the HD Pack, and i will always remember my first experience seeing Panzer Dragoon Orta in beautiful HD.

PS2 and me had a very long relationship.I was at the point of going crazy with anticipation with news and articles pouring out from newspapers, mass medias like CNN and CNBC(programs like E! and other tech-related shows, there arent any TechTV channel at that time, circa 2000) pumping out an almost daily mention about the PS2 leading up to its Japanese 3/4/2000 release. Went teary eyed(both in awe, and horror) when saw the crazy crowd congregating when the clock stroke launch night.Awe coz i didnt know the response would be THAT immense, and horrified calculating my chances of securing one for myself, at such close time to launch day. Got a call from Sunway Piramid, and to make long story short, i got the unit meant as display unit, and begged them to sell that, as premium price. My living room has never been the same again sinc then. The moment i realised PS2 was destined for greatness is when Tekken Tag, Devil May Cry and FFX was released.

In short, it is the games that compelled me to make the decision of getting a console. It does not matter to me if it moddable, although if it is, then it's a bonus. My jaws went slack when i saw SoulCalibur on Dreamcast for the first time, and that vision was compelling enough to make me splurge. But i was excited to when they released the first GD-ROM silvers in the form of DOA2, with that swap disc.

It makes no difference by changing your sig to that and flaming another guy like that...directly. I think now matrix and prazole need to cool down.

As a matter of fact i find the debate kinda fun, it keeps me up during the night. Oh well...

Now as for me, i am a pure pc gamer since dune 2 (my first pc game). When i am kiddo i only play some nintendo games at my cousin house etc, never really own one.

Until the day my brother bought a ps2 (by telling my mother it's a home entertainment system! we didn't buy to play games only but to play movie & music...erm...you know we are bluffing.)

I watch my brother play some of the game, i play some of it. I find most of the game require long hour of playing. I found some of my favourites like suikoden, killzone, getaway. Some i didn't manage to play but think it's good are dark cloud 2, dothack etc but then game like final fantasy, omnimusha, slg type game doesn't appeal to me.
I don't fancy perfect look & way too sexy babe/guy in some sexy costume (or japanese fasyion) as game character and the animation turns me off ( example ffx - 2, when they run/walk and dance to kill enemy).
Slg game used to be my favourite when i was young until my friend play the robot games everyday and the process is like not much there. It makes me have some kind of slg-phobia. I am not much of a fan for fighting/sports game unless it's a house party etc then i will give it an exception.

Only then i realise i prefer western game over japanese game. I think all of these explain why i seldom play ninja gaiden, doa & sudeki on my xbox. One of my favourite japanese game on xbox is phantom dust. I must say it's very creative and very competitive as well if you have friend who actually play it. What kind of xbox games i play? The post is getting too long...so you can just browse through my thread for more info. Before i end this, i must say one thing that japanese developer have an edge over the western developer are their CG making skills. No doubt about their cg, most of it are top notch. As for western developer are their skill in making multiplayer games.

Lastly, i think that's how xbox got hold of its new market. People like me...in between pc & console.

i personally feel.. japanese game makers are more creative and artistic..
they can create a new series of game and still the ideas are so fresh and new..
eg are like ICO, Animal Crossing, Katamari Damacy, DOA:VBX, MGS3 with those new hunting for food and self healing thingy...

western game juz revolve around FPS, Comand & conquer type strategy...
yes, now and then they upgrade the graphics and then new weapon and AI, usually with a slap in bad storyline... with really dissapointing endings...
..and a whole bunch of EA sports game that comes out every year without fail..
feels more like making money over making games as passion...
however there are really good games once in a while like HL2, with the gravity gun.. pure fun!

also im a big fan of fighting games.. and japanese make better fighting games than the western.. eg capcom's street fighter both 2d and 3d.. or snk's kof.. tekken.. virtua fighter..
the few western made fighting game i can remember now is maybe killer instinct and mortal kombat.. both.. gory at their extreme.. not my cup of tea..

still im all open to any good games any platform.. i say bring it on..

With different fishing rod comes with different power.

Some might find their new creation lovely, some might find it...ya know.
Forgot to add, animation fan should definitely go for ps2. It's the homeland for japanese anime.
PS2 also target at broader audience (any age)...xbox mostly teen above.
As for action game western developer aren't that bad afterall.

You are right, sudeki are done by Uk developer, ain't no japs. in an attempt to break into japanese market.

BTW...my favourite webcomic Ctrl-Alt-Del. Just like a warning sign for all of us.

dreamcast- the humblest of all, died to soon due to sony's agressive marketing strategy..

Dreamcast sucks!!! Bought it for 3 months and then SEGA pull the life support system from it!!! Worst RM800 i ever spent!!

是FC与PS1，说实话从PS1的时代走过来PS2一直是我最想得到的东西，在刚拿到PS2的时

候我简直要疯狂掉了。因为对游戏的这份狂热，我开了一家属于自己的电玩店，虽然规模

不大但总算完成了自己的一个梦想。起初我主要是以卖PS2为主，时间大概是在02和03年

吧，因为那段期间的PS2对与我们生意人来说其优点是+IC芯片较为成熟、软件众多、知

名度高、质量好。也许是因为地理位置的关系，我们这个地方更多的客人是以开类似与网

吧经营方式的电视游戏吧为主！但同时也存在一个弊端，因为游戏吧24小时的营业、以及

散装光盘碟对光头的长期影响，使以PS2为主的游戏设备都没有太长的使用寿命。维修、更换

光头、更换原装手柄对这些大多以下岗工人经营的游戏吧而言是一个极大负担。最大的欣

慰就是从18000型到39001型的PS2质量都还算很硬，但是到了5xxxx型系列以后，因为有

烧机的危险加之游戏吧的长时间使用，这个问题也就更大了。说句玩笑话，我碰到过一台

50006型连续烧机达4次之多，当然我也绝对在开始就加装过免烧驱动IC的！也许看到这里

会有玩家反驳说"怎么我买的5xxxx系列的机子玩了这么久都还没事？"，不是每台PS2都会

烧机，而我只想说的是开店到现在我卖出去的上百台XBOX的硬件返修率为零！

因为以上种种的原因，我开始把目光投向了冷宫中的XBOX。听说了EVOX系统后，我

开始在一些技术性较强的网站学习。工夫不负有心人，XBOX的硬件维修、EVOX系统的安

装、常用外部软件的安装使用、完美更换非官方硬盘及光驱、硬盘游戏中文菜单列表、软

件+IC........已全部掌握（相信本论坛有不少朋友更厉害）。带着这些东西，我想对我的

客人来说应该是有很大的利处的。起码对光头的损耗就小了，这个我相信本论坛的朋友应

该不用我多说了吧。

但是也碰到了新的问题：XBOX软件数目太少以及客人认为的大作较少、手柄不适应

等问题！跟你们说吧我们这里的玩家喜欢些什么呢：魔鬼电单车、真三国系列、数码宝

贝、实况系列、侠盗猎车系列、火影、龙珠Z。其实这些游戏XBOX上基本上都有了，连

XBOX的实况也开始有高人在汉化了。但是在我们这，忍龙就是敌不过鬼武者3，生或死系

列就是赢不了火影系列，光环系列------更是无人问津！就算是同一个游戏，XBOX也会被

玩家以不习惯其手柄等理由给否决掉。其原因--至今为止我还是搞不清楚，也许是PS2

太根深蒂固了吧，多数的PS2玩家都不太愿意去接受XBOX，这又是受了怎样的误导呢？

真的很苦恼啊！

对于这些问题，我也问过身边的很多人，他们大多数说的原因就是PS2的游戏性强！

而当我反问他们，"如果对于一个从没有接触过游戏的人，给他个FC的游戏，再给他一个

次世代画面级别的垃圾游戏，你们会如何选择？"答案是--次世代的垃圾游戏。这或许不

是唯一的选择，但这应该是大多数人的意见 。有次我在做客户访问的时候，曾听到围观的

人说到"谁会去买XBOX啊？有本杂志上说PS2才是全世界最强的家用游戏平台.."，唉~~~

他起码知道这些东西叫"家用游戏平台"。至于手柄的问题，从目前的情况看来不光是弄个

转接器就能解决的了，因为它毕竟还得另外花钱啊~不过起码我觉得XB的手柄实在是不

差，美版的我更当是宝贝，呵呵~~个人喜好问题啊。

今天看了"终与明白UCG对XB的介绍为何这么肤浅了。"这个帖子，这句"唯一不满的

是片头动画，因为是美式风格的。。。。"，果然说的太xxxx了，也许正是因为这样的话，

影响了一些玩家的选择吧...

XBOX的种种附加功能和目前霸主的游戏画面同时也使得我自己更加的喜欢她！PS2

我现在基本不玩了，一般是用来给客人试碟，不蛮大家说最新的GT4、鬼泣3、真354、合

金装备3....我就硬是没碰到（呵呵~~~只是个人喜好不同而已，PS2的玩家别误会~）。

因为他们的画面说句老实话我真的玩不下，勉强的说2004年我玩过的唯一一个PS2游戏就

皇牌4。本店的名字叫POPTOOL电玩总汇，今后的打算不会改变，我仍然会主要向客人推

荐购买XBOX，当然PS2也是会做的，只能尽量在+IC焊接以及IC选择上做的细致一些

了，最近出了50009的+IC芯片，我这里也卖了几台了，客人使用时间还不长，情况还不

能确定，希望它能取代过去质量好的18和39系列，这样玩家也就能买到质量好的主机了。

我是个电玩迷，还是很超级的那种，同时也是个电玩BOSS，艰苦并快乐着.........

He is right about people opinion on xbox. Alot never really try it and condem the machine already.
Some own it but they only play xbox japanese game that's why they don't really like xbox. (obviously ps2 have more jap game)

How about some who actually tried Xbox , but found that there are mostly ports of PC games which plays better and looks better on the PC?Im this kind of Xbox owner, which i dont find investing in another title which is readily available on the PC and looks better not worth getting. And im not into anything like Battlefield/Brothers in Arms kind of game which I still dont get even if it is available on PS2.

It's easy really, MS is trying to bring the PC-experience to the console scene with these ports, but consoles have always been and will always will be a "jump in and play" platform. If you like modding your Xbox, whether software-like or physically, you are basically still in the PC-modding mentality, in which most console gamers are not into and are alien to them.They are used to "plug this in and it works straightaway", not complications.

In the end, choose the games of your preference and go to the consoles in which the games resides. But in the case of Xbox, im not getting Doom3 on Xbox as i had the better looking and prior experience with the PC version. Only games that are exclusive and available on Xbox interests me, which is why Ninja Gaiden and DOA:U is high on Xbox most wanted list. Upcoming games? Unreal Championship 2, and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory are the only ones im interested in, with SC mostly because it is available first on Xbox.If it appears on PC first, i would have skipped it altogether in favor of the better looking PC version.

P/S:This post was proofreaded and carefully written as to not offend anyone who hold their Xboxes dear to their hearts, as we all know how console factioning and overpassionateness towards certain consoles here are known to be quite evident in here.

Ya but you miss out few points.
First by asking you one question. What's your pc graphics card. Mine is 9800 only and the grahpic is pretty much the same if pc are tweaked to play smoothly. Unless you wana have higher resolution, anti alliasing max out etc and have a lag game.
You will only have better graphic if you have 6800 and above, but sadly i can't afford that.

Second, xbox are not just about Battlefield/Brothers in Arms. For what type of western games...just go in the xbox introduction thread as it has been repeat over and over again. Those ported game does look as good as pc with normal gfx but ps2 version are not.
BTW, i believed xbox player get doom 3 are for its coop gameplay. My roommate is waiting anxiously to play doom 3 coop with me 'coz he hasn't finish it on pc.
As you can see western developer are mostly developing games for PC. Japanese 95% on ps2 but nothing much on pc, just look at how many japanese pc games developer out there.
So it's normal to have this thought of xbox are just pc ported game.

Third, xbox is pretty much plug and play. Modding are simply to bring your console experience to next level.

Conclusion?
Xbox to play multiplatform game, pc ported game, and xbox exclusive game. Modding for media center is optional.

Ps2 are for japanese famous title-big library of rpg game...need more to say?
I don't think getting ps2 for pc ported game would be a good idea.
Sports game are easily available on cross platform.

If you like all of the console A games, you wouldn't have time for other console and vice versa. If you are the picky type,
certainly you are the rich one and only play the few titles on one console then move on to another.

In order to get a better picture of my thought, just head to most of the forum populated with xbox user, i believed it's pretty much the same. To help you even more in understanding what i am trying to say, the type of game like in ps2 - god of war, killzone...ya these titles gain lots of attention from me.

Playing 3 types of games in one machine is what make xbox a selling point.
Prove that i am wrong.

OT : head to Teamxbox for interview about japanese developer having hard time publishing international game and complain microsoft lack of effort in marketing xbox in japan or something.

I love both my PS2 and the Xbox. Both are the awesomeness. I dunno, but it is hard for me to compare them both coz i love them both soooooo much. It is hard to part from them when PS3 and Xbox360 comes out, just like my precious N64 and Dreamcast. You know what they say, the PS2 and the Xbox is like a Madonna concert while the N64 and Dreamcast is the opening act (maybe Britney Spears). Sure, u buy the ticket to watch Madonna girate on stage, but in the end, you want Britney back on stage, u know what i mean?

I dont have Gamecube. Well, i have one before, but sold it off to this thread starter (thanx again for that). I dunno what i would do if i still have that door stopper. Not insulting Nintendo here, i think the GC is not up to MY standard. <-- See how i emphasize the word MY there? Coz its MY standard. So nintendo fanboy please, BACK OFF!

To answer PJ's question, i got X800XTPE and 6800U for both of my gaming rigs at home.I guess that answers a few questions.

Still, i got myself and Xbox for games like DOA, Pander Dragoon Orta and Jet Set Radio Future.I didnt get them for PC ports.They play much better at better resolution and graphics on my PC gaming rigs.

I dont play sports games, so getting the best version on Xbox is a moot point for me. Cross platform games cases are a bit trickier.I've always havea beef with the Xbox controller, even with the smaller S Controller, i still develop cramped hands after extended periods of time. Not so wtih DS2 on PS2.This have somewhat swayed my interest in getting PS2 versions of crossplatform games rather than Xbox.

Still, Xbox360 has caught itself under my interest radar, with its promise of the HD Era.But people has got to kidding themselves when they say PS3 wont have the edge next gen in terms of processing power and graphical capabilities. The Xbox was released mor than a year later than Xbox with much more power under the hood compared to Xbox, and MS just want a head start next gen to emulate PS2's current success next gen.PS3 will be released projected fall 2006, which is 6-8 months later than XboxNExt, and discarding fanboy glasses while scrutinising this matter, it is simple logic to say that PS3 will have the edge in terms of power.Thinking otherwise would show your biasness towards XboxNExt, since the similar scenario is present in current gen.

Interesting isnt it? XboxNExt playiny the PS2 part (emphasis on game , not graphics), while PS3 takes the mantle for processing power(as do how Xbox fanboys were screaming how powerful this console is , compared to the other two consoles). Nintendo is a wildcard here, and i personally think playing the "i dont care what others are doing, i just want to be innovative with my gyroscopic controller and gimmicky doodads" part will not translate into larger userbase next gen if they dont break out of their cocoon and start creating mainstream games and attracting mainstream gamers..

That explained everything.

I thought next gen console, xbox2 will have an edge over the software part in graphics while ps3 is on the hardware and gamecube trying to create a new market 'coz they know they have no match to mainstream hardcore game in xbox2 & ps3. That's what i read from games industry site

So suddenly now Xbox2 will become the new PS2, while PS3 will take the role of Xbox this gen? How can MS suddenly gain so much third party support, while PS3 suddenly lose theirs?

Nothing is certain until these next gens are out and about.But rest for sure, PS3 still will have the third party support that makes PS2 such a market leader this gen. MS is going some catching up, and is making lost ground with its next gen Xbox2, which is why they plan to launch first, so that more third party devs will publish their titles on Xbox2 first because Xbox2 comes out of the gate first.

But then again, coming out of the gate first didnt help Dreamcast against the PS2 last gen.Moral of the story? Nothing is certain....one thing's for sure, i'll be getting next gen consoles , all of them if necessary, if the games i want to play are on them.

Erm what i meanst microsoft got is software advantage in coding for graphic etc. Not 3rd party support for games. If you head on to the link i gave you will get what i mean.

Ya but if you go through the news...sony are giving promise etc which is more subjective while microsoft have prototype demo etc. On top of that, SpeedTreeRT Integrated in u3 engine, unreal 3 engine, havoc physic etc implement on xbox 2. That's the point of it. I believe those are not hardware advantage, and through all the news you will find out ps 3 which has far more processing power compare to xbox2 which is...the hardware part we are debating about.

BTW, why are you getting scct for xbox but not pc? For me i am getting the ori for pc. Hopefully limited edition ( do you think msia have it?) and...ya-know-what for xbox.

BEcause the Xbox version plays on a controller? While the PC version, if you're stuck without a gamepad, is impossible to play on keyboards. If the game shines, i might get a PC controller myself.

I am thinking of getting an Xbox in Australia. The price of a "new" Xbox is around AUD 249 w/o any games. Then I saw got used/second hand Xbox selling for about AUD 149 , AUD 100 cheaper (RM 300 cheaper!). XBox games retail for AUD 99 (cost more than PC games) for new and about half price for 2nd hand, if got. I'm planning to buy one maybe in June (my b'day in June and that time after exams ) . Since I am keen to buy one, I wanna ask some questions:

1)If I were to buy a second hand one, what I should check and ask?
2)Can play Xbox live in M'sia?
3)If I ever want to mod it when I return to M'sia, can it be done and how much? , if so, will it make my Xbox cannot connect to Xbox live?
4)How much ori Xbox games cost in M,sia?
5)Got any different in Xboxes produced in different years? like if 1 is produced in 2002 and another in 2005?

I was hoping to get PSP as well, but then dunno when it will arrive in aus. Then again it will cost around AUD 499 . So better get PSP in M'sia when I get back.

before i decide to buy for one console among three of those console, i will think what game of it's will worth to me to play. so here it goes, i decide to own a ps2 as my console gaming at the moment. Why? because i am Square-Enix fan and the number of RPG game in one console. although in Gamecube have one of their title, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle, it's just one game for me if i get it. i might get it aswell, but i think better if i get the xbox since the releasing game ratio is like XBOX > Gamecube.
