if it is upscaled, then it still needs the same bandwidth as the real HD channel

I think astro will use some of the transponders from old measat 3 to transmits some of the HD channels
*
Thats right too, so then maybe complete HD could be just rumours ! hmm.gif

Like I said a dozen times before, If you think about it, it's just not practical to upscale SD to HD. Upscale HD means more bandwidth only on Astro's side and the picture may be no better than the decoder's own built-in upscaler. Couple that with the fact that there's no more than 2 dozen HD channels available in Asia region. Converting to DVB-S2 and H264 completely but maintaining current resolution, on the other hand, does have advantage of reducing bandwidth while improving PQ tremendously, meaning Astro can offer more channels and sharper picture because bandwidth reduce.

US sat providers like Dish and DirecTV charge customers for that function. Hope Astro doesn't.

It does not need to be raining at a location for it to be affected by rain, as the signal may pass through precipitation many miles away, as the dish has a look angle.

Yeah, hope so. Provided the decoder hardware has the capability to record & current astro max doesn't need to pay additional monthly fee, just need to update the firmware only. But we might not be able to record while watching other channel.

It probably worth recording if the contents are in HD. But SD does the magics sometimes.. notworthy.gif

MioTV:
- HD5
- Li
- We TV
- Sundance

Starhub:
- HD5
- Nat Geo HD
- Discovery HD
- History HD
- Sports HD
- ASN HD (the channel Astro Supersports HD is leaching off 99% of the time)
- HBO HD

Hmmm, looks like Singapore has no ESPN HD after all... Does this channel really exist or did Astro pull the name out of thin air?

Also, where's AXN HD? laugh.gif

Lets not cast too many expectations on ESPN HD it may not be as expected just Wait N See ! Astro assured ESPN HD but remember the schedule could be a surprise or could be a dissappointment. I guess the schedule terms is causing the delay .As it is we have Asian versions and now even malaysian versions so hold on please ! hmm.gif
