All new units for each race will be available in the beta along with the new multiplayer maps which ship with Retribution.

The beta is scheduled to go live on Monday,January 31st when global press and key Dawn of War® community members will be given access. Also, apparently, anyone who have DVD version of Dawn of War: Soulstorm can be activated on Steam too.

QUOTE
Retribution is still a P2P game. We do have a nice new tech out of Steamworks which is their NAT reflection server. If a connection to a player fails, then we will route through Valve's servers.

We've done tests internally where we start a match between two players, then block the IP connection between the two and the game continues gracefully. In theory it should mean any two people who can connect to Steam can connect to each other. I say in theory because there are certain problems which will require us to be in beta to truly test.

This should go a long way to improving connections between players. NAT problems are one of the contributing factors to poor connections and skill mismatches.

Retribution looks promising. No more GFWL, and replaced with a new Steamworks netcode. This might be the time where DoW2 start to shine, without GFWL ruining it, as we will get faster patching and better connectivity with Steamworks.

This is also the first step to Valve's DotA 2, as i expect DotA 2 will use similar system.

Too bad the IG wont be using much fortifications this time either. Like Cheesenium said before, its the Cadian regiment.
*
From previews, IG does seem to make tonnes fortifications like sand bags, bunker and turret. Not too bad for me, IMO.

IG looks more like general IG army this time as the distinctive Cadian Karskin is missing, replaced with Stormtroopers instead. Only Cadians use Karskin.

Would be nice if Relic do Elysians, though. Paratroopers of 40k for a change.

So this DoW2 is a steamwork only game or otherwise?

Deciding whether to go for the CE set or steam copy
*
It's a 100% steamworks game. No more GFWL.

Armageddon IG is Steel Legion. One of the regiments that love to use tanks the most in the lore.

so by what cheese dude say, The IGs regiments are like so:

Cadians - More to like Swat Teams or so
Elysians - are the airborne troops
??? - are the main army

what else are there in the IG army
*
It's just certain regiment have different style, such as:

Tallarn prefers Rough Riders, gay looking horses
Elysians prefers drop troops and aircraft
Cadians are more like the "generic" IG.
Steel Legion, if im not wrong, they are the tank heavy ones, because Armageddon is a Forge World.
Catachans are jungle based guerrilla warrior.

It's very hard to show in the game, hence, we get the "generic" IG in DoW2.

I know factions like Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines can vary insanely, like closed range lunatic army of Khrone to walking empty armor army of Tzeetch. IG isnt as insane as those 2.

Armageddon is a Hive World, not a Forge World. (Forge Worlds tend to be controlled by cogboys.)

Heh, "The Ancient" is probably our Force Commander. Or is it Tarkus? Gonna have to wait to find out.

Cant wait to try the Ogryns

....and it seems Gabriel Angelos wont be in the campaign. So no showdown with daemon prince then. Boo

THQ Community Day Details!

    Hey guys,
I'm sort of live from the THQ community event. Heres some details for you
    - We've been shown an exclusive plastic wax trailer in which Gabriel is standing against the armies of Chaos with two terminators, and features him charging a very large an familiar looking face of a daemon!
    - The campaign is indeed some of the same maps, but the way they play out is fundamentally different and scripted differently. We've seen very little of the campaign, but it's very enjoyable and the new campaign system means that all the heroes got a load of new skills. The amount of work put in is staggering - 15 skills for each of the four heroes for all 6 races. Lots of new art icons!
    - There are two new maps; Ashes of Typhon, which scales according to player size and White walls, which has been redesigned and moved into another game mode (3v3 I think?)
    - The music is definately more imperial sounding.
    - The new last stand map is infinately more difficult, its intended to be a "level up" from the original. I haven't played it myself, but Gorb, SwordMonkey and Bowkers have been putting in plenty of play time so they can report well.
    - Chat lobbies are definately in. They can have channels, and private channels for your steam group (DOES NOT MESH WITH THE ACTUAL STEAM GROUPS CHAT). The chat lobby appears in campaign and multiplayer menus, in the bottom left corner, and can be expanded to cover the whole screen.
    - Load screen has been redesigned
    - The automatcher now is based on ELO, and uses both placement matches and a "bonus point pool", which is "Rest". You can inflate your points very fast, but if you idle on the leaderboard, people can overtake you. The leaderboards themselves are similar to what they used to be.
    - There are approximately 50 steam achievements
    - There are two multiplayer hero skin changes - first, Diomoedes replaces Vanilla Ice. Second, the Warlock will now permenantly have horns to differentiate him from other warlocks.
    - Custom Badges are in.
    - The front end does not update with last played commander - it is the inquisitor. Time was limited, and this feature was discounted in favour of the huge campaign.
    - The army painter changes are limited to seeing a number of infantry models, but not vehicles; they clip off the army painter screen edge. On the subject of rank unlocks, when asked it was stated that the amount of time would of reduced other content (singleplayer). It is possible it may be added in future.
    - Guard and SM details: Baneblade has 4200 HP, costs 1000/200 and does not level. The Land raider has 3500 HP, costs 700/180. Leman Russ has exterminator and Vanquisher upgrades. I will udpate this with more explicit army details later!

Feel free to ask questions - I'll update this post, and post up the answers to the questions I collected when I'm hope (and gotten the answers! tongue.gif). I'm aware some of those are answered above.
There is a new cinematic in Retribution, against Gabriel's old friend.

Custom badges is in too. biggrin.gif

"Warlock will now permanently have horns to differentiate him from other warlocks" is probably the weirdest update for DoW2 yet
*
It is done to differentiate the hero Warlord with the Guardians Warlord.

Good decision, ,IMO.

Not really playing DoW2, as GFWL is a pain in the ass.Waiting for Retribution now.

In the mean time, im playing a special version of DoW1 with 11 race that add Steel Legions and Black Templars to the game.

Modded main menu.

Now showing 11 races in the race selection menu. The space marine shown is a Black Templar.

Baneblade and Stormblade. Stormblade is Mechanised Steel Legiong's Relic unit. Love the sound of the big cannon.

Attached Image

Leman Russ Vanquisher, or Tank Ace in Steel Legion. Thats one of my favourite Leman Russ variant. Vanquisher is also in DoW2's IG, as anti vehicle upgrade.

owh really??

isnt retribution just the same thing but with more units/factions??

BTW, when the f*** are they gonna add necrons to dow2!!! NOM NOM
NEEED NECRONS NOA!!!
*
Necron wont work in Essence engine, as they are slow and too deadly.

I think Tau would be more suitable, in fact, flawless, as they are also ranged race that need cover.

why wont essence engine work with necron? we will see cool gauss lighting up the battlefield  biggrin.gif

It is because Necrons dont use covers at all.

It's pretty much an army of Terminators.

Also, it will be boring as hell to play with them, and at the same time, they mess up balance a lot, like what happen in DC.
