My 1st Android Nexus One - Small Review

user posted image

Pros
- Solid build, definately nicer than what you seen on net.
- Stunning AMOLED screen (as stunning as OMNIA II with 16M color support)
- Smooth Effect overall.
- Multi-task is great, I can open more than 10 apps in background. (Not like my Omnia II, keep shutting down my apps)
- Extremely speedy during surfing internet, the best web browser so far I use before, it is definately better than iPhone 3Gs. (Base on my friend iPhone 3Gs)
- Good picture quality, the auto focus is working well even on macro shot.
- Actrative Photo browser.
- A lot of useful Free Apps.
- Great Multi-touch, as smooth as iPhone.
- Great GPS, I can even get location indoor. (This is dream in OMNIA II)
- Simplicity but functioning well SMS/MMS apps.

Cons
- Sometimes a slight jerk effect will happen when lots of apps running in background.
- No way to re-arrange Menu icon, it sort automatically via alphabetical order. (Maybe I not finding yet)
- Music player is simple and not attractive.
- Total apps not as many as iPhone, cannot purchase apps if you are not in US, UK, SG and HK. (unless you root it with custom ROM)
- No video calling (but is ok for me since I never use)
- No Outlook sync (I can't believe this feature is excluded as free, currently I found one too expensive, troublesome and not worth to buy)
- Standard charger is for US market. (but can use converter, and so happy is my OMNIA II charger can use on it as it is standard microUSB port)

Fix/New Feature after apply build ERE27 updates
- 3G signal is stable and no issue.
- Multi-touch feature.

Wish
- Add-on Outlook sync.
- High quality games like iPhone (I know it is capable just less developer at the moment)
- FM Radio (read someway it actually got hardware support but due to software issue)
- Touch to focus during capture photo.

Guys can recommend me a good micro sd card? Thought of changing it since im still using the original micro sd that came with the phone.
*
You want the BEST one? like..the best of the best..! costs about Rm500+ for 16gb smile.gif
I'm actually searching for a SD card myself..In talks with several people but so far haven't been successful in getting the one I need..If I do get it, my Nexus One can own any Nexus Ones around here..hahaha tongue.gif

QUOTE(h11g @ Feb 26 2010, 11:48 PM)
still wondering where to get the toshiba sd. where did you guys get yours? I found a seller selling kingmax micro sd class 6... Anyone heard of this brand before? Is it reliable?
*
Kingmax is a good brand..trustable smile.gif

QUOTE(Andrewtst @ Feb 27 2010, 06:46 PM)
Anyway to increase 5 pages to more, like 7 pages, not enough page for me, haha.
*
I also heard of an app "aHome" but I'm not sure lah..Never tried it..5 pages is actually more than enough for me..hehe
OR..there's a better option..
Soon desire's ROM will be out which will include the rosie interface..That will give you 7 pages per screen with multiple profiles (like in HTC Hero) tongue.gif
It also comes with cool widgets so I think u will need roughly 15 pages to be satisfied..hahaha

Sure, if can get 1000 users who can confirm the purchases, I don't mind. The card that I am talking about has the fastest read time compared to any other SD card so far. I've been looking for it for quite some time now. Some forumers do know it too as I have also request them to find it out for me. Its a tough find but worth it. Closest I came across was an enquiry from the distributors saying they sell each 16gb class 6 for 80EUR each and thats in BULK with distributors' price. Its quarter the price of our baby! But the 8gb is ridiculously cheaper with the price of 20EUR each. This is the price I got form Holand and Germany. A great forumer is also helping me by asking around his friends in Singapore and most probably we shall get an answer by coming Wednesday. IF we manage to get a hold on the cards, we will order one each for our phones (he uses Hero, getting N1 soon) and test the card. If it really does work as I expected, which I think our N1 will have zero lag even with APPS2SD, then we will open up orders maybe (but you have to pay in full upfront) smile.gif

class 6 and yeah, 16gb is already a killer expensive card..I guess the 32gb will cost like our phone if its class 6..lol..thats almost like a 40GB external hard disk..which can accommodate a whole Ubuntu OS..lol

ext4 is the latest filesystem in Linux. We have NTFS in Windows, and FAT32 as a generic filesystem..so ext, ext2, ext3 and ext4 are linux file systems..ext4 is "supposed" to be faster but I really don't see much difference most probably because our sd cards speed is too slow to make us notice the difference..Thats is why I'm struggling to get the xtreme card instead.

woah..CM5.0.4 is seriously kick ass! Look at whats under the hood.

* Kernel 2.6.33
* Resync with latest code drop from Google
* New lights library from ChainsDD - full color trackball notifications
* 360-degree auto-orientation from Optedoblivion (right/left enabled by default, check option in settings app for 180-degree orientation)
* OpenVPN integration into native VPN settings
* Fixed Dropbear server and SCP
* Added Bash shell
* Random media playback and FLAC issues fixed
* Tweaked the auto-brightness sensor ranges to be smoother
* Customizable MMS notification light/color/vibrate (originally from rgv151@XDA)
* Using RIL from Desire with power-collapse setting
* Enabled some additional iptables options
* Switched to CFQ io scheduler
* Compcache was removed and swap disabled in the kernel. We don't need this on the N1.
* Soft-key touch area expanded and tweaked by Kmobs and Dwang
* Lots of bugfixes from AOSP
