Not really. The black level is good when viewing during daylight and under bright environment but become slightly lighter at night under dim environment but still ok for a casual viewer like me. If you are very particular about the true black level, maybe you should go for plasma which normally has very good black level. If $$$ not an issue, then go for Pioneer Kuro brows.gif

I intend to get the 42" model myself and have been checking reviews from everywhere on the set and the equivalent US model, the ZV650U. I read that there is an audio problem, where the sound becomes garbled after the TV's been on for a few hours. Turning it on and off again seems to solve the problem temporarily. Anyone here experience that problem?

Nope, so far no one reported such issue with their sets here, including mine smile.gif . This could be isolated to thoese sets in North America region as their manual does not cover ZV600E which is only meant for Asia-Pac region and manufactured in Indonesia.

i use the autoview mode and the overall pq looks good to my eyes, if lower the brightness and increase the contrast to boost the black level, it tend to loose detail.

Can play around with the 3D Management Color settings where each base color has its hue, saturation and brightness setting so that you won't loose detail by doing so, also could tune the colors to be more natural and accurate. Btw, I'm using the Dynamic picture mode and then fine tune it to my liking. wink.gif

Just tune the colors to my liking and has been tweaking around settings for weeks until I'm satisfied with it, especially on the color of the sky, human skin tone, green leaf and red color where now they all look natural for me.

Any recommendation where could I get this colorimeter ? Definitely would love to try it out nod.gif

U can buy a colorimeter plus the software for ~ USD200. Spectracal is having good sale on their Home Basic Edition. I believe their shipping charges to Malaysia shd be reasonable (USD50 or so) and u shd be prepared to pay tax about 20% on it as it is taxable.

Spectracal Store Page

Or u can buy it from Chromapure.

Chromapure Display2

U then can follow the instructions and after practise u shd be able to get it done.

Of course the alternative is to pay someone to do it.

Enjoy.

I think for USD41 more u get the software bundle from Calman. Else u need to use HCFR with the EyeOne Display meter. IMHO, Calman is better for beginners.

Gocitygo,

How r ur results using The EyeOne Display? Do u use it with HCFR?

Yup. I'm using HCFR software. I paid US$120 for the Xrite smile.gif

Only managed to do greyscale calibration on HD65. Better dark scene details.

Greyscale itself is a big step up.

Thanks all for the recommendation, appreciate it rclxms.gif

First time get to see all these calibration stuff but didn't expect that it's quite pricey also sweat.gif . I'm wondering whether it's worth it to get one if I'm only using once to calibrate my tv or do I need to calibrate it from time to time ?

It is recommended that u revisit ur calibration settings every 1000hrs. I do it every 200hr or so. I have not see any major drifts on my set past 700hrs.

Anyway, it also depends on the kind of person u r. It is pricey especially if u only want to do it once. Thats why there is an option to pay someone to do it. Although, in Malaysia there are too few calibrators out there who give a hoot.

Alternatively, if you are on a tight budget, you can purchase a SPYDER 3 Express @ RM395 from Shashinki (http://shashinki.com/shop/datacolor-colorvision-spyder-express-color-calibration-system-p-3742.html). I believe you might be able to get better prices if you purchase from forumers here, and then download an *ahem* copy of Spyder 3 TV software and calibrate with the software using the Spyder 3 Express hardware.
