It is recommended that u revisit ur calibration settings every 1000hrs. I do it every 200hr or so. I have not see any major drifts on my set past 700hrs.

Anyway, it also depends on the kind of person u r. It is pricey especially if u only want to do it once. Thats why there is an option to pay someone to do it. Although, in Malaysia there are too few calibrators out there who give a hoot.

Are you one fo these few ? brows.gif

Can advise how much they will charge for such service ? With Toshiba ZV series provides the settings for Greyscale, Primary Base Colors and Gamma adjustment, kind of interesting to see how much different when the set is perfectly calibrated rolleyes.gif

Alternatively, if you are on a tight budget, you can purchase a SPYDER 3 Express @ RM395 from Shashinki (http://shashinki.com/shop/datacolor-colorvision-spyder-express-color-calibration-system-p-3742.html). I believe you might be able to get better prices if you purchase from forumers here, and then download an *ahem* copy of Spyder 3 TV software and calibrate with the software using the Spyder 3 Express hardware.
*
Thanks, RM395 sounds good. Do you know who is selling this sensor in the forum here ?

all sifus... assuming the player also provide some tuning capability, such as media player and some DVD player, do we calibrate TV base on the the player setting?

Should we also calibrate the TV from all the sources, i.e. DVD, BD player and media player, If yes, how do we calibrate the astro feed?

I saw some articles advise to turn off those noise reduction features during calibration, does this mean we should not use it at all?

thanks in advance.

Each source shd be calibrated and preferably at the display.

Astro feed is touch and go. My advise would be to use a pattern generator (ie 576i if u use the old box, 1080i if u use the B.Yond box) calibrate and hope that the programming adheres to the correct standards.

Noise reduction for HD sources shd essentially be turned off. For SD sources, depending on the source, it might be beneficial to have some NR.

Again, it is ur wish. If u r a purist and want to preserve the signal then, my suggestion woudl be to turn it off.

You can try TBM shop opposite Cheras Leisure Mall as I got mine from there. They are selling quite many units of this ZV series and if they have no stocks, they will order it from Toshiba. For price wise, not sure how much they are selling for 42" now but can negotiate the price with them, just like what I did with my set. Look for Jack as he gives very good service and helpful. smile.gif

First, you must set the REGZA-LINK Setup under Preferences to Off, then go to Manual Setting under Setup page to label the input sources.

The length of the label is limited to 7 characters, please leave the first character with an arrow go through the dot there (if you choose another one, your tv your skip the signal reception in this input source). Start selecting your characters from 2nd block onwards by pressing up or down button on your remote to label your input source. Repeat the same steps in other input source wink.gif

I also want to know how to go to the service menu, so far no luck finding such info

I heard 14-bit internal processing and panel bit are 2 different thing. For eg, my friend told me that Samsung LED has 18-bit internal video processing, but 10-bit panel. Internal processing means the bit width the TV CPU is working on the data. Usually the more the better. Panel bit width determine how many colors it can produce.

Anyone has any other understanding?

My understanding on the panel bit is that the number of reproducible colors the panel is capable of displaying. 10 bit panel can reprodcue over 1 billion of colors while 8 bit panel can only produce 16.7 millions of colors.

For internal digital video processing, I think it is important in terms of creating higher level of color gradations (a gradual shading of one tint, tone, or color into another) for smoother and natural picture without image banding. 14 bit video processing has 4096 of shades for a single color, which is 16x more than the 8 bit video processing (256 shades).
