Just ordered a 42zv500 for my gf's dad from hlk at 3450. Saw a display unit at best denki, so far it seems to be the best LCD of it's price range out there. The toopid SA at hlk was trying to convince me that the toshiba's black levels is better than any plasma out there. Got screwed by me lol. Will report back when I get the tv tmr

Are you sure the model that you select is latest or your typing error? ( you type 42zv500)
It should 42ZV600E. I hope you got the correct model.
I just bought it at HLK yesterday also. RM3450 cash, but i go for easy payment, more higher price.
It can fit to my car ( Kenari ) and bring back by myself. No need to wait delivery...hehe...

Sorry for reporting back late. Was really busy the past couple of days. Yes it was my typo mistake. I bought the 42ZV600E instead of the "500" version. Sorry for the silly mistake. I only managed to test the TV for a short while, but overall I was impressed with it's performance.

To start, I must let u guys know that I personally own a plasma tv, and I've always been spoilt by its blacks performance.

When I was testing the toshiba LCD out in my gf's home with astro SD, I had to turn on both the noise reduction mechanism and increase the sharpness by a little. The result was impressive to say the least. The PQ is at least on par with a plasma TV if not better.

I tried to test full HD but there we no devices that is able to output to HDMI at her place, so I used a VGA cable and outputted a full HD trailer from my lappy. the PQ was good and the blacks performance was quite amAzing considering it was outputted only as HD through a VGA cable.

Sound was ok, no fuzz, but nothing special az well. I wasn't expecting much from tv built in speakers anyway.

The colour was a bit too warm for my taste but then the tv has not been calibrated. I might do some calibration later when I'm free.

So that's all from me. Cheers folks.

If still under warranty, definitely can get it. How long have you been using the tv ? If still brand new (less than a month), go and request for 1 to 1 replacement.

hhmm...not sure whether they will entertain this or not hmm.gif . I had a small stretch of dead pixels in my previous LCD TV and managed to get the 1 to 1 replacement. You may try to contact your SA to see if tihs is something you could pursue for warranty fix

Hi,
Just received my 47zv and so far so good; nothing to shout about the resolution+ and clear scan 200 features, overall value for $$$,

btw, is the ZV series using LG/Philips IPS panel?

Cheers and Happy CNY

Congrats bro rclxms.gif

According to the AVS forum, ZV is using S-IPS panel. One of the main characteristic of S-IPS panel is its good viewing angle horizontally without color shift. It's proven with my set.

Thanks darenlks,

Added on February 12, 2010, 10:32 amDid some test and comparison with existing sharp lc42bx series (720p)

1, No dead pixel so far, as per Toshiba support, you need at least 5 pixels in a row in order to claim warranty.
2. PQ for HD source is good
3. PQ for SD or Astro is way too soft and color is warmer if compare with sharp, need some calibration and any sifu can
share some tips and tricks in this area.
4. Clearscan 200 is not as good as motion flow 200 by sony, still notice some motion blur, again ex5 is way more
expensive.
5. Slight delay in power up, about 2-3 second after the power on button is pressed. not sure this only happen to my unit
or can be fixed by new firmware. current version is 3c,
6. AQ is clear but dont expect much from the regza sub.
7. Rear connector design can be improved, unlike the sharp where cable is hidden and no issue when wall mounted.
This is something Toshiba can look into and hope the HDMI connector will not break as it touches the wall.
8. Power consumption is the same like sharp 225w except zv is 47", the zv is also lighter than sharp.
9. Reflective panel, feel better contrast but don;t watch from side when place next to window... wink.gif

That's all for now....

cheers=

On the other hand, I found out that the built-in Regza Woofer is quite a substantial plus to this TV. Although it does not comparatively sounds like good HTS, its still punchy and solid compared to normal LCD speaker.

Thanks for the info, now I know must have at least 5 dead pixels

2. PQ for HD source is good
Agreed

3. PQ for SD or Astro is way too soft and color is warmer if compare with sharp, need some calibration and any sifu can

There is always a challenge to balance between SD and HD sources for Astro but some SD channel have quite good PQ like WLT, so it is very subjective to the source quality supplied. Try to tune your Black/White level, Contrast and Resolution+ to higher, mine is at 9, 93 and 4 respectively. I do have the Auto Brightness set to "ON" so that it will auto bring up the Brigthness in very bright environment and reduce it when the environment is dimmer for better energy saving.

4. Clearscan 200 is not as good as motion flow 200 by sony, still notice some motion blur, again ex5 is way more
expensive.
The Clearscan 200 from Toshiba is actually true 100Hz + backlight scanning to create 200Hz effect, so it is not true 200Hz like sony or samsung which comes with premium price. Agreed that it is not as good as those true 200Hz

5. Slight delay in power up, about 2-3 second after the power on button is pressed. not sure this only happen to my unit
or can be fixed by new firmware. current version is 3c,
Same with my set. I read somewhere that saying about it is designed to conserve more energy when the tv is in standby, so not 100% sure. Not a big concern to me

6. AQ is clear but dont expect much from the regza sub.
For me it is much better than many LCD TVs in the market now especially coupled with Audessey EQ, to me it really deliver a clearer and crisper sound but of course still far from HTS standard. The 47" and 55" have extrat 2 tweeters to make the sound nicer

7. Rear connector design can be improved, unlike the sharp where cable is hidden and no issue when wall mounted.
This is something Toshiba can look into and hope the HDMI connector will not break as it touches the wall.
I'm using those universal mount bracket where it could tilt up and down so that it will have few inches gap left between the wall and the back of the tv, so try to avoid those bracket which will tightly mount to the wall

8. Power consumption is the same like sharp 225w except zv is 47", the zv is also lighter than sharp.
Ya, mine is 55" and only weight at 35kg without stand

9. Reflective panel, feel better contrast but don;t watch from side when place next to window... wink.gif
Mine placed next to the sliding doors, not too bad as viewing angle still good horizontally. Try to avoid looking at it off the center vertically as it will have color shift, so ensure your vision is parallel to the center of the tv as much as possible for best PQ when placing or mounting your TV.
