Subang,
That is not too bad. Winning prize money means top 3. I wish I was there too but I had to go for stage rehearsal for my niece ballet performance at KLPAC. They rescheduled the thing earlier. I cant believe the did not disqualify the yang qin guy.

Apparently condition © 参赛者可安排一名同伴作伴奏让演奏更丰富。
Participants can arrange a companion for playing accompaniment to richer; thus he walked free ... but he is good in YangQin.

IF you like to watch the clips pls let me know or I can post it here.

This weekend I'll b in KLPac for my son cello thingy... another rclxub.gif 12pm to 2pm Sentul KLPac ... 3pm to 5pm Bandar Puturi Puchong- modern Ballroom... and this will b my routine for awhile every Sun. sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

My SHANGHAI ANGELS Band was invited by MPO to perform a Concert on 8th Dec 2010 in their Concert Hall! The whole Concert will be my Band. Hmm...still thinking whether or not to take it up. It is a wednesday night show.

We felt honoured to be given the invitation....but dont know if my 3 lovely girls will feel the pressure of performing in such a high class venue.

That is great Empire! I am sure you put up a good show.
MBO cant give you a better date I suppose. I may have something up. I would love to be there to support. I have to try to reschedule things around so that I can make it. Keep us posted okay and congratulations to your band for being offered such an invitation. Empire, make chinese music great in MPO. I think the regulars in this thread will be behind you.

Cassie,
You are not in Malaysia, anymore? Hahah, with the internet it seems like you never left town. Anyway, wish you the best in your undertaking.

Its funny that you need people to teach you such things. All you need to do is find a modern song sheet and play. There is a modern song on page 4 posted by the TS. Check that out.

Faceless...thanks for your positive comment. I got an email from MPO people asking for my latest band FAIRYTALE FESTIVAL BAND. They prefer a non-Chinese repertoire on 8th Dec....though we can still perfrom 2 Chinese Folks songs.

FAIRYTALE FESTIVAL BAND features Clarinet, Mandolin, Irish Tin Whistles, Chinese Flute, Violin and Keyboard. Interestingly....this Band comprise of the same members from Shangai ANgels...thanks to our ability in playing multiple instruments.

Empire,
You band is playing, I will do my best to support. Let me know when the date is firm up. I will try to reschedule myself for it.

Subang,
Here is the poem on mei mei guzheng. That is only part of the poem. There 3 lines above it and six line below it. For now I only manage to translate what is on the guzheng. I am not too sure of the first sentence here. It seems to me like it is trying to related to the Ming Dynasty.

甲明银得勒,柱触玉玲珑。
猿苦啼嫌月,莺娇语(讠尼)风。
移愁来手底,送恨入弦中。
赵瑟清相似,胡琴闹不同。
慢弹回断雁,急奏转飞蓬。

Translation
The first Ming silver piece gets a strap
The pillars can stir up an exquisite touch
The ape resentfully weeps to the moon
The tender warblber * cries into the winds
Gloominess makes it way to the finger tips
Transferring the heart felt hatred to the strings
With the clarity of tone that match the Zhou Se*
And incomparable to the volume of the Huqin*
Its slow rebound could snap at the tuning pegs*
A hasty play produces specs of dusk.

Notes
Warbler is the burung kakak tua.
Se is a standing instrument. It looks like the guzheng except it is fretted. Zhou must be the place that is famous for Se.
Huqin is a type of Erhu. It is most likely noted for its loudness.
The tuning pegs of the Huqin are called goose leg 雁足
