i got a weird question

my mobo, apparently when i connect a sata disk to it, it doesnt detect

so what can be wrong ?

sata 2 not supported on sata 1 mobo?
insufficient power?
size too big (320GB)?
drivers?
windows xp?
bios outdated?

Is your SATA controller activated in BIOS?

ok ill check that out first

whats next , if thats enabled?

if im not mistaken , it is , lol

it's not detected in the BIOS itself already right? if yes, means it wouldn't be drivers or OS problem already

if all fails, get PCI SATA card,around RM40+.

i went thru the bios, nothing inside there talks about "SATA" controller or anything of that sort

not even start boot up sequence

let me search for my MSI 7104 bios drivers

EDIT: back with more information

i took a picture of my load upon my bios, as attached

However, im only PM8M-V (Bios 2.xx) and his is PM8M-VH (Bios 3.xx)

so i go to this site, http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&...o=1&prod_no=205

and see that my mobo can support SATA

now i suspect its BIOS problem, coz in my BIOS, there is nothing about SATA

Did you try checking this 4 sections?

>Standard CMOS Features
>Advanced BIOS Features
>Advanced Chipset Features
>Integrated Peripherals

Boot sequence or the SATA controller settings should be somewhere around there. Can check at Standard CMOS Features section to see if the hdd is detected

yup i checked every expandable section =.=

nothing on the word SATA.. found a bunch of irrelevant stuff

currently on MSI Live Update Online to see if i get any luck with updates

apparently, no new drivers for my mainboard / bios etc

so definitely its a setting somewhere

Huh....in your BIOS, nothing stated about Onchip SATA controller?

nope.. nothing on that

im going 2 plug the disk in and give it a go later.. currently not plugged in also , lol

anything like "SATA RAID" show up after the POST screen?
because it may use separate firmware to load SATA drive

Guys, I'm looking to upgrade my proc. Currently I'm using p4 2.8GHz /512.

1st of all what's the fastest 478 socket processor. I will be using it mainly for gaming like PES and COD.

if not mistaken the fastest is 3.6GHz. there's also 3.2GHz, but those are quite hard to find. more commonly found is 3.0GHz

I found the fastest socket 478 processor that available in Malaysia for time being is 3.2GHz/1mb/800 for Rm 150 (including heatsink)

Normally eventhough SATA controller is on, it will definitely detect and stated as SATA HDD detected
