QUOTE(dvlzplayground @ Jan 7 2010, 04:46 PM) actually i dont think i'll be going to a birdpark at all haha... im just trying to describe that's the range i want. the purpose is for travelling to shoot stuff that i cant get close to. yeah the 18-200vr would be best but too expensive..i can afford the tamron but scared hard to keep it stable since has no VR or whatever tamron calls it. tamron 70-200mm wont have any VR/VC/OS/IS or any of that crap mumbo jumbo..yes,we do need a sturdy hand to keep it stable.thats why i love to used it during outdoor where the lighting is enough, thus a faster shutter is used..so,no need for the mumbo jumbo i mention earlier..come to think of it, i guess i'll get the 18-105vr (wel not now lah, maybe in a few months) n sell the 18-55 no-VR. i imagine two lens is quite a hassle already (the other lens being a 35mm f/1.8). but if there's something like the aforementioned sigma 18-200 OS (is OS as good as VR?) for <1.2k maybe i can consider side track for awhile :- i bought my 70-200mm as a 2nd hand item priced at 2.4k..with a 10more months warranty from futuromic..if its a 1st hand,i wont spend 3k on it..But for the sigma, its outer coating wont last long.. |

For me, I would go for the 18-200 unless you decide you need the video and the extra controls and the built in motor of the D90. My Nikon 18-200 has been left on my camera since I bought it a very versatile lens if you understand the limitations.

But built-in motor of the D90 means i can buy 50mm f1.4 at half the price and also the HD video is very tempting |

Upgrade to D90 with 18-105mm kit lens OR keep my D3000 and buy a Nikkor 18-200mm lens? I already have 18-55mm & 55-200mm but i hate changing lens come join me, upgrade time..hehe.. |

Although I use a D90, I can actually count with my fingers how many times I've taken video on it LOL.

Wide angle distortion is one of the limitations, the other is a "soft" spot somewhere between 100-135mm and I think you are also aware of the "zoom creep" problem. I'm not sure about you but for me I'm willing to accept these limitations as I gain the advantage of VRII stabilisation, a focal range from wide to tele without changing lens and AF-S fast auto focusing. Anyway look around for nice used ones. I bought mine used too.

Maybe when D90's replacement out, D90s/D90x then you're gonna say too pricey/wait for newer model.btw, is D90 a good buy if compare to D5000??
