Well, if you have this kind of thinking it'll never end. Maybe when D90's replacement out, D90s/D90x then you're gonna say too pricey/wait for newer model.

My advise is get what you need now .

currently the latest is D300s for me D90 is a good buy as the built in motor help reduce the lens price. budden now famous lens normally has the built in motor ed.

if i had decision b4, i might go for D5000 + battery grip + sb600 rather then D90 alone

I'll go for D90 instead of D5000 anytime. 920k pixels of D90 helps in determining a sharp picture through LCD, dual dials rocks helps a lot when changing settings not to mention the built in motor lets you use the cheap yet good 50mm f/1.8 prime (and maybe 85mm f/1.8 too ).

IMHO i prefer D90 rather than D5000 specially if u want to use ad long term camera.

Of couse D90 is much better than D5000... Even newer version pop to replace D90, it does not matter if you own D5000 or D90 because D5000 is below D90.. If possible, I wish to get D90 than D5000 however now I happy with my D5000.. If budget allow.. D90.. if not.. D5000..

d90 is of course better than d5000 only because of a few specs ,
build in focusing motors
high reso LCD
Better grip for big hands (body is bigger)
Top mono LCD for settings

compare to d5000, nikon d90 got more value in secondhand market so if u happen to quit or upgrades, u can sell it in a good price as alot of
d40/60/3000/5000 that wanna upgrade with a small amount.

U dont have to buy a DSLR just like buying cloths actually, i know gals buy alot of cloths and left it hanging in the closet without even wearing them once. Try tell us what kind of photography u like the most example: Landscape , flowers , insects , portraits , events , sports

u dont have to finish all your rm 4 k for something that people say its good but u have no idea

If any of my real life fren asking me the question u asked, i would say pick up a beginner secondhand DSLR which u can get alot cheaper than a new 1 and play with it because u have no idea how far u would go in photography.  Upgrades is a sure thing if u go deeper into it haven't talk about the amount of money u wold spend to get a lens that produce the most beautiful photos is magazine that u can only dream about shooting.

Yes all of that is possible with some cash and credit card in your wallet.
