55-200mm with f5.6 at zoom range is not suitable in not so good in indoors. Only solution if u wanna zoom in indoors is 70-200 2.8 and 80-200 2.8.
Well i guess a photographer have the green light to move freely without disturbing people with their flashes.
*
Bro,u just go for the 80-200 2.8 push pull..For me,after owning the 70-200,i can take portrait picture without moving closer, thus leave a gap between be and the subject..so,the person can freely posed for me(usually my gf will be the unofficial model)..

but 17-50 2.8 is also good for wedding and portrait..but i dont own the VC version..just the normal one..

guys...wanna ask ur opinion. for a D40 with kit lens, would u..

a) sell 18-55, get nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

b) sell 18-55, get tamron AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di II

c) keep 18-55, get nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED VR

ideal lens would be the nikkor 18-200mm lah but too expensive for me hehe. if possible i want to stick with the nikkors for the VR, but a) scared i need more than 105mm and c) scared later i get too lazy to change lenses

Added on January 7, 2010, 12:11 ambudget 1k only cuz wanna get SB600 as well

18-105 is the cheapest all rounder with VR if i m not mistaken. for a zoom len, VR is very important so u can forget about the 18-200 tamron without VC.
U could also consider Sigma 18-200 with the OS for a price cheaper than the nikkor.

55-200 VR is cheaper and not bad if u can switch lens fast and in the right way. It really depends on you alone.

18-55 kit len already one of the best nikon kit len ever.

I suggest u to get a 55-200 VR secondhand at a cheaper market price and play with it first.
If u cant stick to it, then u may sell it away maybe at the same market price for a secondhand
and move to the next level.

nothing to lose right?

i like ur idea. will consider 2nd hand 55-200mm VR then hehehe. as for the sigma 18-200 OS the price even though 1k cheaper than the nikkor, is still too high for me......

even without the warranty card and receipt, the warranty is still valid,
Malaysia distributor of Sigma have the record of the purchase of the lens

if ur going to use it at birdpark only, then the 55-200mm is great for you.but let say suddenly u want to take a picture of a closer object,u still need to step back a few steps until u can get focus onto it..thats why i purpose for the 18-105vr or if budget permits, the 18-200vr..like my self,i alwiz carry my 17-50 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 in a lens case on my belt when going for bird shooting or wedding..or bring my gf d90 body, thus no need to hang the another lens in the lens case..

actually i dont think i'll be going to a birdpark at all haha... im just trying to describe that's the range i want. the purpose is for travelling to shoot stuff that i cant get close to. yeah the 18-200vr would be best but too expensive..i can afford the tamron but scared hard to keep it stable since has no VR or whatever tamron calls it.

come to think of it, i guess i'll get the 18-105vr (wel not now lah, maybe in a few months) n sell the 18-55 no-VR. i imagine two lens is quite a hassle already (the other lens being a 35mm f/1.8). but if there's something like the aforementioned sigma 18-200 OS (is OS as good as VR?) for <1.2k maybe i can consider smile.gif IQ as long as good in 1024x768 resolution (for flickr) enough already, no need for pixel peeping ;p
