Quest for Astro Byond 5.1 audio

My AV receiver only have 1 TOSLINK input. Read in the previous Astro Byond thread that one can buy a COAXIAL to TOSLINK converter at Jalan Pasar for about RM30. Went to Jalan Pasar last Friday. Went to all the shops and only two got TOSLINK to COAXIAL converter in the bargain bin. Price about RM200. No choice but to purchase the converter on Ebay for about RM80 including postage.

Another problem, my WDTV is using the TOSLINK input, so have to buy a TOSLINK switcher for about RM30 including postage on Ebay as no shop at Jalan Pasar is selling.

Also ended up buying 4 6mm 1M HQ TOSLINK cable for about RM20 each also on Ebay. TOSLINK cable sold at Jalan Pasar, cheapest starts at about RM40. Too expensive and looks fragile.


Will let everyone know the results, when I get all the items next week.

It is only astro byond that i am having problem. I dont face this problem with my pc or my dvd player.

found the culprit, is the hdmi cable that came with the decoder having problem. I changed to other hdmi cable
solved all my headache. Bad quality hdmi cable from astro!

Just got my B.Yond installed. Installer told me that the old cables are better than the new ones and they are not required to change the cable. He just gave me the new cable rolled up unused. Are the installers required to change the cable for us ?

Signal strength is 222 with entry point #18. Using the default HDMI cable provided by Astro. Will PQ improve using the new cable ? Will PQ be better using a better HDMI cable ?

Is there a clear difference in PQ between 222 signal strength and 255 ? Will changing the cable improve signal strength ?

For IPTV.....the sticker on top of the box said IPTV ready mah....

my condo need to wait 6 month for infrastructure upgrade

got mine installed over a week ago.. i think the reception is slightly better since I've only gotten the dreaded "services unavailable" once throughout the entire week.

now on a quest to find a decent entry level sound system to plug into the decoder. any suggestions?

Bro, when did u get yours installed? Everything changed? I'm at Kidurong area. Still waiting for installer to contact.

Damm astro.. Today is my 25 days of waiting.
Almost break a world record already for the longest waiting days to get byond install.

I got mine installed on 6 Jan wherby my colleague got his installed on 31 Dec 2009. My Byond decoder came with ODU 60 (old type dish). So, I requested the installer not to install it and I use back my old dish. Called the installer this afternoon and according to him, there's new set arrived today with ODU 65 but it's allocated to some others subscriber.

you should call astro everyday and complain... thats what i did...then the fella got tired of me calling everyday and quickly sent me the installers number lol...

mention mcmc should help more either

I call twice a week already and ur right it's not enough. I think MCMC is my choice if they did't call me tommorow.
My patient is almost gone already.

Relax... looking at the current programmings on the hd channels, you will get bored of it after 1 day installed.

well... theres nothing for me to regret...the hd extension fees paid by my brother because he wants EPL/football in HD badly =P .... i just benefit from him by watching hbo hd and learning channels.

i have to say this nat geo hd programming is a bit boring compared to what their SD channel offers. Really hope they could add more interesting programs.


the only hope i wish to have is at least one music video channel in HD.... lol...bet i have to wait way longer for that

I bet almost all people here waiting to watch EPL on HD. When astro started broadcast ESPN HD, no more regret at all.
