hi guys, im back =)
like any other rabbit owners out there
im having a hard time getting oxbow bunny basics T pellets..
is there any other brand of pellets that is as good as oxbow out there?
why do stocks have to run out that fast..=(

just a few weeks back
i bought a bag of 4kg bunny basics T pellets for rm25 from a fellow lyn member, who was selling it off 'cause her rabbit doesnt fancy it.
i should have known better..
turns out
the pellets didnt smell rite
and the expiry date is ilegible..
@@
hunny refused to eat any of the pellets i bought
so i confronted the seller about the expiry date and weird smell
according to her,
"it says 27 JAN 2011 if you see carefully."
when the only letters and numbers i can see are 'AN 27 20'
"well, that is really weird, because i hardly used much of it. but some of it did got mixed with my old pellets because i transfered it to a smaller container. do try feeding it for a couple more days, if it isn't working then I'm really really sorry there's nothing i can do about it."
if she had told me the mixing part earlier, i wouldnt have bought that bag of pellets from her
who would have thought to ask this before purchasing a bag of pellets which was claimed to be oxbow bunny basics T...
never bother to continue asking her about the old pellets after that..
anyway..
the only thing i can say is that im totally disappointed *sigh*
what am i going to do with that bag of unidentified pellets...T^T

WOW, i didn't know people are counterfeiting rabbit pellets now. You can try out Pro Optimum pellets which are available on the shelves of PLC stores too. Be sure to gradually change from old pellets.

Anyway, try to encourage your rabbits to eat hay. They can survive just on hay when pellets goes bad. Pellets at the end of the day are just fillers to keep those stomachs filled. Yes, there should be of good quality but in such circumstances, you should rather go for better alternatives.

My suggestion would be, get reasonable and decent pellets if affordability is the issue, you can get stuff like Hagen which moves really fast and the stocks are really consistent. The more consistent the stocks rotate, the fresher it is. You can compensate what Hagen can't give i.e. Fiber through feeding fresh and green hay.

Also, take note that switching pellets too often may upset your rabbit's stomach. I am done switching and hate the intervals without the certain brand of pellets and therefore has moved on to other better alternatives that work for me....

Quite agree on this, used to only give hay to my pet rabbits when my pellets smells funny and such..

the funny thing about only feeding hay is that.. they jus eat toooooo much hay..

imagine, my kits were only like 3 months old, both of em..

bought 1 kg of hay, and my kits finished all of em in 2 weeks

then my girlfriends ask me to buy more hay, at 1st she asked for 4kg, perhaps can last for 2 months rite? but instead, i realised buying 6kg is cheaper, hence i got 6kg of alfalfa hay!! for 2 small rabbits who are almost 4months old..

guess how long they took to finish 6 kg of alfalfa hay??

i got the hay on 7th Dec, they finished all 6kg on 28th Dec!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

are my rabbits overeating? but almost everyone told me to figuratively "bury my rabbits with lots and lots of hay", and i do just that lolz...

Give them as much as they want for hay, that is something you want to see your bunny doing, eating lots of hay (timothy + alfalfa). Is a sign of your bunny is growing and in healthy condition, cause they get hungry!

I visited a friend who own few bunny and few guinea pig, they feed lots of lots of hay, timothy hay, when i see it I said :"Great! Eat more! Good for you fellow!" Never see they rabbit have hair ball issue, never see they guinea pig got any teeth problem.

You will be surprised that rabbits can really survive on HAY alone. But to be on the save side, pellets are fed because they are suppose to be well balanced with all the nutrients they need. Over eating hay is a very good sign. It also tells you that the pellets SUCKS! LOL!

Hey all.
My rabbit's gettin really big. & it seems really uncomfortable in its cage.
A friend of mine (whose also a rabbit owner) suggests that I fence my gate & ditch the cage.
That's what she did for her rabbit. Let it out during the day & cage during the night.
She even reserve a hole for cats to enter her house to play with her rabbit.
Is it advisable?
My area has quite a number of cats. My neighbour has one actually.
& my rabbit gets really scared when cats r at a distance. She stomps her back feet when she sense 'danger'.

yup..the seller herself has rabbits of her own
tsk tsk
why do such things to fellow rabbit owners..

Pro optimum? this goes out of stock quite fast as well
doesnt used to be this hard to get pellets
i guess there are more people having rabbits as pets now ^^"
anyway..i think i'll get the pellets online and have them send over
save me the time and trips to go from petshops to petshops then ended up going home empty handed =(

My bunny also wants to join the fun here. This picture below is Lupe, my 2 years old jersey wooly rabbit. She loves to lay on the carpet to watch the Oprah Winfrey show with me. rolleyes.gif
