until now i still not sure should upgrade to byond or not as:
1) some people mention SD channels PQ is not as good as before (maybe due to bad upscale or something wrong with SD channels in byond)
2) byond dont have s-video which i use for my recorder and there is no simple/cheap component to s-video solution available
3) available HD channels not my family favourites

Yeah! Already got my Astro B.yond on yesterday! My area is Miri, Sarawak. The installer said they just start install it since 2 days ago. The picture quality is really good, but too bad so far dun hav any live soccer match on the 831.....

By the way, in the installation setting, there is options to choose to strecth or pillar box to convert the normal channel to wide screen. Which 1 should do better job? I am using 40" Full HD LCD.

I am using the dark grey dish, signal strength is ~80, and the other bar on the right is at 100. The signal below indicates 215-218.

U mean dark-lah?

Signal at 80-85% opr ~225 should be avg for many of us...The right signal quality, All of us should get 100%..thus I think yours should be the dark one hmm.gif ..There earlier (I think pirateguy) posted a picture of his byond dish which is entire grey very similar to the old one & he is ghetting <200!

Got mine 2 days ago. Called the installer myself and he came within 1 hour on Tuesday afternoon! Didn't change my existing cable as the signal strength is very good (>80% and 100% on those two signal bars).

I have a few questions which hopefully someone can enlighten me:
1. SD channels sound level is about 50% lower than HD channels. Digital Audio settings is stereo. However, tried connecting HDMI to my AVR, sound level difference reduce somewhat (about 10dB difference). Anyone else experience this? In fact I complained to Astro technical support and the lady on the phone said that they are very new to this and they are still learning about the technical issues with the decoder. Are we the beta testers? Maybe that's why they give us beta testers free usage until April 2010?

2. I am planning to connect the decoder as follows:
- HDMI to AVR to enjoy DD 5.1 on HD channels
- Component (Video) and Composite (Audio) to my LCD TV for SD channels
- Digital Audio settings on the decoder set at DD 5.1.
I do this beacause I don't need to turn on my AVR for cartoon channels for my kids which is a waste of electricity and they would not be able to tell the difference.

Question: Will I get audio on my LCD TV? When I connect HDMI to my LCD TV and set to DD 5.1 on the decoder, I can get sound on my TV and was just wondering if composite audio to TV will have the same functionality.

3. Anyone knows the decoder's remote control code for the Onkyo 705 remote control? Tried googling but found nothing.

Yes, we're the beta testers. Enjoy it smile.gif Remember, beta testing is a privilege, not a right.

Do feedback on your upcoming complicated audio setup biggrin.gif On the remote thingy, I already gave up dy..on TV, it's only control on/off & volume. Nothing else..furthermore, it can only control either one not both!! Lousy universal controller... shakehead.gif

Well lets face it...if DirecTV in US were able to compress HD channels to an average of 6Mbps at 1440x1080i....astro can do it too...not just that, it might be 1280x1080i..not 1920x1080i or 1440x1080i lol

I'm afraid astro will add more channel at existing 13 channel transponder. At last we all watching very low quality of HD from astro. sweat.gif
Just curious how much maximum bandwidth can be transmit on one measat 3 transponder actually?

Anyone try changing their entrypoint in the decoder from #1 Measat 3 (VL) to #14 Measat 3A (VH)? I was messing around and I seem to be getting a slightly better signal at that setting. Signal strength jump from 80 to around 88, highest point 94 blink.gif . All channels seem to be present. #2-#13 seems to be not working at all.
