The price of HTC Desire in Singapore is a lot higher than N1 (online purchase price). A list below is for your gauge:

(All prices are from local licensed distributor, except for N1, of course)
N1 purchased from Google.com = SGD820 (approx.)
N1 purchased from local importers = SGD950 (|||=.=)
HTC Desire = SGD938
HTC HD2 = SGD919
HTC Legend = SGD798

Generally, I find that the above phones are cheaper in Singapore but the price scale is probably the same (someone wanna confirm this?).

Question:
I hear that Malaysian Android sets do not come with Android Market app. Will this be the same for the Desire?
If yes, I understand we can install the app by "rooting" the phone. Seriously, I got no bloody idea what is "root". Can someone briefly explain it here? And how/where can I get this "rooting" done? Cost involved?

android market is included in recent release of android phones, like Legend.
But Malaysia can only access free apps, not paid ones.
Only a few country can access paid apps, refer

Cool! Thanks for the info!

I am returning to Malaysia for good in July and I am thinking whether to buy the Desire in Malaysia or in Singapore. Main concern here is the warranty, followed by price. Local warranty is only valid in the country of purchase, you see.

I asked a sales guy in Singapore about the warranty. He said it is not that useful because if there's anything wrong with the phone, it will surface within the first 14 days of use. Thereafter, problems will usually only rise after warranty period is over. I know he is trying to psycho me into buying his phone (instead of buying in Msia), but what do you guys think?

u mean if u import both htc desire and N1 from other countries than htc desire is more exp than N1?
well if in this case then u wrong because if u buy it from other country for htc desire, it will only cost approximately SGD750

OK, lemme clarify. There are 2 possible ways of getting the N1 in Singapore - buy online from Google.com, and buy from local stores (who imported them, either from Google.com or from other countries). The local stores are selling N1 at SGD950. But if I buy online, I pay only SGD820 (all in, including shipping).

Now, the Desire, HD2, and Legend prices listed are all local distributor's price i.e. not "imported" sets.

I know prices in Singapore aren't that relevant in this forum, but what I'm trying to share here is the price scale between the N1, Desire, HD2, and Legend. It should be the same in Msia, I think.

*Edit: Btw I just read that HTC Desire is launching in Singapore on 14 May. Any news when it will be launched in Msia? Would be great if I could compare prices on both sides before buying.

Actually spore prices quite close to Msian prices - the difference if any usually less than +- RM200
