those with desire can u plz verify whether desire does come with a screen protector that is already applied to the screen?

Mine doesn't have one nor does it provide unlike my G1 which they provide the screen protector and a pouch...

I'm pretty close to your stage now hehehe but with a difference. I have changed close to 10 phones since 2009 until now. Yes, I'm crazy but I'm sure there are more crazy people than me. So I hope Desire will be my last well for the year. Hahahaha...

Yeah this is the reason why I stick my preference towards Desire. I know the Nexus One can do Sense UI but I don't wanna mess with the flashing procedures. Also the Modaco alpha revisions are not really bug free although they're pretty polished by now. Also the 'repartitioning' scares me. Also I'm more interested in the reversibility of this procedure in an event I want to sell it. So I better stick to Desire.

Right now I think some people is selling Desire for RM2200 and below (AP) but I want to see the original price point before deciding. I think RM2000 for a high-end AP phone is reasonable but if the original price point is close to RM22xx, it makes no difference. But sometimes, I'm cheap. Thats the way it is hehehehe...

hey guys, i'm wondering which network mode should i use.

WCDMA is not supported in Malaysia right, so does it conserve the battery if i put the phone in 'GSM only' rather than 'GSM / WCDMA auto'?

I guess original Desire will cost at least Rm2400 ++ . Because if sis set cost at Rm2400 , then Ap will be Rm2200 . close to Legend Rm19xx sis .. if original sis set is Rm2200 , it make AP set sell at Rm2000 ... but legend cost Rm19xx , so sis will lost customer to buy Legend if they set ori Desire price lower . unless they set Desire Rm2200 together with lower Legend price . But I think HTC want earn more money , so they wont set Legend price lower for 2 3 months , Legend is selling HOT right now even at Rm19xx ~~

forgot to note you mate, three states in their website that the first batches of desire (available in-store) are unbranded and unlocked. i thought mine is still locked but when i checked with my other simcards it works perfectly. so yes, it is unbranded AND unlocked. real cool for the price

I love the live wallpaper especially 'Grass' theme. Its sooo cool. And it doesnt conserve much battery like my video wallpaper iphone which only can last for couple hours

sorry I was not clear. the legend is "retired" and going to be put of for sale. Gosh, it's impossible to carry 3 pda sized phones! during my precious 3 days with the legend, i wasn't overjoyed with htc sense. i think i must prefer the standard android 2.1 so i guess i wont be missing much from the desire. Somehow inspite of its size, i like the milestone and its battery can last me 3-4 days whereas the nexus does 1-2 days. I cannot believe all these high end phones don't feature a front camera for 3g calls! So I am looking forward to the Samsung Galaxy i900!

Guys, this should be the week we're waiting for. Technically its the 2nd week of May hahahaha

found this interesting article as i was finding out more on the hTC Desire, the snapdragon and Samsung's new processor S5PC110 aka Hummingbird...

one of the image on the article shows that the power consumption of the snapdragon SoC, guess what it's the highest among iphone 3GS, motorola droid, while comparison couldn't be done on the new Galaxy S as it's not out yet...see the pictures attached...
this could explain why the battery life is quite poor...

I just hope hTC Desire will be out as soon as possible, before snapdragon becomes "outdated"...especially if the S5PC110 is as powerful as claimed by Samsung...

Thats pretty much a given considering Snapdragon has been around for some time since 2008. It only went mass retail on phones by mid of 2009 (at least for phones we could afford). The Snapdragon is based on Cortex A8 but with a modified 128-bit SIMD (which could downlink to 64-bit to conserve power) plus the Scorpion processing unit.

The Hummingbird is more like a standard Cortex A8 but with improved process (45nm) to gain 1GHz clock. However, the killer feature is not about the processor but the Power VR SGX 540 graphics core. Thats one serious GPU. And because of that, it is more power efficient. The Snapdragon is still riding on the old ATI Radeon Z430 which is ancient and old. Qualcomm seems to be stuck with this GPU for life. But they do have better Snapdragon in the making like the upcoming 1.5GHz variants with a better GPU (rumor).

Also we shouldn't evaluate power efficiency based on core processors alone. We should look at radio performance too. With out spotty 2G/3G coverage, battery performance won't go anywhere more than 2 days (avg). We have to remember that battery performance depends on telco's network too.

i remembered the 1st device with 1GHz snapdragon is the Toshiba TG01, too bad that this device didnt really do justice to the snapdragon due to the software...

i read a few articles in the internet speculating that the dual core snapdragon QSD8x72 will comes with better GPU considering Qualcomm has purchased ATi's handheld device graphics division, so i hope that qualcomm wont be stuck using that GPU...

true about the battery performance and a lot of other factors have to be considered as well, but it also show that the QSD8x50 1GHz snapdragon is quite power hungry by itself...i hope that the QSD8x50A with 1.3GHz and 45nm will fare better in terms of battery life...

Yeah going multi-core may not make a lot of sense for mobile phones. Its like a mini warmer in hot pockets hehehehe... I know ARM is introducing Cortex-A9 and this core is capable for multi-core scaling. I think hardware has a comfortable lead ahead of software developments. The current Snapdragon has no problem powering all the software simultaneously and we have ample RAM to begin with!

And yes, Snapdragon at 1.3GHz and 45nm may provide a nice balance between performance and power consumption. The tablet market may benefit from multi-core scaling since they can afford a larger battery.

By the way, the Toshiba TG01 was suppose to be a debut for Qualcomm but Toshiba really screw things up with their software which made it laggy. HTC does a finer and more elegant job.

Guess they may have a price indication for original sets so they have to reduce price in anticipation. Also SG set is launching end of this week so availability will be improved. With more stock, price will get adjusted sometimes.
