found this interesting article as i was finding out more on the hTC Desire, the snapdragon and Samsung's new processor S5PC110 aka Hummingbird...

one of the image on the article shows that the power consumption of the snapdragon SoC, guess what it's the highest among iphone 3GS, motorola droid, while comparison couldn't be done on the new Galaxy S as it's not out yet...see the pictures attached...
this could explain why the battery life is quite poor...

Attached Image

I just hope hTC Desire will be out as soon as possible, before snapdragon becomes "outdated"...especially if the S5PC110 is as powerful as claimed by Samsung... tongue.gif

Thats pretty much a given considering Snapdragon has been around for some time since 2008. It only went mass retail on phones by mid of 2009 (at least for phones we could afford). The Snapdragon is based on Cortex A8 but with a modified 128-bit SIMD (which could downlink to 64-bit to conserve power) plus the Scorpion processing unit.

The Hummingbird is more like a standard Cortex A8 but with improved process (45nm) to gain 1GHz clock. However, the killer feature is not about the processor but the Power VR SGX 540 graphics core. Thats one serious GPU. And because of that, it is more power efficient. The Snapdragon is still riding on the old ATI Radeon Z430 which is ancient and old. Qualcomm seems to be stuck with this GPU for life. But they do have better Snapdragon in the making like the upcoming 1.5GHz variants with a better GPU (rumor).

Also we shouldn't evaluate power efficiency based on core processors alone. We should look at radio performance too. With out spotty 2G/3G coverage, battery performance won't go anywhere more than 2 days (avg). We have to remember that battery performance depends on telco's network too.
*
i remembered the 1st device with 1GHz snapdragon is the Toshiba TG01, too bad that this device didnt really do justice to the snapdragon due to the software...

i read a few articles in the internet speculating that the dual core snapdragon QSD8x72 will comes with better GPU considering Qualcomm has purchased ATi's handheld device graphics division, so i hope that qualcomm wont be stuck using that GPU...

true about the battery performance and a lot of other factors have to be considered as well, but it also show that the QSD8x50 1GHz snapdragon is quite power hungry by itself...i hope that the QSD8x50A with 1.3GHz and 45nm will fare better in terms of battery life...

Ok, those of you Desire users who want app2sd but dont want to go into rooting and rather wait for froyo (2.2) to come out. I'll give you guys something to ponder. Froyo is due in June. When do you think HTC will graciously provide an official update?

Go into the Hero thread and ask them about their long-awaited 2.1 update.  wink.gif
*
well, honestly i dont think hTC is famous for their ROM updates...i'm using touch HD, what do i get in term of ROM updates? 1 official ROM update and that's it...however i enjoy the community support for hTC devices...

look on the bright side, Droid Eris has gotten it's 2.1 update...

like many said, if you are looking for fast updates choose Nexus one instead...

so does this mean that non-contract phones can only be purchased after 1 month? is there any chances to purchase without contract in the first month?
if so, i'm sad to say that i wont be getting the hTC desire then...by the time hTC desire is available for the mass, other newer android devices will be available..namely galaxy S...

since when android phone has to become like iphone where you need to it from telcos? sad.gif

sadly,i nvr trust Samsung in term of mobile...even they have nice spec but still a no-no for me...

iphone can be bought from apple store in certain country too tongue.gif
*
not that i want to get the samsung galaxy S (too iphone alike, especially the UI), but if this is the case, i leave me no choice but to get another alternative...i dont really need a data plan (thinking of one but not from maxis as i felt their data plan is quite expensive)...i been patiently waiting for hTC desire like many others and now the news that maxis will have the exclusive deal, just shattered my hope...

unless the phone sells at 2199 (just like it is rumored) outright without contract, then i'll consider getting from maxis...

yeah, but in malaysia the only to get "official" iphone, you can only get from maxis or digi...

i guess id quite risky if u duwan data plan..if you never set the data network off in the device, then your money will gone..i guess 1MB can cost you more then RM10
*
using touch HD now and i usually off the data connection and only manually do updates...save battery and $$$, not to mention in my area, maxis and digi 3G coverage is crap...

i just dont see the need yet...at home got wireless set up...while at work i dont really play with my phone, need to concentrate on work right? tongue.gif

i just hope that it's not 100% exclusive to maxis, ie those who want to buy the phone with telco subsidy or with data plan can only get from maxis, while those who prefer to buy outright can get from other sellers...although i believe my hope is slim...

[rant] the phone been out for some time in other countries, and now this.... vmad.gif [/rant]

Another BAD NEWS for u guy..
the SIS manager said the FON is now shipping on the way only..
THEY NOT YET DECIDE the date & price lah...
NEXT WEEK Meeting only decide...
HE said the 2199 is the PRICE WITH THE PLAN..
ONLY will let MAXIS or DIGI sell it.. sweat.gif
*
WT??? vmad.gif
just because desire is high anticipated devices they want to do this to their potential customers? i guess those AP sets' selling price will be higher...and certainly getting from SG seem a pretty good alternative too with SGD898...RM2199 selling price with plan doh.gif

SGD 898*2.4 = 2155.2 shakehead.gif
*unless SGD898 is the selling price for telcos in SG....

confirm SGD898 is without contract, but with free 1 original battery and pouch.  laugh.gif

RM2,199 with contract is total rip off.  Maybe I can organise a mass order to buy from Spore to earn some pocket money.  tongue.gif
*
well depending how it will turn out next week, who know you might just do that and many might want to get it as well...

if hTC desire being sold more expensive (no contract) like 2299, i dont mind getting from singapore, with the additional battery and pouch... hmm.gif

or i maybe get from x132755, since i might want to trade in my HD...nexus one is also another alternative...

Didn't someone mentioned that ori will only be sold by telcos? Shop will only carry it after 1 months me think...

So for those who wants it fast, AP is the way to go  nod.gif
*
i'll wait till next week for the official announcement...
if it's really 2199 with data plan from any telcos, i dont think i will get it when it's launched then...if i cant wait another month for it to be available to other sellers, i just get nexus one (which hopefully be among the first to get updated to Froyo) or AP set...

seriously SG set looks pretty good alternative to me...

hehe. rumored that the next month's ori price would be ranging from 2499 ~ 2699. tongue.gif
*
seriously?

well if that the case, hTC / SiS malaysia will be losing quite a few customers (like me), and the telcos will "control" the selling price...

even AP price will go up sad.gif

well, there's always alternatives, who know tegra 2 + android (with froyo) might be announced pretty soon (that would be my wildest dream come true [for now])...

so we can purchased the phone outright, that's a bit of relief, but what i'm worry now is the RRP...

let's say the phone can only be available through telcos only, it can mean they control the RRP, who know if they put the RRP bit higher to sell the phone with plan?
i like buying from retailers because you get more choices of where to buy and choose the best deal (freebies and price wise)...

@bryan_23, SG set only SGD830? wow that's cheaper than SG RRP, not TP price in SG right?

what does Asian country warranty means?

not sure bout you guys but the reason why i didnt get the iphone is mainly because everything need to go through iTunes, and some of the restrictions, like no other options / alternative for core functions, example dont like the keyboard, dialer, browser, well tough luck you cant change it...

that's why i'm gotten myself touch HD instead of iPhone...initially i wasnt planning to get a new phone and waiting for WP7 as i kinda like the new metro UI, but the more i hear bout the features and everything, i decided not to wait for it, it show promise but not with the restrictions...

when i decided to jump to android, waiting for a nice device, then desire comes along but now i hear the rumour.... doh.gif

From HTC Malaysia @ FB

Hey friends,

The launch is ON. 27May2010

As you can probably guess, we will have a tie in with one of our telco partners and as such we hope that the packages and pricing will be attractive for you guys. So stay tuned for more updates and pictures from the media event.

so most likely the rumour is true... sweat.gif

y all of u still wanna buy this phone ... ClearPad wont make u go far and already outdated ... check this out ... same mathematical error on touch sensor ... y wont u wait and buy a better potential android device ... like samsung galaxy S

maybe you just want to let people know bout the "negative" side of hTC desire...but honestly i dont really see the need for unlimited multitouch just yet, and which app that really use this feature to the max? the "infamous" Pong game? or to play some games that require more than 2 fingers (i still think it's hard to play a game that requires you to press the screen with more than 2 fingers)...if that's the case then you should wait for the new iphone as iphone has always been the "king" when it come to touch sensor and multitouch...

i'll be much more worried bout the pinkish hue than the multitouch problem and limited space to install apps (well at least until android 2.2 is out officially on the desire with majority of the developer supporting it)...

and how about 720p recording and xvid playback that hTC promised, will it ever be released on the desire?

as the matter of fact, go to this thread: hTC Desire Flaws and Annoyances
that thread in XDA list the potential problems in this phone...better yet, maybe you can check out the threads in hTC Desire General Forum and you'll see some problems that the users are facing...

after waiting for so long and now maxis will have the exclusive to hTC desire, i did thought of getting other alternatives or wait for my dream device, which is a device with the tegra 2 SoC...i do hate some of the "outdated" parts, like the 65nm 1GHz Snapdragon (even if it's fast, by year end 45nm 1.3 GHz will be out with more power efficient and better GPU), the clearpad sensor and the PenTile matrix, but come to of it, will this "outdated" parts affect in day to day usage? or do i want to get the best parts just for bragging rights?

will i still get the hTC desire? i will wait till the official announcement tomorrow before making my final decision...most probably i will make a trip to KLCC to test out first...

edit: BTW, Droid Incredible and EVO 4G are using the same sensor as Galaxy S...

nothing is perfect dude..i would say HTC Desire is a great device with great UI..i am so tempting to get it once it released from UK, but unfortunately no funds sad.gif

but after android 2.2 announced, i will go for N1 over HTC Desire. i mayb love how simple UI it is..

i know, i have set myself to get this phone earlier this month but after waiting for so long and now need to wait another month has just "gutted" me...now i'm not so sure anymore....

but i got a problem with sms... seems that it gets jumbled up... messages that comes after i reply gets sorted above my replied message..

any settings needed to be set ar?
*
i had this problem with my HD with custom ROM...IINM, this is caused by the different time between the telco and your phone's time...

but this is android...so this could or could not be the source of the problem...

If Desire gets 2.2 faster than our Eclair, we'll go burn down HTC office.  thumbup.gif

If anyone wants to get a screenshot of their Desire, you guys can use ddms.bat that comes with the Android SDK. wink.gif

you couldnt really blame hTC (although yes hTC is slow with updates) as this could be due to the hardware limitations...Sense UI can be taxing at times...

i wouldnt be surprised that newer devices wouldnt have to wait that long (well this is hTC after all, so delay can still happen) as basically it has the same hardware between desire, droid incredible and EVO 4G...

edit:
to those who purchased from maxis, how bad is the pink hue on the screen? i know someone posted few pages back that it's noticeable, how bout others?

Oh? How about giving false hope then? First it was February and then March, April, May and now June. If they cant deliver, then just say so. Why do they keep going back to their promise? That's what Hero users are pissed off. It's not just the delay, it's the ever moving dateline.

Hardware limitations? Are you saying that HTC themselves wasnt sure of their own hardware capabilities before announcing that they will update with Eclair for Hero?  I'm sorry but I find that very unlikely.
*
droid eris and Sprint's Hero has been officially released, if it gives you better chances of being release to other hTC hero...

what i mean by hardware limitation is that it's take longer to optimise the software to run on older hardware...

trust me when i said i understand how you feel, touch pro2 and diamond2 was given the Sense 2.5 but HD was not, they are basically with the same spec, and when xda ported to HD it wasnt as smooth it was compare to TP2 and D2...

in my last few post i did mentioned that will desire users get the 720p recording and xvid updates that hTC promised? no one knows for sure...one thing i can say is hTC is not good in software / ROM updates, when hTC "promised" something, take it with a pinch of salt, nothing is certain and things can change between now will the day the ROM was supposed to launch...hTC is a hardware manufacturer, they want you to purchase their new model instead of waiting for updates...
