If the choice is between LX5 and NEX-3, i would definitely choose the latter immediately!DSLR quality with interchangeable lenses!

p/s: Opt for the 18-55 so that you can get some zoom or better get both the 16mm pancake lens +18-55

A superzoom ain't gonna produce better images than a high end PnS like S95/LX5 or G12

Nikon D3000,Canon EOS 100D. Go try both out and see which you like best

Canon S95,Lumix LX5 and Canon G12.These 3 models are in their own class

Like you mentioned, D3000 Or can consider Canon EOS 1000D also

Those 3 you mentioned are the best 3 PnS now. Wait for reviews before making you mind

Night shots are a tough thing for compacts due to their small sensor.However there are high end compacts with full manual controls that are pretty acceptable like Canon S95,Lumix LX5 and Canon G12

They are about RM1500+ .Else, might wanna consider Ixus 300HS which is a manual PnS as well @ Rm1200+

I remember seeing a review on Samsung PL151 on DCM.Seems pretty good, might wanna do a bit of research on it.

Canon 550D is an awesome DSLR!Pretty good video quality as well.

Was going to recommend you a D90 but it's slightly over budget.

Dunno really what to recommend.Try asking out at camera shops and see.They'll probably know what features you'll need

Basically there's nothing much to distinguish PnS below 1k. Mostly all have the same basic features but if you go 1k above,then that's where you see "high end" features coming into play

It all depends on you actually,which feels better in your hands,which you feel nicer handling,taking pictures,etc.

Street price is around RM2799 in LYP,Sungei Wang-basically BB area.I remember seeing one shop selling it for Rm2699 in LYP.




Should definitely consider LX5,G12 and S95.These three PnS are definitely the best high end compacts .A total class above other PnS.

So i guess it's really down to which one you prefer using?And which handling you like

Image quality and ISO performance for both DSLRs are pretty similar

Handling and build quality of the D90 trumps the 550D but loses out on the 1080p video recording.550D is new stuff with the latest features whereas D90 is already an old model.

My advice, go try it out yourself.Either one would definitely produce good quality shots

550D can do 720p at 60fps wor.What are you talking about

Another 200 bucks can get you an IXUS 300HS which a f/2.0 aperture.Good for night shots

Try looking out for the Canon S95,Lumix LX5 and the upcoming Canon G12.

lol I think it's best you just stick with the kitlens, and start learning about the gear you're using Rather than splash on stuffs you don't even know or how to use.
