Do you need the extra features from the 60D?

Yes-----> Get it
No------> Get the 550D

First and foremost, you have got to understand that 60D and 550D have similar image quality except the AF.ISO performance is pretty much similar as well

60D has some of these features which 550D doesn't have:

1)Bigger and better build quality- suitable for those who aren't confortable with the small and more plasticky body of the 550D. I've tried both and i absolutely love the 60D body
2)Top LCD panel- Good for accessing the important settings while shooting without going back to the main menu.
3)Swivel LCD Screen- Same quality as the 550D but it can rotate,flip upwards/downwards.Good for variable angled shots like going high or low.
4)Better AF system- 60D has 9 cross types AF points over the 550D which only has 1 cross type
5)Faster burst rate of 5.3fps vs 3.7fps
6)Integrated Speedlite Transmitter- For wireless flash capabilities using Canon Speedlites
7)In camera RAW processing
8)Manual audio recording level
9)Faster maximum shutter speed of 1/8000th of a second

If you need the features which i highlighted of the 60D, then please do buy it. Because it is a better camera than the 550D



60D with 18-200 lens costs close to RM5K iinm. I would say the 18-200 has excellent range, since it covers wide angle and telephoto as well.Good when you do not want the hassle of changing lenses here and then,thus it's great as a "walk about lens"

Else, 60D with a 18-55 +55-250 would offer a more decent image quality.

What do you mean by "60D LCD display worth for the money? " may i ask?

-----> Do you mean whether the swivel LCD of the 60D is worth spending the extra $$ to get it instead of a 550D?For me, it's a definite NO NO. I'll get better glass instead.

60D is such a nice camera. Tried it and absolutely love it! I really love the size, feel and the weight of it. 550D feels like a toy in comparison

No PnS can beat a DSLR.Period.

Does it qualify for the Canon 1+2 years warranty?

Should be equal or less than RM1.5k from what i surveyed previously. Body only should be around RM1.2k whereas lens would be less than RM300(if no warranty)

Pretty easy.A PnS be it with manual controls or a f/2.0 lens, can never compare to a DSLR in terms of dynamic range,quality of colours, DOF, detail&sharpness,ISO performance, handling and usability.

A 550D with 18-55 kit lens will cost around RM2.8k in KL or RM2.6k in Penang area, so that would be off budget right?

I'd say go for a Nikon D3100 for around 2k. It's a really good entry level camera, with Full HD video recording to boast also.Besides, ISO performance is excellent for such a price meaning good in low light

D3100,D5000,Canon 500D,550D.Add in Sony A33 and A55 as well

Since you're staying in East Malaysia, prices there should be much more expensive compared to KL?

Bridge camera? As in bridge between PnS and DSLR?

The cameras you mentioned are big mind you, as big as the likes of D3100 or 1000D,550D

Why go for small fry when you can get the big daddy?

Anyway,the cameras you mentioned are called "superzooms" cannot compete with the likes of Canon S95 and LX3 which are still the 2 best PnS cameras in the market today.Superzooms do not have image quality and low light performance as good as the f/2.0 cameras i mentioned.period

For your budget, definitely Nikon D3100!Probably the best DSLR for under 2k

I think you should be more concerned on what lenses you will be buying, instead of the bodies

Most likely you'll get "victimized" to get stuff that you don't really need/want due to seller's overpowering influence

And really, accessories are the LAST thing you should worry about which is what Sellers are SO KEEN to sell to you. Do you know shops make much more money from selling accessories than cameras?

Anyway, get a knowledgeable friend to go with you

Definitely the P7000 as it is a "high end PnS with manual controls" similar to that of a Canon G12.

But la, better to choose either a Canon S95 or Lumix LX5

*ahem* 2.7k can get you a new D90 body + 2nd hand 18-55 *ahem*

RM1.3k might get you a D3000 D3100 is around RM1.9k which is way over budget already

Else, there's always PnS out there with HD video yo

How is it possible that you prefer a D3100 when your budget isn't sufficient enough for it?

You can easily get a 2nd hand EOS 1000D or a Nikon D3000, or you can top up around RM200 more for a brand new D3000/1000D There are also Sony DSLRs like the A380 iinm
