Hard to focus?Were you using the correct settings such as macro focus-"spot" and within the minimum focal length?

How about using manual focusing?

Well, macro shots are pretty much beyond PnS capabilities but for your camera, i think there's a close up(macro) conversion lens right?Try searching for Raynox DCR-250

When you're zooming, there's the minimum focal length like for my LX3 when at its longest zoom(60mm)/2.5x i need a minimum distance of 0.3m away from my subject,thus making it hard to get a good macro shot

That's why you can focus easily when you're not using optical zoom right?

Time for a macro lense xD .Go search it up

Don't know why he would need DSLR in the first place?Well i guess if his budget permits, no harm getting one also

EOS 100D is around RM1.6-1.8K iinm.Go check around

lol of course, the 550D will beat the crap out of that D3000.D3000 is Nikon's cheapest DSLR while the 550D is marketed as a mainstream model

Don't listen to your friend.He has no idea what he is talking about since you're comparing two models from a totally different market segment

Since your budget is 3k, 550D will be the best choice with 18-55 kit lens Ouch...one more thing, you'd better allocate more funds for a decent bag,external flash and more lenses

Define semi pro.Or you mean those Superzooms eh?Or you want full manual functionality and quick buttons with the same form factor as DSLRs?

D5000 is around RM2.5K,550D is around RM2.8K, D90 is around 3.3k?Not too sure about this .Try asking around in the respective brand threads


I hear people or reviewers saying that 550D is good for beginners or those who is entering the DSLR world for the first time.Can't vouch for that as i do not own it

By all means, go for the 550D with standard kitlens starting at RM2.4K,then get some accessories.Any other enquiries, ask in Canon thread

18-135mm just gives you more zoom, otherwise the 18-55mm can pretty much do most of the job

How much is the 18-200?I'm guessing it costs a bomb,probably around 2k?

I do think the extra $$ is totally justifiable by the Image Quality and what you get in the LX3 and S90

Add in another one,Sony NEX3 if you don't mind a "mirror-less DSLR" with a form factor of a compact

If so, i guess like what you mentioned-LX3,S90 and G11

S90 would suitable if you want something small,that slips into your pocket well .If you don't mind the bulkiness,then LX3 or G11 is the way to go. Generally, the three of them are similar in performance,so do try them out and see which you like the most

Don't think you can get a DSLR with that budget?Try topping up to around RM1.6-1.8K Not too sure about the lastest prices of the D3000 or 1000D

Canon 1000D/Nikon D3000

Maybe you should spend another few hundred RM for a 550D body at RM2.4K.Definitely much more superior than the 1000D/D3000

Why go for old tech,unless RM300 is a lot for you
