Been following this thread for a long time now. I need the si-fus out there for advise because I am all confused, and the more I read, the more indecisive I get. I am in dispute between Canon EOS 500D and Nikon D5000? Or should I pick up EOS D450? Btw, I am a beginner into DSLR. Ty.

The a380 is a notch down from the a550 if I'm not mistaken, which makes the a550 'on par' with intermediate cameras like the Nikon D90 and the Canon EOS 50D.

By the way, wingster, what is so special about this 'dynamic angle shooting on PnS'? Just wondering. Never heard of before.
*
Which means the 3 inch 920k color tilt-able LCD screen which gives to shoot at really low angle and very high angle ..... likewise A550 has featured secondary Live View too which is the manual focus check, a precise focusing feature mode which 100% accurate focus compare to the primary fast focus (4fps continuous shooting) Live View mode.

@alien86 Well A380 was a "downgraded" dummy from the original A350. Although A380 features with dual card slot and HDMI ports which seems good but lacking good handy grip, downgraded battery which is much shorter battery life than the A350 and even more noise than A300/A200/A350 series was given a no-no to them =D

That budget you may get the Nikon D90 Body + 18-55mm Kit Lens >.< if you want a tough body and some semi-pro features

other wise you can go for Canon 500D

I find it quite amusing that no one ever replies to any of the posts asking for advice about point and shoot cameras. People only bother replying to people who want to know about DSLRs. I guess they think point and shoot cameras aren't worth bothering with.

what more, from my research, for dslr entry level, there are only few models to choose from if you want new.

ie. canon 1000d; nikon d3000; nikon d40, etc.

other brands such as sony, olympus, pentax are generally not as popular.

question, do 3rd party lens (sigma, etc) work for all brands (with adaptor or otherwise)? or do they have specific series that is compatible; seeing that each brand have different lens connection.

I think the general questions asked here were more leaning towards the DSLR trend - because DSLR has become cheaper and that the purchasing power of most people have increase. laugh.gif

Yes, agree with you that people are generally following the trend when it comes to choices - only a N or C in their mind. If they could have look beyond that options, they get far more value for their money. smile.gif

3rd Party lens - have to depend if they have options of your camera mount available. A Tamron lens meant for Canon mount cannot be mounted into a Nikon camera - they're different. smile.gif

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR Kit
Budget: Less than RM2k
Your Location: KL/Seremban
Preferable brand : Anything will do
Type of photography u want to do : Landscape
Any specific models in mind? : A200, i think is good.
Any specific features u want? : As long as it's a good camera, easy to use. Don't need too much features, just the basics and I can take clear, nice shots. If the kit comes with lenses, then a recommendation of what type of lenses to buy/use would be good info.
