For that kind of amount of budget, I would invest in Pentax K-x and use the remaining money for good glasses laugh.gif

I find it quite amusing that no one ever replies to any of the posts asking for advice about point and shoot cameras. People only bother replying to people who want to know about DSLRs. I guess they think point and shoot cameras aren't worth bothering with.

I think the general questions asked here were more leaning towards the DSLR trend - because DSLR has become cheaper and that the purchasing power of most people have increase. laugh.gif

what more, from my research, for dslr entry level, there are only few models to choose from if you want new.

ie. canon 1000d; nikon d3000; nikon d40, etc.

other brands such as sony, olympus, pentax are generally not as popular.

question, do 3rd party lens (sigma, etc) work for all brands (with adaptor or otherwise)? or do they have specific series that is compatible; seeing that each brand have different lens connection.

Yes, agree with you that people are generally following the trend when it comes to choices - only a N or C in their mind. If they could have look beyond that options, they get far more value for their money. smile.gif

3rd Party lens - have to depend if they have options of your camera mount available. A Tamron lens meant for Canon mount cannot be mounted into a Nikon camera - they're different. smile.gif

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR camera
Budget : RM2000+/- include kitlens..
Any specific models in mind? : currently got my eyes on, Olympus E-620.. and canon 500D, or 550D.. and pentax K2000

Any specific features u want? : not really.. but i would love if it could take beautiful low light pictures..
so, the E-620 was introduced to me by some shopkeeper.. the price was very good.. he even demo-ed it to me how the camera works, it looks pretty good and really makes me interested.. but i see not many ppl uses olympus, so i wonder why? anything the shopkeeper not telling me?

and before anything.. i know the 500D and 550D is around 2.3k+ and 2.7k+ with kit lens respectively and above my budget.. but if its really worth the money, i would go for it.. currently i think its too overpriced.. maybe im wrong, so pls help me with this..

and the pentax, ive nver seen it.. just heard it from a review.. some insight would be helpful.. and the price too if can..

and if u guys got any other DSLR to recommend, do tell.. thx smile.gif

I'm a Pentax shooter so I can share some insight together with you and perhaps aid you in your purchasing decision. Before I begin, always remember that good photos are result of photographer's years of experience, skills and exposure to problems that often leads to solutions.

I love Pentax, it's one the great thing I have ever had. It's solid, weather resistant (my batch K200D) and comes with built in SR (Image stabilizer inside the body), which automatically means that any lens I mount on the camera will automatically comes with image stabilizer function. This is where you save your money, without forking additional resources to purchase stabilized lens which can put onto something else.

Community support is awesome, we have dedicated forums (international) at pentaxforums.com and photomalaysia (local), so be assured that many experts are there for help.

If you plan to go for Pentax, please check out the K-R (newly released) or if you're tightly under budget, then the K-x is one hell of an awesome camera as it can take good photos under low light condition. smile.gif
