Let's try and see what I get.

Type of camera/lens/accesories:  Point and shoot.
Budget: Around RM1,000
Your Location:   Currently in Kota Kinabalu, but I can travel to KL to buy it.
Preferable brand :  Canon
Type of photography u want to do : Some travel use. I've used an SLR before (before there was a D in front of it), but I hate travelling with something so bulky.  I also play boardgames and plan to take lots of photos with the camera of the hobby, so it needs to be good at taking photos of small objects (gaming boards, tokens, miniatures) in indoor settings. Hopefully without flash because the flash will reflect off the objects and make the lightning too harsh, plus lose detail because of the shininess.
Any specific models in mind? :  No idea.
Any specific features u want? :  As noted above for the type of photography I want to do.
*
how bout Powershot SX120 IS, since u r familiar with photography, this 1 suit u coz it has full manual control...
regarding flash, there is some tendency to capture image that is underexpose and blur due to hand shake cause by slow shutter speed if u dun use flash...

I find it quite amusing that no one ever replies to any of the posts asking for advice about point and shoot cameras. People only bother replying to people who want to know about DSLRs. I guess they think point and shoot cameras aren't worth bothering with.
*
i have been replying to PnS post previously but last week went back hometown with no internet access...

QUOTE(Icehart @ Feb 2 2010, 02:45 PM)
I think the general questions asked here were more leaning towards the DSLR trend - because DSLR has become cheaper and that the purchasing power of most people have increase. laugh.gif

but dun u think most of them asking the similar question? i also feel bored with this frequently repeat question...
90% of them are the same... 1000D with D3000, D5000 with 500D...

sony control its own price... that is the disadvantage of sony product...
even gap price vary little only from each shop to each shop...

I'm just checking and narrow down my choice to Ixus 120 and Sony TX7

I saw new sony have many nice feature including the paranora shot and 10's photo shotting within 1second.
but the only spec disadvantage is the F value start from F3.5 but Canon have F2.8

The canon also have advantage of smaller size too but sony 24mm where Canon only have 28mm wide angel lense.

Do u think i should get the LX7 instead of Canon 120? How's the night shot quality compare between this both camera. I realize Canon Ixus image tend to like more soft type, the color is not sharp as other camera.

compact and slim PnS is a simple PnS yet stylish... no panasonic around RM1000 range
canon IXUS 95 IS or nikon COOLPIX S640 or Sony DSC-W230
about flash, its based on the environment... not the camera
if bright scene u have no problem as PnS will set a fast shutter speed
if night scene or indoor then u have a very slow shutter speed, like 1s

advice: longer zoom lens with focal multiplier more than 3x to 5x will give soft image...
powershot SX110 IS, Pana Lumix DMC-TZ15 and the model that u mentioned...
for night landscape or fireworks u will need tripod, handheld is totally not recommended...
bcoz all these setting need a small aperture and longer shutter speed like F8-F11 and 10sec
