voting for D90 smile.gif

prosumer camera are those like lumix FZ38 or canon SX20 IS..sometimes called superzoom. mostly priced around 1.5-2k range. manual controls, good zoom...but cannot change lens (got conversion lens though) and just slightly smaller than a DSLR. quite suitable for learning la since u get all the manual controls, learn to play with aperture, shutter speeds etc...but since u have the money, better get a camera u still can use when u pro already smile.gif

yup agreed for D90 if you doesn't care so much about FULL HD video recording and wanted to having the semi-pro customization :3

If you're landscape or portrait..... there's many rival for you to choose

If you want a built-in stabilizer which mount on any lens you attach, dynamic angle shooting on PnS (used on portrait), fast action shooting and yeah good low light performance...

Sony A550+SAL1855 Kit Lens can be your choice

The a380 is a notch down from the a550 if I'm not mistaken, which makes the a550 'on par' with intermediate cameras like the Nikon D90 and the Canon EOS 50D.

By the way, wingster, what is so special about this 'dynamic angle shooting on PnS'? Just wondering. Never heard of before.

Which means the 3 inch 920k color tilt-able LCD screen which gives to shoot at really low angle and very high angle ..... likewise A550 has featured secondary Live View too which is the manual focus check, a precise focusing feature mode which 100% accurate focus compare to the primary fast focus (4fps continuous shooting) Live View mode.

@alien86 Well A380 was a "downgraded" dummy from the original A350. Although A380 features with dual card slot and HDMI ports which seems good but lacking good handy grip, downgraded battery which is much shorter battery life than the A350 and even more noise than A300/A200/A350 series was given a no-no to them =D

That budget you may get the Nikon D90 Body + 18-55mm Kit Lens >.< if you want a tough body and some semi-pro features

other wise you can go for Canon 500D

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR camera
Budget : Less than RM4k with kitlense (or 50mm macro lense), if possible around RM3k range include kitlense too
Your Location : Penang/Kedah
Preferable brand : Doesnt matter
Type of photography u want to do : Mainly will be using for taking food picture only, or macro shots for fun. Rarely will take landscape or portrait, those will be done on my PNS
Any specific models in mind? : nope, open to any suggestion
Any specific features u want? : 1) can take good close up picture, especially food, its even better if kitlense already can do a good job on macro of food, and no need get macro lense
for now until i learn more
                                              2) able to take good food close up picture under low light, like in restaurant and such where there's very low natural light , and the lighting is dim

If you need a Macro + Camera Body I suggest:

Tamron SP 90mm Macro + Nikon D5000 body

or

Tamron SP 90mm Macro + Canon 500D body

or

Sony A550 Body + Sony SAL 30mm F2.8 Macro Lens
