550D would be best choice..... price range around kl is 2799-2999 complete set with tripod bag and 8gb card
550d 18-135 best choice......

Cheers dude. I was leaning more towards Canon as I'm currently using one but heard good things about the D90

Well, i always say : When there are 2 things (similar performance/specifications) you're headache about, just head down to a shop and test both of em' .Choose which feels better to you smile.gif

After all, it's you are the one handling the camera and not us. Some might like the chunkier D90 whereas some might prefer the smaller and nicer to hold in the hands 550D.

Just my 2 cents ya biggrin.gif

thanks. i did test both previously and decided to go for the Canon also because I feel the Nikon is a bit dated if I compare apple to apple. My friends who are using Nikon will strongly disagree but I guess each brand will have their own fans.

If you demand for a whole new kit lens, then of course buying the bundle kit will be worthier. Else, you just buy the body only and search for the kit lens in LYN. There's a lot of people who sells a new / superb condition kit lens with RM300++. Good luck. thumbup.gif

Hi, could somebody help me out with my details?
I kinda need to decide by this weekend :)

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR
Budget : RM2000 + kit lens
Your Location : Subang
Preferable brand : More to Nikon, but Canon would do too
Type of photography u want to do : Places (when I travel and all), family, more places. Haha
Any specific models in mind? : thinking of getting a 2nd hand/almost new Nikon D3000 or Nikon D60 (from Mudah.my) as they're within my budget and I'm a newbie. Tried considering getting Canon 500D and 550D but too expensive for me :\

it's probably best if u can wait for D3100. personally i think D60 and D3000 are very small upgrades from the D40, nothing major. D3100 is a huge improvement biggrin.gif not sure when will it reach malaysia haha

i'd say go for a D40 if u can find a good deal, in good condition. with 18-55 lens shud b around rm1k. i'd go for D60 if it's around rm200 extra for the VR lens n sensor cleaning. spend the extra money on a flash (nikon SB600 or nissin Di622) if u wanna take nice indoor pics, a prime lens (AF-S 35mm f1.8G) for portrait/food or a long range zoom (AF-S 55-200 VR). personally, i'd get the camera body only plus a 18-105 VR smile.gif

haha, D3100, it's not that i can't wait. just that, for sure the price of it will be like super high right, since it's new? lol.

hmm, D40. never considered it. but yeah, by the looks of it on Mudah.my, definitely cheaper compared to D3000.
though, function-wise and everything, is it really worth going for compared to D3000 and D60? cos it was released much earlier than those two right?

not sure on D3100 price, but it's US$700 so shud be around 2.2k-2.3k like that. add a bit only..hehe

mmm D40 dun have sensor cleaning, so juz make sure dust wont go in when u change lenses. D40 dun have ADR, but then ADR in d3000 n d60 is uselessly slow anyway. d3000 got 11 af-points compared to d60/d40 got 3 af-points. for me, d60 n d3000 is too noisy above iso800 while d40 looks okay until iso1600 due to smaller megapixels. but then d40 kit lens dun have VR whereas d60 n d3000 kitlens got VR.

if 2.1k that's really good news biggrin.gif great value there. dun forget expeed2!

i think d3100 > d5000 already haha. d3100 for sure, or probably a 2nd hand D90

anyway, one more disadvantage of D40.. no software support for tethered shooting tongue.gif (at least i cant find one)

i dont know why but i'm still pretty keen on getting the D3000. should i just go get it and learn everything first and then consider on getting some other DSLR or should i reconsider D3100 again?
