Type of photography u want to do : Indoor/outdoor/low light
Any specific models in mind? : Canon IXUS 130 / 210 / Panasonic LX3
Any specific features u want? : User Friendly, good in low light. Compact

seriously bro, if u really can get a LX3 within ur budget, juz head straight to it. The LX3 rocks off the 130/210 in terms of image quality, performance and features...the only down side of the LX3 is the size compared to the 130/210.

If u really don't want a bulky camera, then head for 210. Why? Cause u get a touchscreen feature that enables u to point the exact focusing point. Another cool feature of the 210 is the fisheye mode smile.gif

Preferable brand : Canon, Nikon
Type of photography u want to do : portrait ++
Any specific models in mind? : 1000D+kit+50mm around 2.1k
Any specific features u want? : nope
Or should I add abit more to get the 500D and kit only?
*
bro, 2000++, ++ means how much? biggrin.gif
Golden question, have u ever tested out the 1000D in person? If no, then u should. Do test about its functions n most importantly, the live view with AF. If u really like it, then u're good to go.
For me, I don't, cause the liveview response is pretty slow n troublesome. So, if u can live on with juz the optical view finder, then it shouldn't be any problem in respect to ur budget.

Seriously, buying a camera is like buying a car. Do make sure that it passes ur personal requirement before purchasing it. smile.gif

Another thing, back to ur ++ thingy. If u really have more to spare, why don't u head on to its latest model which is the 550D. biggrin.gif

bro, one question..
are u comparing 500D/550D with a D3000?
or is it a typo of D5000?

seriously, u can't compare a D3000(entry level) with a 500/550D(lower midrange)

and do suggest me where to buy... maybe in lowyat or mid valley area... and also the current prices...

thanks in advance...

bro, glad that u asked.
With respect to all your requirements, the TX7 is a wise choice. But wait, personally, i found a problem with the TX7 which is the laggish user interface. Well, this is a very personal matter. For me, i want an interface which is fast n responsive where sadly, the TX7 does not fulfill my requirement. For some reason, Sony made it a lil' slower respond than its retro T series cameras, not sure why.
But at the end, its all up to u to decide whether u can bear the lag-ness or not.

Then, buying at lowyat? For me, that's a huge NO. Why? Cause i'll rather pay a lil' more to compensate for frauds. And btw, i always purchase my stuffs at Sony Midvalley...it's trustworthy!

that's because sony cameras are pretty expensive for the price. for that price, can already get high end compact like a canon S90 or lumix LX3. but then if u like the sony brand n looks, who's to say u're wrong...u shud buy what u like smile.gif canon IXUS 210 is quite good too for ~rm1k

if u want video recording, canon 1000d n nikon d3000 dun have sad.gif. u need atleast canon 500D or nikon D5000, shud be 2k-2.5k like that. any dslr can take quality picture as long as u have the right lens and skill. if ur budget mmg cannot go more than rm2k, probably u can juz get a compact with full manual controls like lumix LX3 or canon S90, n start learning about the basics like ISO, shutter speed, aperture, white balance, etc. at least this option can still record video

lol, juz wondering why sony is a nono. When it comes to low light performance n specs, it'll rock off canon big time. Hmm, price wise, yes, its expensive but u get tons of advantages. So i would say that its reasonable biggrin.gif Well, since TX1/7 is way high up for ur budget, might as well forget it. smile.gif

Back to 210. Well, 210 is still a new camera here, sadly though, im not sure which shop would actually sell it cheap for now, but canon malaysia is goin' for RM1399.

How sure are you that Sony 'rock off Canon big time' in low light performance? Mark your words with proof or I shall report you for fanboyism.

lol, again! Well in this case, a camera review won't help. Lemme tell u my personal experience. In the end, it's still up to u. Few years back then, one of my friend bought an ixus 970 IS and another friend of mine got a Sony T300( if i didn't remember wrongly). Had some 'try out'(no flash) at a mamak store at night...and later we compared the quality of em' on a lappie. Believe it or not, the T300 really does work out with a lesser noise level(in fact both has noises). And last time, i remember that there aren't any 'lowlight' technology yet. These days, since sony introduces its next generation of camera( those with Exmor R), it couldn't make me believe that it will not do what is being told. The handheld twilight feature does seem pretty promising( im referring to LCD viewing).

Well, if u think im a 'huge' Sony fan, well NO. U see, Sony is pretty good in playing those marketing games and thus, they have been flooding their models with 'not-so-useful' technologies. Since there are people out there who might like it, i don't see the reason why I can't recommend it based on my own experience lol.

Btw, I didn't say that TX7 is all good u know. ^ refer previous posts. I've tested the camera at Sony center b4 proclaiming lol. It's juz my opinion to her, no forcing or anything. smile.gif

i am the one who also asking this question to myself too but i think the reason is,
from review, f200exr>f70exr but both pwned by lx3 and lx3 pwned by s90 in low light condition. While targeting the low light mkt, both fuji are at the bottom of food chain. so i think that is why nobody recommends it

While I don't know about the prices in Malaysia (I'm in Taiwan).... the F200EXR cost only ~60% the price of LX3/S90.

I don't think the IXUS's and the sony compacts etc can match the Fuji's for value.

Anyway, basically it's a kiasu issue I suppose.

1. I never provided help with reading reviews being my source.

2. Canon also came up with their own high ISO technology, just that they didn't give it a name. Also, 'seem pretty promising' may not be promising.

3. I seriously have a problem with your recommendations, because you recommend based on your preference. We recommend based on the best of the best. While Sony may be good (and from what I've seen, it's merely above average) it still has long to go to beat Canon/Panasonic out of the top ranks.

I think you'll need to do a re-evaluation before providing recommendations like these as you're not helping.

Fuji definitely value for money but in M'sia, people prefer to go for better quality as most think RM300+ is a small difference.

Also, just FYI, F200EXR is RM1.2k+- in M'sia. RM300 more can get us a Canon Powershot S90/Panasonic Lumix TZ-7/LX-3.

1. agreed. Even i don't consider other users review in my decision.
2. There's a reason why i use the word 'seem' and not merely a 'promising'
3. Well, like i say, it's up to u. But seriously, i apologize if i offended u in any ways. Perhaps i can be wrong, but if u're saying that im not helping, well, i do feel a lil' upset with that.
