Hi, I need help from sifu sifu here. I wish to paint my master bedroom but I dunno which paint i shld buy. Since i choose to use ICI product, I hope sifu sifu here can help me to solve some of my confusion here...

1. what ICI paint to use for plaster ceiling? (maxilite or pentalite classic or pentalite easyclean) ?

2. Do i need to sealer/primer the plaster ceiling 1st before painting? If yes, which product shld i used? (Dulux Alkali Resisting Interior Wall Sealer or Dulux Adhesion Promoting Interior Wall Primer or Glidden Wall Sealer 368)

3. what ICI paint to use for wall?  (pentalite classic or pentalite easyclean) ?

4. Do i need to sealer/primer the wall 1st before painting? If yes, which product shld i used? (Dulux Alkali Resisting Interior Wall Sealer or Dulux Adhesion Promoting Interior Wall Primer or Glidden Wall Sealer 368)

5. what paint shld i used for the door wooden door/window frame/door frame ?
Hope sifu sifu here can guide me thru!!!

Thxs!!!

1. Maxilite will do for ceiling. No primer needed. Pentalite will be too costly for you.

3. For wall, Pentalite is recommended. P/Glo will make the unevenness of your wall obvious since it is shiny-type.

4. Depending on the condition of your wall. Sealer is recommended in most cases.

5. Gloss paint.

Guys! Question. Sealer = "Sui Chat" in canton?
*
Sui Chat means water-based paint. Sealer/Primer is yeok sui(Direct translation: Medicine)

is there any juton suppliers in LYF ? i wan buy juton majestic optima.

also mr.paintman  paint  quality ok ar is it good as the shop people claim?
*
Mind sharing why did you choose Optima?

Mr. Paint Man. Why some of the paint shops are hard-selling MPM? Reason is they get more benefit from selling other paint. Something like they co-own this company.
And about the quality, they previously/still assigning another company to produce the paint for them. I'm not really sure whether MPM have their own production-factory now. But they did source the paint from outside and repack it as MPM. And it comes in 4.5L which is 10% less.

RM 82 is quite a good deal already. Not sure if some others are selling at a lower price though.

Anyone had used nippon spotless before? Previously I bought 3 cans and paint a room. It didn't turn out very well. Could be bcos of our bad skill and not very good roller. Now goinv to hire pro to paint but wonder if they can paint nippon spotless nicely. So anyone use spotless and it turned out great?

No need to hire pros unless the existing surface sucks/is peeling off.. just add 10% water to the paint and then use NEW roller..ace hardware sells the thailand orange ones..very good as they are center-balanced.

bought some "so called heavy duty" roller from hardware shop for rm10 but they sucked big time, as the roller is not centered (not balanced)..very tiring to paint

Funny, some painters quoted me excluding the ceiling!!!

I decided to let my indo contractors do the painting and I supply the paint. Job including wood and metal work painting. No color limitation. Estimated total cost will be in the region of RM4k for a standard DS.

No rocket science, 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of paint.

I have chosen Kansai paint. Chat with the color consultant, very happy with the recommended color choice.

Unfortunately, prices go up starting April.

Beware of this Indonesian conman contractor Falto Warsito Yudya.

Absconded with people's money and left a mess behind.
Disappeared and victims looking for him if he is still in Johor.

9 out of 10 are going to be your nightmares.

Go and read my post in the http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003102748980.

The moment you give the work to them, you are snared. Indonesians workmanship definitely sucks. The good workmanship that you may see is only in the beginning to con you in letting your guard down. Everything that an Indonesian worker produces, you must personally look at them when they do or you cannot imagine what is being covered.

I am like you, race and nationality blind until this painful experience with this conman and the rest of the Indonesian workers.

Please share my post to warn others. Thank you.

Hi, im painting contractor...

my advice if u want good quality works and long lasting result you got to spend more..

If you spent little, the painter will rush the painting job and will get undesirable result and messy..

sometimes the painter will skip the painting process and cheating here and there..

Painting process..

1) Prep - make the surface smooth and ready to paint... (waterjet or clean the fungus, patch up cracks and holes, scrape old paint flakes, skim coating)
if many flakes come out and rusty - paint remover and sand paper will do and it will cost you.. )

2) Undercoat - with 1 coat of sealer/primer...(new ceilings and walls must put undercoat)

3) Finishing touch - with 2 or (3 coat if neceesary) of finishing paints..

For people with tight budget cheaper emulsion paint will do like Matex gold (5litre RM 60) or q lac from nippon. it can last many years if done with undercoat...Some people go for cheaper paint bcoz they want to change colors few years later..so its up to u..

For exterior get the weatherbond/weathershield/jotashield or something similar. use undercoat..undercoat..undercoat...never use interior paint or cheap emulsion paint...

If you got time opt to buy the paint yourself and ask the contractor to quote for labour.. Nowadays many shop can send the paint to your house so you wont get the trouble to load it to your car and unload it..

if you need my services,

Thanks for your very sincere comments, by the way, would like to seek for your opinions, for plaster ceiling, in term of durability, you will recommend Maxilite Plus Interior or Pentalite Classic as ICI emphasis Maxilite plus suit for economical demand while Pentalite comes with highly durable and also do mentioned suitable for Plaster while Maxilite only emphasis interior ceiling but didnt mention for plaster ceiling.

Btw your service coverage area up to which part?

1) same also but sealer/primer is a undercoat but undercoat is not necessarily a sealer or primer..any paint u put b4 finishing coat is an undercoat... Nowadays nippon have a new type of paint called undercoat/sealer .

undercoat - works to hide old paint colour so that u have more easier to paint the finishing coat.. (x perlu tebal2)
sealer/primer - works to bind new paint on to old paint like glue..

2) yes.new ceiling.. its better than not..

3) ya .same

4) door and grill also need undercoat especially if the old paint is not suitable to receive new paint..make sure to sand and wipe clean it b4 painting..

Hi mordenkainen007

I was told that I can use ici maxilite as undercoat on wall.
Can I use the same for ceiling & plaster ceiling? If can, I must paint with pentalite or can just leave it like that meaning maxilite is the finishing paint.

Grill - I did not use undercoat so the paint is not even on the grill. Do I sand it and repaint with undercoat before the color paint?

I saw Nippon got sealer & primer 2 in 1, can this be use on everything like ceiling, wall, grill & door?

Can I use undercoat from Nippon and then paint with ici? Mix brand can or not?

If your wall still in bare, use proper undercoat rather maxillite. It last very long and the paint stick strongly. You can stick any thing to the wall without the paint peel off.

Grill use metal primer. Either come in black or red. Any hardware shop can buy. Just tell them antirust paint for metal or primer for metal. You can sand it off and apply the primer. But it pain in the ass. Fast way use pain remover.

You can use any undercoat brand with different brand paint. No problem at all.

Metal primer and wall primer is different.

1) Do you mean something like pentalite instead of maxilite? Can use it on ceiling as well as wall? The existing old wall is dark color and I want to paint light color tongue.gif

2) Metal primer in black or red? unsure.gif I will have trouble covering it with light color then. Agree on the sanding part. Not all old paint is removable. So surface is not smooth like new. Not sure if I should try paint remover.

3) Nippon - Prime & Coat 2-in-1 seems like can use on everything. Wonder if I should just buy this one and apply on ceiling. wall, doors and grill before I put final paint.

BTW, what paint do you use? Nippon or ICI?

1) PEntalite is a paint and not primer. Since the wall already have paint, than you don't need primer. Just maxilite undercoat and the paint. If you want apply primer, you got to scrap out the old paint. Ceiling is same as the wall.

2) if you want to paint light color on the grill, than red should be ok. Paint remover is the only choice if you want complete remove the old paint.

3) not sure with this Nippon. Check the product manual or ask those hardware shop.

2) grill & door - will try apply dulux speed undercoat dulu, then apply the paint i bought that day. If this fail.... maybe use paint remover. Hope don't have to do this.

3) Ok.

Thank you very much, Ozak!

If don't use undercoat, takut the dark color timbul, or have to paint many layer. Don't mind getting cheaper paint but I don't know what other paint are nice and reliable. Just hope I don't have to repaint for many years coz painting is not easiest job for me tongue.gif

Added on December 6, 2011, 9:42 pmozak, I was recommended to paint sealer instead of undercoat on grill & door (bought sealer from federal paint). Then baru paint the glossy finishing. It works!

Added on December 6, 2011, 9:44 pmAlso just found out that even ICI has different types of sealer for ceiling and wall. Ada grade 1 and grade 2, and glidden is grade 2 category huh.gif

Grade? Never heard B4.
Anyway, I got quoted for jotun majestic royale matt (eco health range) 5L for RM100, strax easy clean (white-for plaster ceiling) 20L for RM220. Is this normal or expensive?
