I was told that Jotun, Nippon & ICI are same range but in terms of pricing, Jotun is the most expensive, then ICI, then Nippon.

I got quoted for as follows:-
Jotun strax - 5L at RM82, Sealer 20L at RM178
ICI Pentalite - classic and easy clean - 5L at RM76, Sealer at RM140 (forgot 18L or 20L)
Nippon easy wash range - 18L at RM225, Sealer at RM140 (not sure 18 or 20L)

Prices are after discount also. Anybody found cheaper paint elsewhere?

To keep in mind that price for ICI paint is depend on colour selection and believed the RM76 is the base, hence you need to compared it with what colour you plan to have, than do the comparision.
As the shop (Puchong) offer base was RM79 for Pentalite / Pearl Glo RM91 / Ligh & Space RM 100 / and Supreme RM110, but end up due to colour of selection, some are higher.
I purcahse the ICI Glidden Wall Sealer (Code 15368) 20L with RM 170

Meaning, I should choose the color first, then go to different shops to check pricing right? I actually love the antibacterial paint but damn expensive sweat.gif

Hi, im painting contractor...

my advice if u want good quality works and long lasting result you got to spend more..

If you spent little, the painter will rush the painting job and will get undesirable result and messy..
sometimes the painter will skip the painting process and cheating here and there..

Painting process..
1) Prep -  make the surface smooth and ready to paint... (waterjet or clean the fungus, patch up cracks and holes, scrape old paint  flakes, skim coating)
if many flakes come out and rusty - paint remover and sand paper will do and it will cost you.. )

2) Undercoat - with 1 coat of sealer/primer...(new ceilings and walls must put undercoat)

3) Finishing touch - with 2 or (3 coat if neceesary) of finishing paints..

For people with tight budget cheaper emulsion paint will do like Matex gold (5litre RM 60) or q lac from nippon. it can last many years if done with  undercoat...Some people go for cheaper paint bcoz they want to change colors few years later..so its up to u..

For exterior get the weatherbond/weathershield/jotashield or something similar. use undercoat..undercoat..undercoat...never use interior paint or cheap emulsion paint...

If you got time opt to buy the paint yourself and ask the contractor to quote for labour.. Nowadays many shop can send the paint to your house so you wont get the trouble to load it to your car and unload it..

if you need my services,

U can find me here on my blog...zekpainter.blogspot.com

Hi mordenkainen007

I was told that I can use ici maxilite as undercoat on wall.
Can I use the same for ceiling & plaster ceiling? If can, I must paint with pentalite or can just leave it like that meaning maxilite is the finishing paint.

Grill - I did not use undercoat so the paint is not even on the grill. Do I sand it and repaint with undercoat before the color paint?

I saw Nippon got sealer & primer 2 in 1, can this be use on everything like ceiling, wall, grill & door?

Can I use undercoat from Nippon and then paint with ici? Mix brand can or not?

If your wall still in bare, use proper undercoat rather maxillite. It last very long and the paint stick strongly. You can stick any thing to the wall without the paint peel off.

Grill use metal primer. Either come in black or red. Any hardware shop can buy. Just tell them antirust paint for metal or primer for metal. You can sand it off and apply the primer. But it pain in the ass. Fast way use pain remover.

You can use any undercoat brand with different brand paint. No problem at all.

Metal primer and wall primer is different.

1) Do you mean something like pentalite instead of maxilite? Can use it on ceiling as well as wall? The existing old wall is dark color and I want to paint light color tongue.gif

2) Metal primer in black or red? unsure.gif I will have trouble covering it with light color then. Agree on the sanding part. Not all old paint is removable. So surface is not smooth like new. Not sure if I should try paint remover.

3) Nippon - Prime & Coat 2-in-1 seems like can use on everything. Wonder if I should just buy this one and apply on ceiling. wall, doors and grill before I put final paint.

BTW, what paint do you use? Nippon or ICI?

1) so summary, ceiling - paint maxilite first, then pentalite (white). Wall - paint maxilite first, then pentalite (pink) tongue.gif

2) grill & door - will try apply dulux speed undercoat dulu, then apply the paint i bought that day. If this fail.... maybe use paint remover. Hope don't have to do this.

3) Ok.

Thank you very much, Ozak!

2) no need dulux undercoat lah. Can get those cheaper primer will do the job. Want easy job, just apply another layer paint.

If don't use undercoat, takut the dark color timbul, or have to paint many layer. Don't mind getting cheaper paint but I don't know what other paint are nice and reliable. Just hope I don't have to repaint for many years coz painting is not easiest job for me tongue.gif

Added on December 6, 2011, 9:42 pmozak, I was recommended to paint sealer instead of undercoat on grill & door (bought sealer from federal paint). Then baru paint the glossy finishing. It works!

Added on December 6, 2011, 9:44 pmAlso just found out that even ICI has different types of sealer for ceiling and wall. Ada grade 1 and grade 2, and glidden is grade 2 category huh.gif
