well.. they are mostly copy of akg k240 (superlux hd681B) and beyer dt880
(superflux HD330) superflux is a company from taiwan.. someone did review the hd618b, as from the review it has nearly identical sound.. i cant say much unless there are a pair that i can get lay my hands on |

Superlux 668B in da house! 
Not very comfortable at first. So I rolled some tissue paper and insert it in between the pads and the cups, and it's much better. A Head-fier dude claims that this increases bass or whatever-the-heck which I couldn't be bothered with. Burn-in til now approx 10-20 hours. I let my friend who owns an IE8 to test it out. He mentioned that the separation is very good. I agree after listening to Andy McKee-Art of Motion and Kings of Convenience-Mrs Cold: both of which has multiple guitars being finger plucked. I've never heard any headphones beyond RM30 crap from Lowyat Plaza, so I'm in no position to say how good it is. As far as I'm concerned, it's got good clarity and more detail than Sony NC22 IEM (the NC22 is already a pretty good IEM, IMO). Low bass still sounds a tiny bit boomy for my liking. For RM130 (after nego with the sales staff), you can't go wrong with it. Apparently it's not a popular model in Instraco, because the salesperson took a quite bit of time digging through the inventory to locate it. Maybe I should replace Superlux logo with AKG & bring it to Jaben gathering, and see what the big-shots think of it.  Now, time to build a CMOY to go with it. w00t! After 30 hours,there's a difference in before and after burn-in.It's more balanced now. Overall the sound is smooth now.However I noticed that there's a bit coloration that you usually found on high-end headphones.Personally speaking the headphone still not balanced to me yet.The mids for it is not that flat either and the bass is not as tight as I expected it to me.The sound detail produced is not that much really as well. From the beginning I noticed that there's something wrong with it's treble,the sound decay to fast which is not natural at all to me. So I try to open the foam which being covered in front of the driver itself.It was to protect the driver from dust and sweat.To my surprise the treble is much more refined and more natural then before. This is the best modification that I ever tried on HD668B.What you need to do is just open the foam that protect the driver,put the earpads back and you'll hear the improvement on treble afterwards. If you see this closely the foam that was being used is too thick really.Go try and see if there's any sunlight going though the foam itself,you'll notice that there's only a little sunlight managed to go though it in the end.From this you know that most of the treble has been diffused into this foam. |

Removing the foam disc and the damper sticker increased the bass and boominess. The foam disc and damper are actually some sort of bass port.
And after about a week of burn in and poisoning friends, the bass is getting a bit overwhelming for me (I cannot tahan any bass that is boomy). So I got some blu-tac and cotton. Put a big glob of blu-tac behind the driver magnet, and stuffed a bit cotton---which turned out to be too much---into the outside chamber (Clausdk fish tank filter wool mod). The bass has tightened up by A LOT, too much in fact. Snare drums sounds crazy tight and sharp... I could hear the metal wire snares! Woahahahahahah! But some bass at a certain frequency got eaten up. I think around 100hz and it starts to roll off, under 70hz it's all the way down a cliff. Walking bass of a double-bass could get cut off as the player plays lower & lower; kick drum sound weak and lacks impact; rock songs lacks the oomph. For the truly cheapskate: get the Superlux HD681 for around RM 70-80 and mod the heck out of it.
Rockgrotto forummers mentioned that 681 has more bass and treble, like a V-shape equaliser. More 'fun' sound, and it's audio characteristic allows for more room to mod. Some find the 668B too clinical and flat, not fun enough. ---------- Jazzy, HD-668B... RM120 if buy in bulk of 3 (3 friends kena poisoned). Are you more tempted now?  |

i have tried hd668b, and hd669. i definitely think both cans are much better than sr60i
one problem though, this cans is pretty heavy and will not do very well with cmoy or other portable amp. if you think using portable amp is good, wait until you plug it to a desktop amp like zero dac/amp or cheap tube amp such as indeed/bravo amp..you will hear the true quality of superlux oh, forgot to mention 1 more think. this cans improves greatly after recable  |

Yesterday I send an email to INSTRACO asking for the price of superlux HD681 and Mr Keong (their sales person I think)from the company replied this morning. He said the price for the can is RM85.

668B is RM130 681 is RM85. (in fact, there are 3 version: 681, 681F[orward], 681B[alance]) Different character sound. Both sounds good according to reviews. There's also the 669 and 660 which are closed headphones. Why not check out http://www.superlux.tw They describe the character of each headphone by comparing their own headphones to other brands (Senn, Shure, Beyer) with frequency response charts. This is what it says about the 668B: "Both the HD668B and DT990 have a similar frequency curve. The HD668B delivers a natural and excellently balanced sound, presenting the crystal clarity and high resolution demanded by professional users." LOL! The graph only tells you what characteristics it has. It doesn't tell you the transparency, sound stage, clarity, detail, hiss, etc... It may sound like DT990, but maybe it doesn't have the same level of detail, or sound stage, or etc. I don't know, i've never heard the DT990 before. In all honesty, I wouldn't believe that it would be on the same level as the DT990. 668B is very-very good, but it's not magic. Get one and compare it with your DT990 lah. I have done a quick survey around seremban town this morning and found two shop selling HD681(this model only) but their price tag quiet mahal...RM120.
Itu asoi cakap: "Tak bleh kulang lagi laa...ini balang baik punya". I wonder how she knows this can is good? Have she tried it before? May be she is an audiophile like us also....haha... who knows? |

Nope.
The one claimed to have V shape is 681, by Rockgrotto forummers. 668B apparently is more neutral. Superlux's website compares it's 668B to DT990 and claims that it has similar sound signature. |

bro iamyuanwu i doubt different canare cables have diff sound coz the core inside i find is the same.. just that l4e6s has 4 cores and l2t2s has 2 cores.. the koss recable is PCwork's trade secret lol.. if ppl know the the cable and experiment till it sounds the same as his product.. how can he cari makan
i have 2 superlux here.. and a bunch of canare l4e6s and also a few different connectors .. but both of them aren't mine so i can't test them yet and give a review .. but im going back melaka tomorrow by then i can test the cables + heaphone hehehehe |

The Impression Of Superlux HD668B A must have headphone for any budget audiophiles around. So I opened the box,impressed with what it have inside.It's a pleasant surprise that they include a carrying pouch with it so that you can carry the headphone everywhere easily.Honestly for the price given I didn't expect it to give any extra stuff other then the headphone alone.The headphones comes with two cables with different length (1m and 3m each) since the headphone can be detachable from it's cable,convenient really.It's pretty useful if you're into certain occasion where you need either the long cable or the short ones for your listening pleasure.The cable clip has been given to prevent the cable to be detached from your headphone easily.Kinda neat but I didn't bother to put it on since the attachment from the headphone and the cable is pretty strong to me so far.Last and not least a 3.5mm to 6.3mm converter and a B&O manual book which is thick,containing about what stuff they provided inside the box and some instruction on how to wear the headphones,etc.  Sure looks plasticky isn't it?Wait until you hear it sings through your ears The first thing I do on this headphone is removing the foam that covers the driver completely.Yeah as said by others it is thick and probably by using it probably most of the small detail of the song will be damped into the foam itself,making the overall sound quality to be decreased by miles.Also I'm kinda wondered why the hell they put the sticker at the drivers as well.Removed that afterwards and yeah now I got a clear view on how's the driver looks like inside.It's looks similar to KSC75 driver but it's bigger by comparison.Oh well when everything settles I plugged it in with my newly brought Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1.Already burning in since last week and it shows impressive result on my beyer dt770.Clicked the play button on my foobar and oh my god it sounds better then my SR60.I shit bricks afterwards   Although the impedance of the driver is just 56 ohm each,I found that this headphone requires a really good amplifier to drive it nicely To my surprise,this is the first sub-RM500 headphone that can beat alessandro MS1 in large margin.Better separation,better clarity,punchier yet still controlled bass and better,wider soundstage has been showed to me.It still lose comparing to beyerdynamic DT440 though since the beyer has more advantage on soundstage. The mids is far smoother then the beyer DT440 which is great considering the fact that harsher mids brings more simbilance on vocal songs.I'm kinda stunned for a short time after all this though.Great headphone with ripped off price.That's something you don't see everyday lol.  Maverick Audio Tubemagic D1 has been used to test the capability of superlux HD688B.In the end I found it the HD668 manage to sync very nicely with it. Nice one. Canare cables.... here I come! I took the foam disc + "damper sticker" out and put them back again. More detailed (I think, but I couldn't really be sure with my sucky hearing ability). Stick a glob of blu-tac to the back of the driver (right on the back of the magnet). It adds weight to the driver unit, and the blu-tac probably absorbs some of the reverb too. The bass will be reduced and tighten up by a huge margin. And if you add wee bit of cotton/wool around the outer chamber, the bass will be reduced and tightened up further. err.. unfortunately its 668b hahaha....... i guess its due to a proper DAC and amp :/ i tested at the shop also i was like lol.. and when i test it again back here i was amazed
with the foam intact i felt that its very veiled and the sticker cause a rattling sound... i persuaded hitman to take em off, now with both of them removed and the now exposed driver .. totally clear lol now its still in the burn in.. gonna let it ready then only start with crazy mods.. gonna try tame the bass a first the mids and highs are already good enough alreadyalso jazzy.. the other shop i assume is also intsraco coz there's 2 shops named instraco |

 After 20 hours of burning in the headphone,I decided that it's time for me to put it to the test : How it sounds like in unamp condition? It's a well known claim for most superlux HD668B users is that although the headphone only has the impedance of 56 ohm each of it's drivers,it's still requires an amp to drive it very well.For me I expect it to produce lesser bass while the separation of the sound is getting harder to notice.I plugged in the headphone into my good'ol soundcard : EMU 0404 and after a few configuration I started playing one song from foobar2k.I was amazed once more. It doesn't sound as bad I thought it would be.The bass has become lesser yes but the separation between sounds can be noticed quite well.The treble has become slightly harsher and the soundstage,doesn't change at all even one bit.I'm quite happy with the performance of this headphone right now.It sounds really well in both condition (properly amp and unamp condition).So now I don't have to worry about bringing this headphone everywhere to spread the poison around my friends without any amp at all! Would it be better to recable it all the way into the driver unit, or just up to the short plug?
I am thinking: if I were to recable, might as well go all the way on both left & right sides... since opening the 668B is super idiot proof. And it uses the 2 steel wires over the head as cables to the right... not exactly desirable, IMO. |

yup.. you should try that
, it'll be more balanced but take note about the cables split cables tangles easily.. or i suggest putting the cable across the headband instead of having split wires (it was my intention to do that)im darn tempted to try out the bluetack, foam and lastly some sponge mod; i also have a pair of phillips velour pads which should fit onto the superlux snugly.. really wanna how it will sound like with these unfortunately i lost my chance to mod that pair, i doubt i can try to do any mods on the HD668b coz i have assignments to handle and the headphone is not mine to begin with ..  so i am looking forward for bro yuanwu's mod maybe bring it to jaben during a gathering  |

Pop the "Superlux" & "HD 668B 2x56ohms" caps off, unscrew 2 screws, stick a glob of blu-tac without breaking the cables, add a bit of cotton around the outer chamber, screw everything back. |

lol, is this headphones really so nice, coz i have read some reviews in chinese, they said that this hd668b is kinda of harsh for the high pitch, need to burn in for 300hours in order to reduce the harshness

i manage to pick up some really unique cables... its pure copper solid core cables scavenged from a telephone line lol.. not the one indoor but the one on telephone posts (dont ask me where i find them
) very tempted to use them and make a cable for the HD668b hahahahha |

Those phone cables are kinda stiff and if you bend them too much, they break easily due to 'cold work'..

yea its pretty fragile.. but there's a very hard and solid steel wire sleeved together with the copper which i doubt the cable can bend at all
(its meant for outdoor usage after all hahahahah)but i guess its worth the try for the sake of trying since its free |

Cables and the materials does somewhat affects how the sound is being perceived.
In my case, I moved on from that cable as I was just 'experimenting'. I did not like how it sounded. I found a more suitable cable at the corner hardware store.. Bottom line is, if you like the sound, why not! |

I bought HD681 this morning.
My first impression was......WOW!  I was so surprised. Just out of the box the sound quality of this can is damp good. Lets burn in.......untill betul2 masak then I'll compare with my MS1i. |

So I plugged it into an onboard soundcard.It doesn't sound any good at all.
Even my good'ol philips SHP805 sounds better in that condition.So after couple of minutes I swapped it with Pcwork's recabled KSC75.Feels better again once more |

I got meself a 681 this afternoon! yep.. the 686 is currently out of stock, but there were 330 and 360 models.. and a Samson model too. I tried them all but I like the 681 within 3 seconds of auditioning! Am listening to it right now.. need to 'burn in' for few hours but heck I'm impressed! Will do that soon! I have plenty to write. Now at wee hours its great to do critical listening, spinning my reference discs...
I'll break the 10-20 hours first which should be sufficient to post any impressions. As it is now.. it is 'sweet' and on all counts satisfied my listening preferences as far as headphones listening is concerned. Of course at this price any complaints seem unjustified. There are obviously better phones at higher prices, no doubt about it, but it certainly give the more expensive ones a run for the money! This reminds me of the T-Amp, TA-2024 specifically.. I did saw some IEMS there but did not gave them a try as they were NOT plugged into the 4 channel headphone amp that was used to test the display units.

The B22 is excellent but nah.. I have some circuits that I cooked up (modifications from a basic circuit) Maybe a tube headphone amp..see how lah.. hehe But at this point of time, the built in headphone amp that comes with the CDP(high end unit) is of high quality and kick ass, I'd be happy with it for a while... if the the HD669 is definitely better than the HD668b, i will call up the shop without wait! But there is no review at all for theHD669 Is there any demo for HD669 at INSTRACO? there's a construction nearby punya.. try to recognize the logo (the shop looks pretty old).. and also, i dont think they open on sundays
btw.. besides superlux, i also find switchcraft plugs and canare amongst their goods @kain.. this is superlux has a very diff sig as of HD650.. scared that if you got used to it, you will find it hard to change :/ in my opinion it sounds pretty close in between the beyer dt440 and sr60 .. tho i got a friend who was more impressed with superlux than the MS1 hitman did post regarding swapping the stock with direct canare to a dac ...tho without amp, it already sounds very close to the same with amp but stock cable... the canare is terminated with RCA and a female 3.5.. so didnt really try it out on a headphone amp This post has been edited by Bonchi: Aug 22 2010, 07:18 PM |

Contrary to what other say, I don't find 681 sound like 'V shaped equalizer', in fact I found it quite balanced even for someone like me who don't like too much bass. The bass is plentiful and comes in a large quantity but it doesn't overpower the entire spectrum so it doesn't annoy me who like more neutral sound, the high is quite nice, its way better than Sennheiser which have some sort of 'veil' on treble but its not piercing or shrill to hear. There is some sort of air too, feels like you hear through speaker. Headphone itself is light and very comfortable even when wearing glasses.
For the price, I don't think any other headphone could come close. Highly recommended for someone who new this audiophilia world |

There are a few Instraco stores in Jalan Pasar itself. And their signboards are old, faded and obscure. So you'll have to search properly. I'm here for 2 thing, since they is so many people telling me how good the Superlux headphone is, as per described from lowyat forumer here. so i m so curious and have a look here... 1. Modded KSC75 do not sound near to Ms1i...That is a fact, i do really respect the effort contributed by PcWorks, my closed partner, However, i need the speak the truth here, Modded KSC75 have very good transparency, it refined the details from stock cable and make the sound very polite and if you give it a serious amp, it sound seriously good  . However, i personally find that MS1i is sound better anyhow. as from the music presenation, and from the sound seperations, and from any other aspect, i find that modded ksc75 is not near to Ms1i in term of sound presentation and performances. However, from value wise, KSC75 rocksss 2. Also, for Superlux. I dont think it beat Ms1i as well So sorry i m not disrespect of any fans here. I try most of the model, maybe all of the model... The initial point is not passed. It do not sound analog for me, it is far too digital for music presentations. The separations and detail presentation is awesome no doubt, but it is just very digital, Making your movie/music sound very dry...As such, personally, i will not rated that to be anyhow as good as ms1i, or even grado sr60i. Selection of headphones and earphones will finally come down to personal preference even though comparatively,they might be good as well.
And yeah,KSC 75 is much more portable than MS 1. And it's hard for ppl to carry a RM 4XX headphone,at least for my case no. Anyway,KSC 75 recabled version is much more better than stock one,appearance wise also much better. Thanks to PcWork. |

Sorry about the KSC75 recabled vs. MS1 thingy through.Probably because I like the recabled KSC75 very much I tend to be bias when comes to putting it against any other headphones models that supposed to be very good,at some point even better then the recabled KSC75 itself. i think the superlux is just nice for ppl who just want a decent sound and not spending alot...
for some or id say most audiophile.. this pair wouldn't be that impressive in terms of performance if put along side with those that cost 4 times or more.. but price wise is crazy, to actually have details that can match to some midrange but as you know.. the presentation is not there. to those who actually liked this superlux alot.. then youre lucky that it exists, tho to me its just an eye opener and a new stuff to intro to my pals who wants a decent but cheap pair of headphones |

I would say superlux headphones are the best bang for the buck of the decade.
My first full size headphone was a cheap philips SHP 2700 which it price is about the same HD681 but in terms of sound quality is like heaven and earth. I tell you it's like heaven and earth. heh.. thats why i used "considered" cuz even though it is not a rip off .. the majority will think that it is .. well its because its not oem.. its not rebrand but took up the same appearance.. heck even the original akg pads will fit on to superlux perfectly

With the emergence of Superlux, is there a drop in sales suffered by AKG and the others? I doubt it. I see Superlux as a cheaper alternative with similar performance to the chosen familiar names. |

its just the cosmetic point of view cuz the patent inside the cans is still not infringed by superlux.. so its safe to say that superlux didnt completely took up AKG's headphone design entirely
but regarding that matter... i did read about on the beyer side with the Superlux HD660 .. something did happen regarding copyrights, tho ive tried looking back for it in my browsing history but i cant find it :/ |

I have no issues with hiss since day one with my 681.. hiss comes from the source/hardware.

mine is tested the same on the akm4396 DAC as well.. but the sponge/foam cover in front of the driver is removed and the dunno_why_is_it_there sticker is removed as well .. but i doubt that removes the hiss.. but your hiss is treated by burn in so its no longer a problem already

My HD681 also no hiss problem straight out of the pack. But I think this cans need amping to bring out their potential. I've tried it directly to my laptop...... the detail is there but the bass department was suffered a lot.

 Recabled to dual entry. Cable held in place using bunched-up rubber bands---works as well any other cable strain relief. Canare plug which is 2x as thick & almost as heavy as the Sony digital audio player (DAP). Blu-tac behind the driver magnet. Added rolled tissue paper in the earpad/cushion. Foam disc and 'acoustic damper' paper removed. A pair of socks over the earpad/cushion so that it doesn't become sweaty and sticky. In past three days ago I was enjoy listening to music using my new Hippo gumstik. Using HD668b, HD681 and MS1i. Hippo gumstik really has brought me to the levels which I had never enjoyed before.
Before this I was not very happy with the performance of HD668b and was thinking to let it go but this gumstick have highlighted it real potential. I found that HD668B was very good headphone, very detailed, well balanced and the bass really go low. The trible and mid sound nice and not harsh at all. Compare to the HD 681, which was very bright and bass heavy but I still can enjoy it. According to some rockgrotto forummers, after some mod this headphone can compete senn HD650! One day I'll try this mod. While Ms1i performance is equal to HD668b, the treble was so sweet and the string instrument like electric guitar really shine. The bass are punchy but not as low as HD668b. But sadly I cant appreciate grado's typical 'on you face' signature. Most of the tracks I used are mp3 192 and 320kbps. Flac? waaaa ..... HD800, costs more than 3 times that of the HD600. The latter will do lah, though it looks like a kitchen counter top, I am not ashamed of it ....

I checked with the sole distributor Instraco(03-9221 8897) few days ago.
They said need to wait for another 3 months. 3 months ago they also gave me the same answer. They always start with the same question, asking you how many unit you need. If your answer is only one, then they will say: "Sorry we are out of stock!". I doubt that they are not interested selling it to the end users like us, unless you place an order in bulk! So I have no choice to look for elsewhere, buy it online maybe! |

Actually I can bring in most of the Superlux series as well as the HD668B... Though the price might not be as good as instraco's pricing. Perhaps trio can offer us a good price there. |

I owned HD688B. This headphone is really good for the price(I bought it RM150 from chchyong89....thanks bro :-)). Very detail, deep and control bass and wider soundstage compare to MS1. But beware.......you really need an amp to make it sings well.

668B sounds pretty good just by itself. An amp and some simple mods would make it better. I plug it in directly into an MP3 player without an amp and it plays superbly.

Err, no pic of the process yet. But it really is damn friggin easy to open it up.
Just place a knife tip/mini screwdriver on the 12 o'clock position (there's a small space below the cap at that position)and pop the caps (the ones labelled 'Superlux' and 'HD668B 2x56 ohms'). Then it's just simply unscrewing a few screws and fooling around with it. Later I post some pics when I'm not so swamped with work. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

just reminded me of my Denon AD2000, remove a few screws and the whole thing comes apart, replace damping material inside, add this add that, finally put it back into the box, tuck it in a corner somewhere, I think I put it there .... |

Why dual entry?
1. So both L & R signal pass through the same amount of wire. I don't trust that steel cable headband as a signal conductor. And some users have reported that when the head band vibrates (due to movement or whatever), it affects the sound. 2. Because I can. My listening ability is not good enough to notice any differences... I just do it for the heck of it. =D |

I've been listening to superlux HD668 for quite a while already before trying yours in Jaben last time.Hence the different can be heard pretty clear to me
Anyway for velour pads I already tried those before.Comfortable as hell on my HD668 in comparison with the stock pads that HD668 come up with.I haven't notice the sound quality change yet since I tried those for a short while only. I'll go and see my friend later and see if he can lend me the K240 for a while soon. |

The amplifier has been out quite some time loh. Just that Headfonia recently reviewed it.
IIRC, Instraco uses it with the 681 for customers to test the headphones. |

It can be powered by an external adaptor!

i wont be expecting too much of the 668B.. im looking at its price/performance factor.. it is not fair to compare it to hd650 or dt990 for that matter..

For AKG K240/K270 velour pads (fits both 668B and 681), I'm not sure locally what's the price or who's the distro. Can someone check Jaben's pricing?

ive looked at jaben malaysia's product list.. and it seems that the dont have any velour pads for sale.. lots of beyer pads though..

Got my HD681 today.I found that the the HD681 has laid back sound signature compared to HD688B which is flat.Definitely has less detail but I can enjoy the songs more with HD681 now

Are you using a headphone amp to drive?
HD681 is far from laid back, I found it very forward especially the vocals at at times can be a little 'harsh' on midrange especially on those low bit rate mp3s. I do not use any headphone amp with it. Just got 668b. Play some song (flac n mp3)..this is comparison for 3 headphone (akg 240s, beyer dt880 250 ohm n superlux 668b)
240s = erm..kinda muffled n slightly bloated in bass, roll-of in treble..n mellow mids. Soundstage is okay to me (not to forward n not to backward) 880 = high energy in treble...slight recessed in mid..bass is just enough n well textured(dance/hip hop etc type of song..i dont it has that bass punch...basshead lover please go denon or sony extra bass xb500/xb700) . Bigger soundstage than 240s. 668b = kinda "v" equalizer...and almost no soundstage (too forward). Treble is quite harsh...but the it has bass punch..but lacks on textured. Suddenly it remind me on grado sr60/sr80 sound signature. p/s = this comparison of 0 hours (668b) vs well burn-in headhone. Source audio-gd compass + littleghost dBLite |

got both of my 668b as well as 681... i prefer 668b better than the 681.. i find that 681 is too harsh to my liking.. both are burned in an clocked the same hours..

It still won't go too far even if properly amp since it's quite sensitive. |

Not sure yet still haven't open it. Now i'm still having the wow factor with the HD668B even straight out of the box. It's on par with Dt880 in performance but they take a different approach in their sound signature. Dt880 still will win if properly driven but i don't think it would be too far.

Tried out 681 and 660 today,
A snip review, 660 focus more on vocals rather than bass like 681. I tried on few songs that mainly focus on bass and I had to say that 681 give more punchy bass sound than 660. In short word, 660 sounds more clarity or maybe suit those who seek vocals sound than the music. 681 focus more on bass and the vocal are not crispy as 660 did. However, I would like to try out 668B that everyone has been crazy for or perhaps getting one for myself (*eyes-rolling*) Thats my 2 cent |

Blutack to hold the pads? Haha.. Socks is the most elegant way to mount the pads to the driver as it is elastic.. Recabled my 668b just now cause i accidently spoiled the inner wirings while i was taking a peek.. Neutrik plug with some leftover cables from my previous projects.. The factory cable is rather low in quality honestly..

it can be driven with any source.. my ipod touch can drive even up to unbearable loudness, despite that the 668b will definitely helps with an amp.. im using a cmoy with LME49720NA as the opamp ( sound similar to opa627 )... opens up the soundstage nicely..

i tried 381 before. its good....really...XD
381b good for vocal. it gives out the hall sound effect. very bad for techno 381f good for almost everything 381 only good for songs that emphasized bass and is slow and not that noisy in nature. but all of them are detailed. |

After few hours of listening 668b..finally i manage to adapt its sound signature..but not the force clamp on my head
its treble n mids gets better after few hours (at least of 12 hours) of white noise generator..not as 'hot' at 0 hours.. |

Just got my 668B from bro trio, first impression... impressive but bear in mind this is my first headphone set. Previously using B&O earphones, 668B is such a big upgrade haha.. As mention before, not very comfortable
I tend to get a bit of headache after wearing it but hopefully my body will adapt to it as first time using headphone mah.Agreed with bro trio, this headphone sound much better when amped. Some how or rather when straight out from my Chaintech AV710 the sound is quite thin, I managed to find an old amplifier from my dad's stash of amps, ION Obelisk 150, can't find much info on this amp, but the sound after amped is much better and bass also more punchy. Me only testing with from FLAC mainly Jazz and Aaron Neville. Hope my newbie review will help hehe.. Now gotta burn-in this baby.. Burn burn burn Cheers! |

Un-bend the steel cables to get rid of the death clamp. It will increase the comfort by a HYOOOGE margin.

Received my hd 688b n 681 today.
actually only interested with 688b after little bit reading the review on the net but order 681 from trio out of curiosity Testing my hd 688b with listening 3 album non stop - Metallica S&M, Epica - Consign to Oblivion (Symphonic metal) and Scorpions - Moment of Glory (with Berlin Orchestra). all flac directly connect to laptop without dac or amp. somehow my nokia n900 cannot drive this thing. this headphone stuck on my head nearly for 4 hour. lol Craving for more bass. I wonder if bass sound could increase if properly amped. The other headphone can I access currently just Portapro, Beats by dre and Razer Orca. only recently started this hobby, dunno how to compare but I like the 668b sound better than razor orca. the good thing about orca is i can use it directly with my nokia n900. portapro n beats i thinks in different category. not yet open the 681. maybe tomorow.... |

Apparently, the big blob of blu-tac I placed behind the driver's magnet was absorbing all the bass. The deep bass is there, but barely heard. So I stuck a 1 sen coin on top of the blu-tac to reduce the surface of blu-tac, and to add more weight/inertia to the base of the driver unit. In fact, you'd have to use a bit of strength to straighten it out a bit.As usual, do it bit by bit... until you find the death clamp is comfortable. Mine has very light clamping force---literally just sitting next to my ears. I can wear it all day. But it's a bit too loose, if I move my head around, it falls off. =P I use the soft tissue that comes in a box, not those in rolls used in toilets. I use 2 ply of tissue for the front half and 3 ply for the back. Use as much as you want. It's no biggie. Just fold it in half and roll it nice and tight. Then slide it under the earpads. It should look like this --> ( ) The ori modder mentioned that it improves the bass or something like that. For me, it's adds comfort---I have ears like Dumbo the flying elephant. HD681 sounds nice on onboard souncard compared to HD668B.Although the bass is abit overwhelming at times but with a simple EQ change the problem goes away pretty easily

i find myself stashing my 681 rather than the 668b.. 681 is too sibilant to my liking.. though the bass is good, much deeper than the 668 (thought now that much of margin) the highs are seriously killing my ears.. huhu..

For those interested in how to open up the 668B...
 Pop the cap open from the top (12 o'clock position) with the tip of a blade/knife. There's a tiny space beneath the cap at 12 o'clock position. *Notice that the 2 earpieces are wide apart. I've applied some elbow grease to reduce the death clamp. ---   To access beyond this part, you need to cut the [original] wires (and preferably mod it to dual entry). Modding it to dual entry will make future modifications easier. I also added blu-tac into this space. Rockgrotto forummers replace the outer cover (the one on the bottom right) with an aluminium one to add weight. Well, I can't DIY my own aluminium cover, so I'll have to make do with Blu-Tac. ---      The blu-tac is to increase the weight/inertia of the driver... supposedly to help reduce boom and tightens up everything. YMMV. But the Blu-Tac will absorb A LOT of bass. So the 1 sen coin is added. ---  Hate that faux-leather polyester crap earpads that make you sweaty? Cut up a pair of sock and put it over the earpads. Use the tissue mod to keep the socks in place. I doubt that someone that is buying a superlux will consider buying an amp that is much more expansive than the headphone itself..which is why i suggested the cmoy... About the same price with fiio e5 if you build one yourself.. And sounds much better..

HD660 is even easier to mod. Waayyyyy easier. No screws to unscrew. Just pop it open with a screwdriver or knife and that's it! I am so going to make it dual entry, blu-tac mod it, Senn-HD280-blu-tac-mod it, fibre damp it, & probably get a Beyer DT770 or Philips HP1000 earpads. 0 hour impression: So so only. Not a very big difference compared to my modded-beyond-recognition-668B. Still another 100 hours to go. Pink noise... pink noise!!! I applied as little as possible for the blue tac just now.The bass comes back (finally) but with wider bass extension (bass is somewhat deeper although it's pretty unnoticable most of the time)

so far with my fiio e3, it sux, only usable with those normal headphones/earphones i'd say for my 668B, it's not enough btw i tested with my creative SB Live! 24bit the other day, i find sound coming out from it's kinda flat too. 1st impression of the HD681 i received today.
tested with Eagles HOtel California unplugged..... my ear hurts and tired out fast!! especially during the crowd cheering and whistling! what does this means? the hd681 is too 'bright'(?) for me? i play using foobar, asio4all, prodigy 7.1LT after playing to with some equaliser preset i finally found one which is more gentle on the ears. I do not really know how to tune using equaliser so I am hoping someone can explain the setting i used in the pic below  |

668B will make a bad source sounds horrijiber. If used to listen to lousy amp and not-so-well recorded songs (mostly current pop, rock songs)... it's gonna suck big time. Listening to Pop Pop Music's 2V1G and JZ8 on it is AWE-WOO-AWE-WOO-AWESOME!!!!! My HD681 sounds pretty good direct from my ACER lappy and via the headphone socket of my amplifier. I guess a good hi Q amping would helps.

I think cmoy is better than E5. I've tried HD681 on E5 before but the improvement is very subtle.
IMO E5 only suitable for iem. |

Sound tighter on bass dept as well, previously sound like empty can a bit hahaha I'm leaving it on for burning in with my gumstick, didn't really count how many hours already i burned it but i guess would be around 60-70 hours now |

You can't get the full potential of 668B unless you get an amp so far im good with just the gumstick cos it can drive it nicely..
