Used Papago today to route from Klang to Genting. It was pretty good. Problem is it usually takes quite a while to get a lock on my location. How come you guys getting locks so fast?

Bro, u bought the pro version? coz pro comes with junction view and it really helps. My lock time is around 5 to 10 seconds.
The GPS actually makes the phone very hot and i believe it doesn't charge when the phone gets heated up. Hence connecting it to a charger wont really charge the phone when u r using GPS. |

Yup using pro version. Junction view is the nice little picture that shows the road split right? That's a really nice feature :-D but sometimes eye not concentrating on the iPhone, didn't buy dock. Haha.
I see. But I did notice the battery definitely drained slower with the charger. But yeah, the iPhone gets reaaaally hot! |

Just info.
a-gps is assisted gps. To calculate your location, gps required latest satellite data. This called almanac data. Basically it's contain latest satellite location, this info is required for gps to calculate ur location. This data usually is downloaded through gps satellite itself. But the process required about 30-45 sec. So A-GPS is introduce so this almanac data is downloaded from the server using data line which only take a few second. |

QUOTE(boblp @ Aug 30 2010, 04:58 AM) Agreed. It surely helps to have te screen in front of you in a nice angle as u drive so u can glance at it once a while. Will try the charging while using again and see if really got help or not. Was using ios3 last time and once the phone heated up, it stopped charging. I wonder if ios4 will be the same or not. Will report my findings after I give it a go today. |

QUOTE(boblp @ Aug 26 2010, 03:55 PM) got update already?.. gonna check em up.. hehe A-GPS is a function and you can call it a hardware as well because there is embedded A-GPS/GPS chip combo in iPhone. about going through tunnel.. is it the iphone or the apps using the a-gps system.. meaning the a-gps is a hardware or software feature? becoz if your going into a tunnel, it will utilise the a-gps signal.. where they triangulate you from the cell tower.. Problem is, when I joined this forum, a lot of forumer call me a bluff when I say A-GPS doesn't charge you. Everyone said using Google maps for example will charge you for the map download only but no data charge whenever you use A-GPS. I have been using GPS/A-GPS on other phone for more than 3 years so I know how it works. But yet those that dissed me last time didn't even active on this thread. Now with iOS4 it wil be much clearer. Try to off your cellular data on iOS4 and try to activate Google maps. It won't detect you at all. Try to do the same thing on PPG. Some people blatantly munch on the info on PPG's Appstore description, saying that PPG won't use A-GPS. Of course, it won't use for the whole routing. But it will use it for fast-locking, to determine the initial location only. Only then it will use the native GPS chipset. I guess this could be the problem of some forumer. They might not be taking data plan hence, off the cellular data or location services (presuming they are on iOS4 or JBed), and waiting for minutes for PPG to detect the location. With both on, chances are you'll be detected in less than 10 sec. Edited: Regarding the tunnel simulation, probably coverage isn't that good in SMART. My location in PPG stalled when I go deep further inside. Probably it only works with those much shorter tunnel This post has been edited by mmmbop: Aug 30 2010, 09:49 AM |

Anyone tried install any offline map, GPS navigator for use in Japan or Tokyo before?
I tried to look for free 1 but so far only can find paid version from app store. I don't mind pay some $ for that but just want to know which one is the best... |

Why is Papago 19.90 and TomTom 60.. Why is there such a huge gap in the price.
