for anyone useing 520/820 and paird with 3 way speaker (with 16cm cone),
will you set the front speaker at "speaker settings" to large? bcos i felt a bass a bit heavy and no longer need subwoofer...
unless i set subwoofer to "plus", the bass level from front speaker and subwoofer definitely deep...  sweat.gif

Large...for any other speaker except satellite type speaker...

(thats why I rarely switch on the subs)

It all depends on your expectation of your system. If you are satisfied with the bass coming from the front speakers alone and don't need the subwoofer, then set to 'Large'.

But even a good pair of front speakers are no match for a decent subwoofer when it comes to reproducing the low frequency sounds. And besides, the sub would be able to take over some of the power load of the amplifier for the bass requirements. For the best low frequency sounds, set to 'Small', even for large front speakers.

At the end of the day, it's your system, you have your reasons, and if you are happy how it sounds, nobody can say you are wrong.

yup... actually as i felt that set "small" for front speaker, at least the bass will be "under control" by subwoofer by adjusting the volume until my expectation... if set as "large", felt a bit like "boom boom box" from front speaker sweat.gif

as we know we cant adjust the bass & treble level by tuning at the amp, but i think it will effect other speakers' output quality as other speakers may lesser bass if i tuned the amp based on the "large" settings for front speaker...

depend on what type of audio you are listening to.....as for me, I dont switch on the sub if listening music.....but for movies, of course....you'll need the subs to really feel that the earth is shaking tongue.gif

I got the Pioneer Series 8 speaker system from a contest last year. This was something which I would not have thought of buying with my own money. I offered it for sale but nobody wanted to buy it either. So I 'have no choice' but to use it... tongue.gif

Anyway, just today I noticed that at the back of the speakers, there is a sticker with the KEF and Uni-Q logos next to the Pioneer logo!
It's strange that none of the reviews on the Internet has mentioned anything about KEF drivers being used on this Pioneer speaker series.
No complaints though, they sound great.

The pioneer reseller in sg also told me the same thing. Sone of their better speaker sets use the same drivers as KEF. They also had some decent speakers there but cost S$20k for a set. Problem with higher range speaker products nobody wants to pay top dollar for pioneer, so if u were thinking of selling them u will find it difficult unless u r willing to sell at a bargain.

if set the front speaker to "large", most of the bass will divert from subwoofer to front speaker... u still can heard the bass from subwoofer but only the lower Hz which cant no within the front speaker's woofer cone HZ range...

so you only can heard very minimum sound from subwoofer as no much voice used super low Hz unless u watching action movie... for normal music enjoyment i dont think u can heard any voice from subwoofer...

so if u set the subwoofer as "plus", the amp will deliver the same level of bass generated from subwoofer when front speaker set as "small"

Yes, I also think that the price is quite high for Pioneer speakers compared to the other more famous speaker manufacturers (I am not saying the product doesn't deserve that kind of price) - it's a matter of perception and reputation for a particular brand. I am pretty sure they can sell better if rebranded as TAD, their famous brother. I think they are from the same company?

Would like to ask some opinion from sifus here. Actually i'm quite new to sound system thingy, therefore hope some brother here can shed some lights. I am planning to get a home theater system and come across HTP-TSS51 at one of the electrical shop in kl. Main usage will be on movie and concert video.

Is this model a good buy and what is the current market price? The shop quote me rm2999. If i were to play blu ray disc from another player to the pioneer avr, will the sound quality drop? Apart from this model, any other recommendation that i can consider of (price within same range).

Sorry for newbie questions and thank you for your advise.

Is it with the 520 receiver? At Harvey Norman you can get it less than RM2600.

Sound quality is good for entry level...aesthetically good also....

HTP-TSS51 = VSX 520K + Infinity TSS500
normal price at Harvey Norman RM2699..but some could get it for RM2499.

for that RM2999 budget, you can get HTP-820SW = VSX 820K + S-ES3TB + S-RS3SW.

Only limited to USB connection. 820 doesn't have Ethernet so you can't use wireless connection via wifi.
